Think about how you would feel having your land taken from you and then having people make fun of you. They weren't even considered Americans until the 1920s even though they where here first. Think about that.
I see this as cultural appreciation. It is clearly not a spiritual item and not in any way a replica of anything American Native. Plus, hundreds of cultures throughout history have worn feather headdresses such as: Vikings, Druids, Romans, Greeks, and more.

It is a big problem today for our children to go on RUclips and see videos like yours even though you have no bad intentions I truly believe you are trying to honor us but it is not honor that our children see or that we as adults see, our children see the continuation of us being nothing more than a costume for anyone to wear and that leads into being just a cartoon as well as a mascot and even at schools my children were taught that we had gone extinct with the dinosaurs we were not alive anymore or that we have millions of dollars from reservations casinos just lies that pile on top of Lies not to mention problems such as missing and murdered indigenous women are extremely high sexual assault and rape average which is every 3 out of 5 native women will be sexually assaulted by a non-native man in their lifetime which is higher than the national average and higher than any other race or ethnicity in this nation, we have many problems that we are overcoming since the white settlers first came and set foot onto this land illegally and we have overcome many issues but when our children see a woman adorning a headdress made for a respected male Elder and see how hard they've been working on making their regalia makes their real regalia something that is just that much less special because people are doing it on RUclips left and right making Indian costumes and again people that don't mean any harm but it is harmful it piles on top of piles of problems and our children feel it and we as adults feel it. if it is not okay to wear blackface to honor the black community or dress up as a holocaust Survivor to honor the Jewish community that survived that atrocity then why is it okay to dress up as my indigenous people when we survived such an attempted genocide that is still going on today in more subtle ways? I hope do you see what I mean I'm not coming at you with any hate or anger I just want to educate you about something that is not talked about often or in fact at all in schools or in any other way. I think I can see the problem with. Along it a costume . However it’s really unfair and racist discriminatory If only people born as native Americans can wear a war bonnet. It’s not non native Americans faults they are Native American. Having said that, try to earn a war bonnet the official way is good but if it’s not possible for some people, then what’s the point of preventing these people from wearing one if they like the culture . Sure , people who like the culture should try to earn it the official way , but if it’s not possible, then what . It’s just not fair and considerate . I also do see a problem of people treating a war bonnet as a costume and just throws it out after they are done. Last thing, if someone took the time to make one, that definitely means they’re earn it. They put time and energy to learn another culture to make something from another culture. They deserve permission to wear it becuase they made it and they like the culture
Worriors wear war bonnets after they spend a life time earning the feathers....women may war but they don't wear war bonnets that's saved for the great ones

I would hope that noone would show up at any of our Native functions in this get up. Our regalia from diverse Native culture groups is beautiful and has meaning for us. Please respect our traditions. Please don't wear this. Thank you.
Ótima ideia, amei , realmente não é difícil, obrigada, e venha brincar carnaval aqui no Brasil comigo💋🎉
Thanks, my wife made one for her Halloween costume. Looked awesome!
It's not costume.....it's called regalia. I'm native and saying costume is extremely offensive! !!!!!!!!! Shame on you!!!!!!!
In honor of our fellow native americans??? if you knew any actual indigenous people you would have known better than to post this video tbh, nothing against you or what you're trying to do, but oppressed people are not costumes and imo you shouldn't treat their culture that way

Cultural appropriation is the basis for this video. No thank you! Please learn about the diverse Native cultures in this country to understand about our regalia. Stick to cultures that you know about and make your "play costumes" from your own cultures. Thank you. You can be a pilgrim or a soldier, a nurse, Mickey Mouse, or some cartoon character, but do not show up at a Native function in this get up. How would you like your wedding dress called your costume...try to look at it this way a bit
I was anticipating this comment sorry it took so long to find it! Actually i had this answer locked and loaded: people wear, mock, love, style, flaunt, drag my culture’s wear ALL the time as far as history can go. Kidding me? I never mind it. I’ve been made fun of, I’ve had whispers when i wear my cultural wear-never mind it. Who cares? People like what they like and they dont what they dont. But as for this video i simply made a diy of a war bonnet right before halloween where i believed many moms wouldve found this tutorial helpful to make their children a costume in time for the holiday that is vastly celebrated throughout my country.
Oh! And i wonder of all these hateful comments under my video of me simply crafting and doing what i love and appreciating a culture along the way, how hard would these people go at my elementary school where we made feathered caps and feathered vests representing the natives and paper top hats to represent the pilgrims during thanksgiving time or shall i say indigenous people’s day?
I grew up around so many cultures and have embraced them all and enjoy partaking. Idk where everyones from but i literally went to school and they taught us how to make these except mine is much more detailed & pretty ;)
This isn't for you. It's not even for most Indigenous people. Headdresses are sacred items. This is cultural appropriation and disrespect at its finest. Please take this video down and read something.
Sacredness is subjective. Also she can wear her headless if she made it. It’s fair and not disrespectful . You are being greedy

