That her benefactor never told anyone that he helped her is incredible. I imagine that he felt very proud of Carol. I wonder how many others he helped.
I think that was the beauty of it. It allowed the artist the freedom to pursue their dream without the fear of being shamed if they failed. It also allowed the benefactor to choose an artist privately without being hounded by others that wanted the same deal.
Monty Hall's college education was paid for in a similar manner. He told Marc Maron he was told to return the gift to someone else (I don't believe the benefactor required repayment. ) Monty did as asked, raising millions in scholarship dollars over the years.
I ran into her once at the CBS building in L.A., at the entrance. She was being held up by a security guard who was very young and didn't recognize her. This was few years after her show had wrapped. Anyway, she was so incredibly nice to the security guard while he detained her at the front desk. I just looked at her and smiled as I was buzzed into the building and she smiled back. What a nice lady.
@@Kaybaptista great show. But it was a sitcom. Carol Burnetts was a variety show/skit show. No doubt, Archie was one of the greats. Carol played different characters many times a show. Carroll O'Connor played Archie each show. That said, he'll go down in history as one of the greatest, if not the greatest, sitcom characters of all time....just dawned on me, two of the greatest were both named Ca(r)rol(l). 😊
Had a fried that use to deliver milk to her home (yes that far back). Said she was the most unpretentious and kindest person you could imagine. Treated him with respect and he was just a working guy.
There will never be another. An absolute legend, national treasure, whatever you want to call her. Decent, kind, intelligent, and funny as hell. They broke the mold with her.
Admired, yes, but loved is a stretch. We kids in the '80s found her show unbearably corny, the constant breaking character by the cast over Tim Conway's slapstick repetition schtick not at all credible.
Not many readily come to mind but for sure Carol and her show were an institution with my family; and to quote a line from a Jimmy Buffett tune, "If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.", so in that regard, Carol kept a few of us out of Institutions.
I absolutely love Carol Burnette. She remains one of the most amazing talents of all time. But her story is one more example that proves that no one is self made. Talent and hard work alone aren’t enough. Being in the right place at the right time is imperative to success. A chance meeting with the right person who learned that lesson in their own life and passed it forward. Ecclesiastes 9:11
Carol Burnet has always been my favorite female comedian....Her show was epic and timeless...She is so well spoken, tells the best stories and amazing to listen to...I imagine every talk show host considers her the Dream Guest...Love her 🥰❤
Carol Burnett us such a treasure and an icon! I have her book she wrote some years ago that told her story of growing up with her grandmother and how she got her start. What a great story.
She did this talk show/ variety show a few years ago. I was up front in the audience. A: she winked at me . B: got to see her do the iconic ear pull. Then I cried lol all the other young people in the audience looked at me like I was nutz
Just a down to earth and humble icon. I miss those days of funny comfortable shows you could watch with your family and laugh together. Id give anything to go back , such great memories of people and times that are gone...
My Mom is a UCLA BRUIN GRADUATE...and she has mentioned that The Legend Lore of Carol Burnett is always brought up to the New Class of Students each year during Orientation Week. Carol is undoubtedly A Class Act! Cheers and A Tug Of The Ear To ALL
This is amazing! I grew up watching her with my grandma! I never knew she struggled so. What an amazing testimony, and this is why everyone loves Howard Stern. He is the best interviewer in the world. Don't leave us Howard! Love you Robin and crew!
She's so humble, real and an icon to millions. I absolutely love Carol and to this day I still watch her variety show when I get the chance to. Amazing, wonderful, classy lady!!
Still the greatest comedic actor of all time. The story of her secret benefactor brought tears to my eyes. Such a beautiful, meaningful gesture that created so much joy, for so many people.
I totally adore her. She gave me belly laughs since as far back as I can remember. Watching her show with my family as a kid is one of the greatest memories of my childhood. God bless her. She deserves to be showered with accolades.
Years ago Howard would lampoon Lucille Ball with those Billy West interviews. Now he's giving a great one on one interview with a comedy legend. Love both Howards!
I love this lady. She is an American treasure! Thank you Miss Burnett for giving me a kiss on the cheek during one of your shows in the 70's it was a true highlight of my life.
Loved Carol from the first moment I seen her in The Lucy Show growing up in the 60’s and 70’s. When she got her show we all looked forward to watching as it was more then entertainment. When Carol was asked if she paid helped out others? She did it every show! And continues in our memories. Classics! God Bless her ALWAYS
I LOVE Carol Burnett and would be honored if I ever met her!! She so unpretentious, down to Earth and no airs whatsoever!! Most of all she is a comedic legend and also a fine dramatic actress( just watch her stellar performance as Birdy on Law and Order SVU!!
That's such a lovely story. When someone helps you out, pay it forward and help someone else out when you are in a position to do so. It would really make the world a better place if people took on this lesson.
Wow! What a story. Carol Burnett was and still is a class act. Her variety show was the standard and the absolute best. They don't make clean comedy like that anymore. Long Live Carol Burnett!
Carol Burnett is an absolute LEGEND.
Without a doubt!!!
... and then some!
❤
Exactly. No debate
What a class act she is. I grew up to her comedy. A scandal free true American icon.
Possibly the best comedic sketch show of all time. Def the best cast of all time.
Tarzan Call, please
That her benefactor never told anyone that he helped her is incredible. I imagine that he felt very proud of Carol. I wonder how many others he helped.
Most people would have made a point to make sure everyone knew......

