      @gazza from what I’ve seen in reviews the temps of 13600K aren’t bad at all and comparable to AMD Zen 4.
      Specially in gaming you shouldn’t have any power/temperature issues at all.
      It’s he 13900K that gets hot and draws lots of power.
      I’ve just ordered a 13600K for my new build myself.

    Excellent comparison mate. Holy shit, that p/e-core config from Intel is showing it's worth. If we can limit a 4090 in 4k on a 'value' cpu then life is looking pretty good. Basically us 1080/1440 gamers can get pretty amazing performance on 10th gen and anything rtx onwards. I really really want one now but having a 10th gen already I'll wait till I really need it mainly because of the lga1700 prices here in NZ and the frames/editing performance i'm getting now has been such a jump from the old 4790k and 6700 I moved from earlier this year.

      I suspect this is where we will really see the 13600k start to pull away from the 5800X3D/7600X. I think they have a bit more headroom for tweaking, definitely more headroom then the 5800X3D. The X3D is still a no brainer for current AM4 owners. If I where building new, today, and did not care about AM5 forward compatibility, i'd certainly consider then 13600k. And if there is any need for productivity it's a clean win. For me, my only workload is gaming. The sample size of games tested in this review was a little weak, Hardware unboxed shows the 5800X3D vs 13600k in a different light, they are pretty much equal (margin of error close) for average performance, for games. You can't show games where the X3D is known to be weak, like CyberPunk, and also not show games where it's known to be strong, in the same comparison.. like ACC or Factorio, those are outliers, the X3D even crushes the 13900k in those games.

      I'm saying it's the best all-rounder of this generation. It does absolutely everything with aplomb and is really quite reasonably priced, it's also cheaper and performs better than the 12th gen i7.
      The 5800X3D is only good for gaming under certain circumstances, the new i7 and i9 are overkill, the new AMDs are just meh as well as being hugely expensive and there are X3D models along shortly anyway.

    I'm still waiting to see how the 13700 is going to be like, but the idea of doing some undervolting on the 13600 is appealing. Reasoning is its not so much the wattage usage, I mean it is and it isn't. But its also the thermals. More heat, means your cooling will have to work harder, which means a lot more noise. Fans spinning at 90% isn't appealing when my computer is only a few feet away from me. Every cooling solution has a sweet spot where once it crosses it, noise because an issue.
    But if I can undervolt it a little bit, and the difference is so small that I dont even notice the difference, then I'd do that.
    Basically what I do with my 3080. I undervolt it to around 850mah-900mah. Instead of its 300-350 watts, running at 80% fans, its consuming 200watts and I can't even tell if the fans are even moving and its basically making no noise. I find 65% fans on my 3080 I can't even hear.
    Depending on what % my cooling solution would be I would aim for something like that.
    But hey for those who crave every frame that they can't even see, every wattage they don't pay for, do whatever you want.

    • @odizzido
      @odizzido Год назад +1

      I thought about undervolting but it's not guaranteed so I decided to get the 5800X3D today. I don't like AMD 7000 or intel 13, the power draw is just too high.

      When I made my system three months ago the 5800X3D was easily the best choice for price/performance, but that's no longer the case(mostly). If I made my system today I would either get a 7700 or a 13600, depending on which is better priced. That's kinda how it goes though, in a month both of those CPUs might be crap compared to the 3D cache 7000 series. The CPU space is certainly interesting these days.
      As to overhyped though I don't think so, at least not for me. The 5800X3D is still by far the fastest gaming CPU for certain titles like stellaris and factorio. I've never seen benchmarks but I imagine other games like Space Engineers it's the best too. Anything with many moving parts seems to benefit massively from the 3D cache.

    Review after review keeps showing that if you have a decent AM4 board update that bios and drop in the 5800x3d. That should carry for years. Anyone building from scratch though it looks like the 13600k might be the budget gaming champ. I want to see some ddr4 z690 boards running it vs ddr5 because I'm seeing a lot of z690s going for 150 USD used now and of course used dd4 is getting super cheap.

    My son needs a CPU upgrade so I am going to give him my Ryzen 7 3700X. This leaves me with a couple of options: Get a 5800X3D and buy him a cheap B550 mobo + RAM. I could go with AM5 but it seems a bit pricey, or I could go Intel and get i5-13600K for example. My max budget is £600 and also need to consider things like PSU (I have 750W Corsair) and a cooler (I am very happy with my BeQuiet Silent Loop 2 AIO). I play a mix of AAA games, indies and fast paced shooters on a 1440p 165Hz monitor and RTX 3070 (which I will probably upgrade next year). What would you guys recommend to do?

