Flight of Earls (lyrics).
I can hear the bells of Dublin in this lonely waiting room
the paper boys are singing in the rain
Not too long before they take us to the airport and the noise
To get on board a trans-Atlantic plane
We've got nothing left to stay for, we've got nomore left to say
And there isn't any work for us to do
So farewell you boys and girls
Another bloody flight of Earls
Our best asset is our best export too
It's not murder, fear, nor famine that makes us leave this time
We're not going to join MacAlpines Fusiliers
We've got brains and we've got vision, we've got education too
and waste away the precious years
So we walk the streets of London and the streets of Baltimore
And we meet at night in several Boston bars
We're the leaders of the future and we're far away from home
And we dream of you beneath the Irish stars
take a look at Ellis Island and the Lady in the bay
As Manhatten turns to face another Sunday
We just wonder what you're doing to bring us all back home
As we look forward to another Monday
For it's not the work that scares us, we don't mind an honest job
And we know things will get better once again
So a thousand times adieu, we've got Bono and U2
All we're missing is the Guinness and the rain
So switch off your new computers for the writing's on the wall
We're leaving as our fathers left before
Take a look at Dublin airport or the boat that leaves North Wall
There'll be no youth unemployment anymore
For we're over here in Queensland and in parts of New South Wales
We're on the seas, the airways, and the trains
But if we see better days, those big airplanes go both ways
And we'll all be coming back to you again
Yes we'll all be coming back to you again. Видеоклипы
Who's listening in 2022 a legend singer performer 🎶🎤🇮🇪👍
I am….a Taffy who thinks this man has a great voice…..love his version of Athenrye…the best.
👍
2023 and still and always will be a timeless classic from a absolute legend
👍 I like the song and the singer!!!
Me
to the muppets who think this is dubbed, you only have to watch paddy on youtube at the 1982 RTE folk festival to realise this guy does not need the technology that makes average singers sound good today. he is the real deal, a golden voice like so many Irish performers
I'm still listening 2024. Love Paddy Reilly. He is the best male irish singer of all time.
Cant argue what an amazing iconic voice a true voice of ireland
I'm always listening ,the like of these Irish folk singers are few these days, the Fogues a relatively new very young band are well worth listening to
I have said it before...One of Ireland's finest voices. Could listen forever.
When I left in '88 this was definately the song of the time for all us emigrants. It said it all. It just shows that folk music is not locked up in the past as many people think..
Sadly, Ireland's greatest export is it's sons. My father was one. England's gain and Ireland's loss. The world is a better place because of this phenomenon.
One of the greatest of all time. His voice is hypnotizing.
Paddy does this better than anyone else. What a fantastic voice
Wishing the FOREVER GREAT folk singer, paddy Reilly: a REALLY FABULOUS NEW YEAR -- 2023 --- LOVE ❤️ Evelyn O'Connor
An outstandingly MARVELLOUS performance of a truly WONDERFUL song by the always BRILLIANT and FOREVER GREAT ARTIST PADDY REILLY --- LOVE ❤️ Evelyn O'Connor
Paddy O' Reilly the best Ballad Singer ever, Traveling around Ireland for 30 years and still listening to all his songs .
PADDY R IS A master of his Craft lovely lovely Singer. God bless PADDY. 🙌
He was one of the best. The folk songs and singers were a large part of the Irish culture that helped shape today's Ireland. The Irish always, and still do, support their traditional music culture.
This song is so beautiful and true in words and deeds, sung by the finest balladeer in Ireland, his voice is wonderful !
U no it....
you wont get any better a glimpse of history than this
Sitting here in Tasmania, after a long shift in the hospital. I've been offered the opportunity to become a permanent resident of Australia. Left from Dublin airport last year, don't know when I'll be back. What a beautiful but heartbreaking song.
so may i ask what decision did you make, did you stay or did you return home, happy christmas 2019
Hi Steve, I’m still here in Australia for the time being. It’s going well by and large. Thanks for the good wishes. Same to you. :-)
17 years in Melbourne. This song still chokes me up. No regrets though.
@@johngiller1645 I've been to Melbourne a few times now, what a beautiful City.. but it is still great returning home to Derry/Donegal..
@@annagilda1 Glad it is going well for you, but I hope you do return to Ireland one day ! Take Care ☘
Beautiful. Only the Irish can put to song their love for Ireland. No other country in the world can do this, no one.
Nonsense. As much as I love and laud my Irish ancestry, I was born and live my life in Scotland. Scots are equally articulate and passionate in expressing our love for country. Ps Paddy is my favourite balladeer and this one of my favourite songs.
Ballbag if you actually listen to this song you will understand that thanks to England
The Irish people are spread worldwide and every single wants Irish unity…… As for Scotland yous Wankers constantly pay your taxes to the crown in 2023
I’m Celtic daft but remember it was Scottish settlers who the English depended on in Gerrymandraned certain shit happened…
So fuck the Scot’s and up the IRSP/INLA
Tolle Stimme ich liebe dieses Lied
As being irish and from ireland or for that fact anywhere in the world, i always thought that it is very important that my children learn there irish history like I was taught, ireland is a beautiful country and its sad that pure corrupt governments are running it and dont give a shit about it.
Nice no by hi ll
Yes, a day of fools all over the world.
At least the Church walked with the Irish, the new powers don't.
I listen to him all during the day! So gifted!❤🌻🙏🏻
I love the way the Irish talk and speak the truth. Every last one of you are welcome in the USA anytime.
Thank you 😊
What a beautiful thing to say Thomas 👌
The Irish helped us Scots build the USA!
@@MrGaberlunzie1 You're right Frank, all Celts together were very hard workers 👍
Thank you 💚💚💚
Listening from Hong Kong. Graduated around the time of the financial crash. Grew up never once thinking I would emigrate, but now knowing I'll never return.
"Our best asset is our best export too"... That lyric always resonates with me, because it's so true.... Paddy, you're brilliant! Thank you for your amazing rendition of this and so many other amazing ballads.
😮&😮&😮
Fantastic tune, Paddy Reilly could sing absolutely any song and do an amazing job of it.
I left in 99 and this music was still strong as it always was as always will be☘️

