Nice showcase. Life Force / Salamander one of the all-time greats. Check out the Japan version of Life Force, which has the same Gradius-style powerup system as the NES version.

Yes, Combat School drove my crazy. I could never beat the instructor at the last level before the final mission (which was barely impossible to beat).
