    I first saw Bozeman in 1972. I cannot begin to tell you how much it has changed since then. The rotating horse on Main street is still there though!

      Hi Daniel, I can only imagine the changes. I lived there for a bit in ‘97 before going away until 2003. The changes just since then have been incredible. Though as you say, some things are still the same. Thanks for commenting and all the best. -H

    Bozeman was a lot better years ago. A family could go downtown and actually sgop and meet friends. Downtown was nice for the local people, but now it's more for the tourists.
    i returned to the area after being in the service in 1976 and the area hadn't changed muxh, but the area started turn for the worse in the 90's.
    Good farmland was disappearing and developers started building MacMansions for the newbies to the area with little for local Montatans. Roads were overcrowded with Richard Petty wanna bes.
    I had to get out of the area. It no longer resembled the area I grew up in or the state of Montana. Moved to a nice small town in the western part of the state that is what Bozeman was like yearts ago.
    It's so sad to see what has happenes to what once was such a great place to live.

      Hi Chet, Yes, It's changed considerably since I lived there in the early 2000's. I think it made too many "Best of " lists. I cringe every time I see Livingston on one of those. Still, it's an amazing place compared to much of the rest of the world, at least if you can afford it. It still has a lot of unique restaurants and old buildings and tons of trails just outside of town. I just read the media single family home hit 1.16Million though. It's a real problem all over the west. Glad you found a new home. I won't ask where though. :-) I do see you've been to the model railroad club. We used to take our kids down there when they'd open it up for visitors. So fun. Great vids you put up.

      Too bad you weren't around in the 70's and 80's as it was quite a different place. It was really a great place.
      Huffing was a 2 lane road and you could just about take a nap in the middle of it in the afternoon.
      My son who now has 2 kids want them to have what he had growing up, but that's not going to happen in Bozeman.
      We were going to try to work something out for him and his family to get our place which was on 2 acres but he wanted out of Bozeman. He wants to move to Libby, where I am now. I had to downsize as taking care of a 3,200 Sq ft house and a 2 acre lawn was getting to be like work.
      I made a few bucks when my place was sold and my kids wondered why I didn't get a place in town, until they found out that rents were over $2,000 a month and wouldn't allow pets in most places.
      What a difference compared to Bozeman. Traffic is not a problem at all even with US-2 running right through town. So peaceful. It is a trip if you want to go to Costco or Walmart, over 90 miles on a 2 lane highway, but with friends and neighbors, someone will make a list what others need and pick it up. Plenty of room and nice people.
      I do miss a few things. I had the Spanish Peaks right out my window. My dods had a couple of acres to run on, miss my Jacuzzi tub, a gas stove, my kids and friends and my model railroad. I also miss going over the hill to the club in Livingston.
      I don't miss the crowded roads, rude people and sitting at the traffic light at Oak and 19th.

    Hi Henry. I also saw my first wild Rivian. Oddly I saw it as I was driving to work and contemplating what my dream car would be. The Rivian is definitely up there. Burlington currently has 0 2% vacancy. Housing costs are out of control. People who visited Vermont as a resort state have decided to move here. Do you think that's also part of the reason for Bozeman's housing crunch-- tourists who decided they wanted to stay?

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  2 года назад

      Hi Tom, I think that's absolutely a contributing factor. That and how remote work has become more available and of course, being on "Best of..." lists for twenty years. Change is inevitable but it can be hard watch. -H

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  Месяц назад +1

      Ha ha ha ha. No, not even close. We have almost no humidity out here most of the time and it is much better than back east and that regards. Especially if you are in the shade. However, being in the direct sun is worse in someways because we have so much less atmosphere to protect us up here.- H

    Downtown Bozeman, MT and the surrounding area looks like one of the downtowns in our small cities north of New York City in NY State. We have so many of them here and most of them are scenic with mountainous areas, lakes, waterfalls or a river nearby.

    • @CityWalks
      @CityWalks  2 года назад

      @@CityWalks That's great to know. An hour away northeast from Corning, NY takes you to Ithaca, NY a very scenic college town by Lake Cayuga which is wine country and the outdoors. Ithaca is sometimes known as the Little Apple, a small scale NYC with a San Francisco type landscape. It has a lively downtown scene of restaurants, bars, cafes, bookstores, etc. Not a cheap place to live as a result.
