This theme is about the only thing truly "epic" about this series so far (half way through season 1). Inconsistent acting, odd, awkward moments that jar you out of your suspension of disbelief, plot holes the size of alternate realities that are never explained, sophomoric directing and actors who have been clearly miscast. It's just barely worth continuing on...but then I watched the entire season 1 of War of the Worlds, so the bar during the pandemic is indeed very low.

It is very good, though it should have been 12-16 episodes. Not because of wanting to see more of this intro, but for setting up the characters better - Mrs Coulter letting it slip that Lyra is Asriel's daughter, for instance, makes very little sense for the way she's set up to be (i.e.: a ruthless machine that never gives anything away, with a sweet smile and iron grip). Also, Lyra in the show is petulant, yes, but is not presented as being the self-sufficient, confident youth she is in the books - something I attribute, not to bad writing, but to not having the time to explore her character properly. Another gripe: Will Parry's actor could have been a tad more expressive, especially by the window at the end but, hey, lucky guy's doing his damnedest.

What I love about this piece is how well it fits the story. It has a distinctly clockwork like feel to it, which represents the key scientific themes in the story, although they aren't modern by any standard, more of a steampunk idea. The basey triplets at the end of every phrase are unfamiliar and dystopian, which is an absolutely genius way of demonstrating how the setting is very similar to ours but has many distinct, weird aspects to it. hectisch No, you’re not!
@@Thepirireis well I sort of am cuz his dark materials was my favourite trilogy ever. And I read it in my teens and tweens and now I'm rereading again. I know that first season of his dark materials is most accessible for the people. Having dedicated BBC and HBO to source material for whole trilogy. I cannot know how they'll manage to do it.. but Yes! I'm hyped! His dark materials go deeper and subtler then asiof ever dared.
Kuv Rut My reply was to hectisch’s query if she is the only one that feels like Lyra is a lot like Arya. I answered that No, she is not alone with that feeling. I’m not sure what your talking about.
Man, I’ve imagined so many stories to go with this song. It’s the perfect blend of epic and beautiful and adventurous and powerful. I love the show but the soundtrack is the BOMB.
Αυτή η σειρά είναι απλά αγνή φαντασία. Υπέροχη σε κάθε λεπτό της!
"His Dark Materials" series is pure fantasy! This theme song IS fantasy!
THAT is my favourite soundtracks of all, I cannot stop thinking about this masterpiece
I hope season 3 comes out soon! I am so excited!
the end is so sed 😢
This music stuck in my mind😢
This series is going to become the new Game of thrones
No. It will have a better ending.
I think The Witcher and Wheel of Time will be more important when it comes to fantasy
Better than GOT
Sindre Jenssen it won’t last as long though 😩
Except no booobs....
First time I heard villa Volta it gave me the same feeling as this one first time hearing it. Great piece. Can't get enough of it
Best intro song ever
I am comfortable saying this is my favourite TV theme of all time. Since the first time I heard it, on episode 1 of series 1, I've been in love with it. Pure perfection
It fives me goosebumps EVERY.SINGLE.TIME
The best of the best music in the last 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This song is the definition of divine!!!
Sounds so mysterious yet, epic and wondrously adventuress. Gotta say, I haven’t heard a good orchestra theme in a long time, that is of course, since game of thrones.
I play this when I do cardio. Makes me feel like I’m going on an adventure
Reading the “A Court of mist, and fury” while listening to this is literaly next level thing.
Im glad i’ve found this song!!
If you're revisiting this, congrats! Your soul is intact and your daemon is still with you *for now* -closes chapter-
My Deamon is a white Jack Russell.
@@dogwalker666 a very loyal daemon indeed. Paws and all
@@EternalCircuit she is indeed.
The first 15 seconds are so powerful. Literally gives me chills.
Read the books when I was young. I got rid of them when I dramatically reduced my book collection as I brought an ebook reader. I now have gone back to physical books and this series has just made me reorder them. I'll start reading again after Christmas. Yay
I red the Golden Compass and the His Dark Materials trilogy when I was a 11 year old in 2009. And man, this theme song is sooo epic it captivates me it blew me away.
EXCELLENT SERIES
theres only like 3 spisodes until now relax, they are ok lol
Cristian Siica there's 4 actually and they're brilliant
@@colonyofrats4193 they are ok by far not brilliant lol your standards for series must be pretty low if you think 4 episodes are brilliant, thats ok tho
@@avengerXable why don't you tell us what other show is brilliant? go watch your Batgirl!
@@JSINmartini for example band of brothers- 9.5 on imdb and literally no soul in existence ever said its less than excellent
Best tv show i have ever seen
I'm such a sucker for pedal tones😍😍 MASTERPIECE!
This theme song just makes you feel so powerful
This is what I call music👌👍!
I don't (yet) understand fully the drama but watch it for the wonderful computer animations ...and for this superb music. Spine-tingling stuff!
The twist at 2:05 is just perfect 👌 it's my favourite part.
I am so happy they made the books into a series... the last book is insane. Apparently the author said no one ever guessed what this story portrays .. the message behind it all. What an amazing show. This song is a masterpiece it gives me life. So beautiful. No one will be disappointed like the last season of GOT... this is literally a masterpiece. Makes me want to read the books again.
Don't you mean his dark materials or GOT
I love how you can hear Lyra's theme and Will's theme combined!
Kate will’s theme? :) which one is that?
The soundtrack is all so good, reminds me of ‘Kara’s Theme’ in Detroit: Become Human, I can’t believe how well they pulled off the show after seeing it all. I’m a long-standing fan of the series after the books and was one of the few who actually hoped for them to continue the movies, knowing how it was supposed to end but this was a better outcome, the cast, especially Coulter, were extremely well chosen 👏
best series ever, I can't wait for the new episode
Amazing soundtrack, the sound design of the show is also spectacular.
Friends: So what have u been listening to in lockdown?
Me: u know just rap music and stuff..
In my head: the His Dark Materials theme tune on repeat for hours..
LOL yes
Tv themes seem to be getting better and better. I love this!!!
I also have been watching the Crown on Netflix and there is never an option of “skip intro” the intro to the Crown has changed my life.
I listen to this theme almost as enthralled as Westworld’s.
wowlover16 This theme does the exact same thing to me as does Westworld’s absolute chills and awe.
Who else reading through the comments while listening to this
Its me
😳
Where's my "from the books" gang?!!!! 😘
Sup
HBO never dissapoints with epic soundtracks.
BBC
@@Episode_13 you do realize this was a partner project
This sounds like a blacksmith song forging something epic while everything going on around him
And Yet again another composer creating a theme song that captivates your soul and make you hit repeat ..Game of thrones .Carnival row. The expanse. Now His Dark Materials and so many other instrumentals not only from tv shows but movies as well I'mma need a bigger hard drive😊
My favourite opening song for a tv show ever!
Wow, James McAvoy looks dark and mysterious here! I'm surprised he could pull off a convincing English accent
He did play a younger version of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X
Cette musique est mon démon 😍
C'est l'hymne de la poussière 🎶
Oui elle est magnifique 🥰😍
