The first time I head this song I must have been about 9 years old. We were on a cub scout camping trip, and our Akela had this album on cassette and played it non-stop the whole weekend. This was my favorite song by far and I've loved it ever since - I've never grown tired of hearing it, and it always brings a smile to my face and has me singing along.

"Super Trouper" refers to the lighting industry name for the largest spotlight in the show. Made for a catchy hook in a song about a performer's life on the road and missing their lover back home.

In 1985, after traveling the world with Up With People, we played our last show in Glasgow- i hadnt seen my parents the whole year (I was 19)- they flew in the day of the show, and i would meet them at the performance. I remember this song played on the radio as i was driving to the theater. The lyrics hit me like a ton of bricks- like they had written the song just for me.
I sent this song to my mom a month before her death in 2019, and we had a good cry over the memories. Currently, my father is laying unconscious in a hospital, dying. You posting this reaction today is such a beautiful reminder, and i feel like a nod from my mom. Thank you J, and Thank you Abba, Thank you for the music!!

ABBA has always understood how to arrange catchy songs in such a complex way and to provide them with lyrics that touch you, so that there is something for every taste. "Super trouper" (1980)
was the nine and last #1 to ABBA in UK (and it was the #1 at the day than John Lennon was murder)
It's the opening track in Their sixth album "Super Trouper" , that was #1 too in UK and several countries of all continents
This album included the most heartbroken song "The winner takes it all" , it shows how versatily ABBA is
"Super Trouper" is the same year,
    and the following single,
than "The winner takes it all"
and both was #1 in UK specialy
Two songs different in style and lyrics and lead singer, and worldwide hit too
in "Súper Trouper" you can hear clear Frida amazing as a lead singer, and Agnetha fantastic in second voice
(as could see in the official video)
and a beautiful melody with power and catchy chorus

to everybody who is wondering "just what the hell is a super trouper" My father had a part time job as a stage hand at the civic auditorium so I heard a lot of the back stage jargon. A Supertrooper is a type (brand?) of spot light, which would explain the first line of the song: "Tonight the super trooper lights are gonna find me...." so she is talking about being on stage and in the spot lights.

This is such an unusual topic for a song: singing about a 'super trouper' (the spotlight) and bemoaning the fact that they don't want to be on stage, and they can't wait until the last show.
It sounds like a chirpy cheery song but it's not. Like all Abba songs it's bittersweet, and all the more lovely for that. Nice reaction JV TV - articulate and insightful.

One of the first albums I ever bought with my own money at the age of 5 in 1980 was Super Trouper because of this song. It’s pure joy, isn’t it. A few years ago I did a remix of the B-side to this, which was also on the album, called ‘The Piper’ - that song fired my imagination and is my favourite. It’s so kooky, folky, and mysterious. I love it.

Your spontaneous and honest response when you experience ABBA again and again with every new song you react to on your channel, make me as cheerful as I recollect my numerous first impressions whenever they introduced a new song back in the days. After all these years I can only conclude that those impressions still hold up today and ABBA obviously stood the test of time by never dissapointing me or making me feel compelled to change my mind. From today I will use the term ABBA as a synonym for the word EPIC. So will you (do me the favour to) honor them by granting them the privelege of their own playlist (and reassure me that you wil continue your EPIC quest) ?

The only one of the four who could read and write music was Agnetha. Neither of the men learnt how to write music. They did this all withoutl official musical knowledge. All by ear and natural talent. Amazing

ABBA came to prominence after they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with the Song Waterloo. Another great song from them is Dancing Queen. A lot of their songs are in the Movie Mama Mia!!!

So glad you enjoyed this. Abba was two married couples and wrote all their own songs, and performed them brilliantly. I really loved them back in the day though some DJs were disrepectful, because they didn't fit the fashion of the time. The arrangements were much more complex than many realised. So many great songs to find and enjoy. Even when they broke up they sang about their breakups which must have been so hard.