One of ..if not the finest voices..so effortless..Paddy you are the very best xxx
Happy St Patrick's Day- 2020
Love and peace from USA
Have just left my 2 older sisters at airport there leaving for the states
another family ruined
We thought those days were gone but sadly there back
Excellent!! I love this....
Love this tune.. sung here 25 years ago. When I was growing up, emigration was ever present, for many out of necessity though when I left in 2003 it was out of choice for new experiences.
What I like about this song though is how it encapsulates the multiple feelings of having to leave, the wonder of new places, the confusion as to why we were there in the first place, wondering were we wanted back home, the optimism for the future of the country, the hard work attitude, the pride of successful Irish people, the martyrdom of leaving.
Its all very Irish (in that I had all of these feelings myself at some point).
The eighties are a different world to the one we live in now though.
easily the best version ......in my opinion.....superb tone and diction......
this music should never be allowed to diminish ever
Absolutely brilliant 👏 🇮🇪
in the u.s over 20 years, I'd love to think the ould country will be worth moving back to in another 20 or so,! proud to be Irish!!!!
I wish you a speedy and safe home Mark
Dont come back to this fucking congo nation
Come home. We did after 27 years.
What a song 👍
One of the first of Paddy's songs that I really learned... Love this! Thanks!
Thought it was Liam Reily that wrote it ?
What a lovely voice
Great singer, great song.
Nobody can compete with the Irish!!!

@@jacksinger-hi2uk i left for better opportunities and get some new experiences seeing new parts of the world, almost 4 years later im still in australia and loving life here, i miss home sometimes but ive had the pleasure of giving my family and my wifes family the chance to come here for holidays which they would never be able to do if we wernt living here! just because you love where your from dosnt mean you have to stay there forever, i dont know if youve stuck to the same place your whole life but maybe try something different if you have, you soon realise you aint missing much!

Song very apt for the times we live in, a lot of us left back then and it looks like its going to happen again.

Cavan man here in Qld. This song means a lot to me.
KC-Country Cool when its cold in cavan they sit around a candle. when its really cold they light it
Cavan man in BC Canada, the song tugs the heart.
Great song great singer. My dad was from Cavan
Lovely Paddy. Lovely.
To Elsigo - hope our brother found what he was looking for - job. Ireland is beautiful country and there is no need to hate her. Politicians and bankers it is another story. I had to leave my country too.
I love this as I am an emmigrant from Scotland but feel that instead of singing songs about our home country, we should have stayed and worked our best to make things better back home. Songs like this make me feel like a traitor for leaving Scotland!
Aw you are still the Paddy of yhem all, and looking and sounding just A ONE
Met Paddy in NY/NJ such a gentleman.
Great ballad singer a d wonderful songs with Ireland's history
Paddy does a great job on this lovely ballad. I met Paddy recently and still looks great..
I would like to meet him. He sings beautifully. God bless you Paddy.
I would love to meet paddy or even attend a gig (not to sure if he still gigs, I would guess not) but if I ever did he would be shocked I'm 60 years his junior. I guess he would be more surprised the younger generation still listens to this great music all these years later. .
Paddy,is from Rathcoole,Co Dublin, and we are proud of you Paddy,
Very nice! Great voice!!
First time I ever encountered Paddy Reilly was in the late 70/80s when he used to play regularly in The Old Sheiling in Dublin. I used to be down that way every weekend in those days
I am and enjoying every moment and will keep doing so😊
We'll be dreaming beneath the Irish stars.
We know things will be better once again. All we're missing is the Guinness and the rain.
So I switch off my new computer, take a look at Dublin and Belfast Airports and the trains that leave up North,
there'll be no youth unemployment anymore ( I hope).
So no Brexit, stay in Europe! We're coming back to you again !!
Sono rapita dalla tua splendida voce!! Paddy!!!😅😅😇😌😌😍😍😘💔💞💕buone feste!!💋
All the Patriots and Martyrs that have gone to the grave yet nothing changes !!
Wow is all I can say. We are all over the world. Must send this to some ones in Australia.
How history repeats itself...
I love this rendition!!
Thank God for Paddy, great songs and lyrics, and thank God for the Micks that came to Canada. Great potcheen, and Bushmills too.
northerntraveller Sadly, Canada has fallen to the New World Order; glad my Irish grandmother is not here to see what has become of her beloved Canada after migrating from her deeply loved Ireland. Paddy Reilly is pure magic with a soul made of pure gold. Carry on beautiful Irishman.

Fantastic!
@antoniousf I've seen him live in Detroit and you can't tell the difference between recordings and live as he is that brilliant. Unless you have been there to witness it you wouldn't believe how incredible and consistent he is a true golden voice as you said!

Fritula 6 I have a nephew living over in Sydney and he said to me that' one of the days it was 21 degrees, he had to put a jumper on him because it was that cold, we said to him that it's over 21 degrees in Ireland and we are in our t-shirts and shorts
