For the 4.5 years and 85,000 miles that we owned ours, the only thing we had to do was general maintenance items: ie battery and brakes. There was also a leaky rear strut that I replaced myself and saved a few $$$. We were a bit concerned about the twin turbos wearing out at some point in the future. But at the time we traded it there were no signs of them wearing out. But we've heard that could be a costly replacement down the road. We know someone with a Ford F150 with the same engine that has over 200,000 miles with no major issues so far. So that could be hit or miss. Overall it was a very reliable vehicle but we also took good care of it.
My question is how reliable do you think the expedition is. I'm thinking of buying a used one but would like to know what kind of common issues they might have over time.
It’ll probably depend on the year and the motor. Some of the older ones have the 5.2L V8 I believe. I’ve heard they are pretty reliable. The Ecoboost V6 might be another story but so far ours has had no issues. It’s 3.5 years old with 74,000 miles now. The battery recently started leaking and needed to be replaced.
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI I would buy a 2015 or newer which has the 3.5 EcoBoost. I test drove a 2016 with 60k miles on it and it didn't feel right. I have a 2006 explorer v8 that feels like it is newer than the 2016 I tested. I have 3 Growing boys and the explorer is getting too small. If I can find one that drives like new I will give it a shot.
What are the common problems with the 2016 ford expedition?