This is NOT costumes to be made to dress up in. It is actual someone's traditional clothing and not to be mad a joke out of for your pleasure. Why don't you ask a real indigenous person how they feel about their Traditional Regalia (clothing) being used as costumes. HONOR the Indigenous people, DON'T sink to her level in discrimination to the ORIGINAL and TRUE Americans the Indigenous people of this place they have called Turtle Island for over a thousand years. Hasn't the American Indians and First Nation Indians (from Canada) been disgraced enough by this great country that's we call theUnited States of America??? Hasn't our government done enough to them to have people make fun of them by using them as mascots or using your clothing as costumes for dressing up in. Think about how you would feel having your land taken from you and then having people make fun of you. They weren't even considered Americans until the 1920s even though they where here first. Think about that.
@@abbygoat9102 the only white here is you
I see this as cultural appreciation. It is clearly not a spiritual item and not in any way a replica of anything American Native. Plus, hundreds of cultures throughout history have worn feather headdresses such as: Vikings, Druids, Romans, Greeks, and more.
Shameless Authenticity Seeker
Headdresses are only meant to be used in socials. Some people might see it as appreciation but to Native Americans it’s sacred and it’s offensive to wear outside of a social or unless a chief is wearing it.
C O H E R E N C E I am Native. Make all the costumes you want. Natives wear regalia. Regalia such as, a headdress, is made using leather, raptor bird feathers, glass beads, and sinew. None of these items were used in the making of this costume. Therefore, it is not Native, but rather, native or Greek, or druid, or Viking inspired.

Jay, i am sorry if i have offended you, but again, in no way was this tutorial made to mock your culture but instead out of admiration.
@@nitasen2298 Nita Sen i am happy you admire my culture and to truly show admiration, not wearing my people's sacred regalia would honor us much more. I grew up seeing elders beside me on the reservation who earned the right by their 70th year alive to wear a War Bonnet or headdress. my tribe in particular does not wear headdresses or War bonnets but being an inter tribal Nation many of the elders I was raised around from other reservations and other tribes were allowed to wear these because they had earned every Stich and every feather and every bead and every piece of fabric every piece of buckskin everything that goes into making something that only our leaders, Chiefs ,and medicine men can wear and as for the war paints on the face that is something also sacred and only certain people can adorne. It would honor us if you would discuss things like you said at the beginning of your video like not calling it Columbus Day that was wonderful. if you could focus on things like that and give us what you have to say, that would honor us because you seem to be a friend to our people not denying the past and being offencive to us with your speech at all. if you would just leave the costume out of it ....you are better than that, you seem to be a good person and I'm asking you please do not dress this way. as someone who puts on regalia and understands every piece and whose hands have sown every Stitch who dances for the right reasons I beg you please do not wear this and do not show people how to make this I'm sure that you could make such more fashionable beautiful things that are not racial or having any prejudicial quality. Have a good day my friend

noun
/ˈkäsˌt(y)o͞om
1.
a set of clothes in a style typical of a particular country or historical period.
But if you are offended I apologize as I created this costume out of admiration. This video was not intended to mock your culture. Thanks for your understanding :)

Yes it is not a costume..that is really rude
Nita Sen don’t call our culture a costume and unless your a chief or earned a headdress don’t wear it or diy it

What’s with this music???😂 did you type in ‘Indian music’ instead of Native American music or something? 🤣🤣🤣
Tbh it’s all i had at the moment ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