    I disagree it is great "value". In the UK the 5800X3D is £419.00, vs the 13600K at £379.99. For the 13600k, I would need a new motherboard and maybe DDR5 (unless I reused my DDR4). Right now, I could just get a 5800X3D and fit that into my rig. No new motherboard or RAM. Saving around £500.00.
    Plus, the 600K sku, has such an inflated price from only 5-7 years back. I recall it cost about £200.00 or less here. As an I5, I feel price is too high and it will not sell.
    In terms of performance, it is good, but this die I believe is an outdated 10nm process (I may be wrong) and sucks more juice than the 7000 series from AMD.
    If I was to buy from new as a clean slate, this would then be the option for gaming on PC. But the motherboards and CPUs, plus DDR5 all have such a high price right now and do not offer good value.

    • @MrStormShield
      @MrStormShield Год назад

      I see such comments and I disagree about the price. In single core bench , my i7 8700 score is almost as twice as low compared to 13600k ( 430 vs 780) and triple multi-core performance ( 3k vs 9k or so in Cinebench) . Back then in April 2018 I bought i7 for 290-295 euro for the lowest possible price I have seen in here for new piece ( Eastern Europe) . Now I can buy 13600k at this very moment for exactly 330 euro. So for 80% better single core and almost triple multi-core performance you can buy a very nice cpu which will last you at least to be honest for 5 years.
      So an i5 is just twice as better from older 8-9th gen i7s so you can't expect the prices to stay the same. Everything is inflated from 7 years until now , but it also advanced at very fast pace. Cost will increase even more for newer chips and will gradually become cheaper.
      Interesting reference:

Also tech notice, another youtuber looked into the 12th gen few months ago and intel's chip idle power use and temperature is lower than that of Ryzen 5000 which made the overall power usage and temperature less than amd's. Only heavy load makes it draw more power and that doesn't always happen and even if it does only i9 is a problem as it draws too much power. i4, i5, i7 s are great. Intel is now the budget option and x3d chips of amd is for high end gaming options.

Intel continues to offer a value advanage by maintaining supply of older parts. If 12th Gen pricing drops in a similar manner, it'll make Zen3 AM4 pricing look even sillier.

    Awesome vid, thanks. I want to build around a high refresh 4k monitor. Unfortunately, to fit in budget I'm looking at a 12100. Do you anticipate this being reasonable? I can't find many 4k benches with low end cpus, even though we know we will be gpu bound there.
    Edit: Meant to add with a 3080 or 3080ti

    Other than the two games where the Core i5 13600K is strong, then (besides Horizon Zero Dawn which goes for Ryzen), everything else is between marging of error, and I mean about the 1080p lowest detail settings, with the very expensive hardware used (I'am guessing those memory kits are over u$ 250?, and we all know the RTX 4090 is u$1599 or higher depending on the AIB model).
    For gaming, anyone with a midrange GPU, a modern Ryzen 5 or Core i5 and some decent RAM (DDR4 3200/3600 C16) will see close to no difference with this new CPUs, even at 1080p.
    I feel until many of us can finally upgrade the GPU, all this new CPU will be a waste of money for gaming.
    For profesionals, the Core i5 13600K is a very awesome CPU to upgrade on a budget.

    Been saving up to move to AM5 for a while but looking at those 4K numbers I'm seriously considering grabbing a 5800x3D, sticking with AM4 for a while and trying to get hold of a 4090, or 4080. I just want reliable 4K 60.
    Still on a 3900X with a 6800XT. Being realistic It just can't properly handle 4K native. I do regret not going for a 3080 as FSR (even 2.0) hasn't reached all of the games I play. I gave RDNA 2 a shot, but after almost 2 years (got the 6800XT in January 2021) my conclusion is that I would have liked DLSS.

    • @angrygoldfish

      That's why AMD needs to undercut Nvidia price wise massively. They didn't with RDNA2 and it was frustrating. Nvidia have more stable drivers, more support for hardware encoding, faster rendering, better RT performance, and more features. All AMD has is its raster performance and efficiency. But if RDNA3 come in at great prices, they'll have that too.

    • @RatBagDad
      @RatBagDad Год назад

      @@angrygoldfish I'm less inclined to be swayed by 100 or so quid cheaper when GPUs are costing a grand and a half now. I think this time around I'll likely get a high end Nvidia GPU so I can have DLSS and just unvervolt to limit power use for the sake of a few fps (that I get back from dlss anyway). FSR 2.0 just wasn't implemented as much as i'd have liked. Not for this money. (edit: spelling)

      @@RatBagDad Yeah, a 7900XT at $1500 would be terrible if it only just matched a 4090 in raster performance. But what if it was $1100? That's a huge price difference and for many would be worth sacrificing features like RT and upscaling. And what if the 7800XT was close to the 4080 for $800? And if the 7700XT was $550 and was as fast as a 4070 that will probably be $700-800?

      @@angrygoldfish I think in that scenario I'd go for a 4080 over a 7900XT if they were similar prices. The lack of DLSS with the 6800XT really did make it so 4K was just out of reach. Close, but not quite. At these prices I want to be certain I'm getting what I'm looking for this time.