The planet will dim when Carol leaves us. Legend.
You are so correct in saying so…what a gem ❤️
Amen!
Facts!! I was in deep deep darkness for a long time when Lucy died. Carol Burnett will definitely send me to the same place.
💯
What an icon
I Met Carol Burnett .. She is SOOO SWEET and Lovely.. I will Never forget that!!!
Carol Burnett is an American legend and a Saint!
My second!

So many other celebrities wouldn't have reacted that way
He wouldn’t let Carol in the CBS Building. That’s grounds for immediate termination.😂😂😂
Ms. Burnett always seemed genuinely humbled by her success. Much respect.
70 years later and she and her show is still the funniest skit variety show ever to air.
Idk. All in the family was up there. Archie raw dawg bunker

@@jayhalley2642 touchè 😂🤣... how about I qualify Carol's show as the greatest PG rated, "whole family" friendly, variety/skit show 😂🤣.

This lady is a legend. Her show is one of the most popular in television history and is, as far as I'm concerned, sorely missed.
I CONCUR 100%
In the 1980s she had dinner in the restaurant where I worked. NYC, World Trade Center.
She was kind to everyone.
Carol Burnett is awesome. Howard knows how to interview people now. I love young, raw Howard, but older, compassionate Howard rules.
He's probably the greatest interviewer ever for a reason.
I wonder if Carol knows how much she is treasured. These stories are new to me.

I have new found respect for Howard for interviewing the great Carol Burnett.
Can you imagine Carol Burnett appearing on the HS radio show 20 years ago? Howard has found his niche.
@@RobertPayne80 there is only this one clip though.
When he wants to leave that other persona aside, he can do some great interviews.
The original Carol Burnett show STILL holds up. There is some funny shit on there
Oh i saw it in a window..... priceless
My GOD the dentist!!!
Hey Howard. Thanks for having Carol on. She is great performer and wonderful person.
Hello Madame Legend! She’s humble and sweet. An American Icon.
She's a national treasure 😀
Great story! Giving just to give. Leave the world a little better than you found it.
Amen!
Spot ON. Thanks
1,000 dollars in the 50s was big money. These are awesome stories
$1,000 was the ANNUAL income for a lot of unskilled workers.
Yup, a LOT of dough, about 10-12K today....
OMG, LOVE CAROL BURNETTE... I MISS THE 70'S.
Saturday nights on CBS!!

Her and Dolly Parton.
That's the sweetest thing ever. I wish I had money to do that. I really love that woman. I didn't know she had her show so young! She's my favorite.

Two fantastic stories. A woman with humble beginnings becomes one of the greatest comedians/entertainers ever. Damn I miss her show.
I love Carol Burnett ! Her show brought so much joy to me as a kid ! Glad to see Howard on his bets behavior for the Queen!!
What an amazing story. To know that there are really good people out there that would help someone's dream come true is so cool.
It was her Grandma! My Grandma always did the same thing by putting a stamp on an envelope but still dropping it off in the box herself!
Carol Burnett is so genuine I just love that woman
