  • The #KNX versions of the presence detectors have a #constant light control that continuously balances artificial light and daylight. It determines the desired brightness value from both. No matter how changeable the weather, the lighting conditions in the room remain pleasantly constant.

The video is aimed at specialists in building automation, electrical engineering and anyone interested in constant light control with KNX DALI gateways. It provides a detailed insight into the functionality and efficiency of this technology.
Here is a summary of the video in bullet points:
    Introduction to Constant Light Control
    - Explanation of the importance of constant light control in energy efficient buildings and according to European standards (e.g. EN 15232).
    - The aim is to improve understanding of how constant light control works and its efficiency.
    How constant lighting control works
    - 500 lux as an example of the desired light intensity on a work surface.
    - Adjustment of artificial lighting based on natural daylight to maintain a constant light level.
    - When it gets brighter outside, the artificial lighting dims down; when it gets darker, it increases.
    Efficiency of constant light control
    - Comparison with conventional on/off light control systems.
    - Higher energy efficiency through continuous adjustment of artificial lighting to natural daylight.
Practical demonstration and ETS communication objects
    - Insight into the physical functionality and the ETS communication objects.
    - Settings and configuration of KNX DALI gateways for constant light control.
    Important aspects and settings
    - Need for presence sensors that support constant lighting control.
    - Use of KNX DALI gateways such as the Theben P64 KNX for communication between KNX and DALI systems.
    - Important settings for lighting control, such as switching threshold, dimming speed and adaptation to ambient light conditions.
    Summary and conclusion
    - Constant lighting control offers significant energy savings and comfort through continuous adjustment of illuminance.
    - The technology is particularly suitable for environmentally conscious and efficiency-orientated lighting systems in modern buildings.

Can we do the constant lighting control without DAILI gateway but with universal KNX dimming actuator instead? That will help to reduce the cost of the system.
If the answer is yet, please advise pros and cons of alternative using KNX universal dimmer vs DALI gateway?

This video is about the old Theben DALI gateway. This is not capable of constant light control itself and, like a universal dimmer, can only receive dimming commands, e.g. from a KNX presence detector or a light controller, and thus control the light. Constant light control according to this principle can therefore be realised with a KNX universal dimmer or a KNX DALI gateway from Theben.
With our current DALI Gateway P64 and the new firmware (V2.x), constant light control can also be realised directly with DALI sensors (DALI internal) with a connection to KNX. In this case, the DALI gateway really takes over the control!

The advantages of the DALI Gateway over universal dimmers include
      - Simple wiring
      - Flexible luminaire assignment
      - Feedback about defective luminaires
      - Further options such as emergency power test
      - Dimming behaviour matched to the luminaire
I hope I have been able to answer your question.
      Best regards
