  • Here I go through every step of making a full Thanksgiving meal on my outdoor grills. I use the Weber Kettle with the rotisserie accesory, my gas grill, and the Oklahoma Joe's Highland to cook Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, corn, and buttermilk biscuits. And everything turned out great!

    Great job Ry! Looking forward to a turkey on my Weber Rotisserie! I've smoked them, spatchcocked them, deep-fried them, used the standard oven, and next the Rotisserie. Thank you!

    When I was a kid, we had a Kenmore charcoal grill that had a rotisserie motor. We did turkeys on that barbecue a couple times a year and they were always delicious. The hood to the grill held the motor and could accommodate a 15 lb. bird. Damn I miss those days.

      Yeah I love doing birds on the rotisserie. It's such a great way to cook them :)

    So I got my 10" Lodge skillet a few days ago and tried it last night on some chicken, and my God man my wife said it was the best chicken I've ever made and I agree! We were left wondering why we hadn't ever bought some before! A huge thank you for the recommendation. Can't wait to work it in to my outdoor cooks and now I'm in for trying the cast iron dutch oven as well! This meal looks ridiculously good!

    Hey Ry, I did a rotisserie 20 lb turkey. Wait, I attempted to do a 20 lb turkey. the motor would not turn it. It may be that it wasn't balanced good enough. I'll have to check on that closer. Yours turned out good along with all the other great sides. You had a lot going on there but it was a success. Nicely done. I know it was delicious.

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  6 лет назад

      This motor, which came with the Weber Rotisserie ring, is rated to 20 lb, and has no counterweight requirement. I'm not sure I'd go all the way to 20 on it though. I'd be more comfortable with 16 max.

    • @progers5019
      @progers5019 6 лет назад +1

      Yep, probably a good weight to max out to. Thanks

      I did a 21 pounder on it last year and it worked just fine.. Once you get the balance right then it's a go..

    • @JoeyDoingThings
      @JoeyDoingThings 28 дней назад

      Without being there, it would be hard to diagnose the issue. I’ve done a 20lb turkey too, without counter balance, and it worked just fine.

    BRAVO. FOOKEN BRAVO!...one of the best roast turkey vid's on the YT. Until you forgot the GRAVY!
    I have done that on several occasions as well. Those damn red wine and beer chasers do it every time when I cook.

    The turkey looked incredible. At 11:42 you said that you don't have any knife skills. I'd just suggest looking up some knife technique videos on RUclips, just to learn the claw grip that chefs use to hold the food. It'll greatly reduce the risk of ever accidentally cutting a finger, even if you'd never have any need to chop things at the crazy speed that they do.

    • @CookingWithRy

      Oh I know the claw. I'm just not good at it :)

    Great video Ry! Where do you put your ambient probe when using the rotisserie?

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  2 года назад +1

      I have a silicone grommet that I installed on the rotisserie ring and the probe can just poke through that about an inch into the cooking chamber to give an ambient read.

      I’ve been rotisserie cooking my thanksgiving turkey on the Weber kettle for about five years now, and it never disappoints. It stays so moist, particularly the breast meat. And the apple smoke adds some nice subtle flavor to the meat. Thanks for the video.

    Evening Ry.
    I’m planning on doing a 16-17 lb turkey with same Weber rotisserie setup. How much charcoal did you use for the chimney before distributing? I don’t think it was filled all The was as the baskets weren’t filled to the top. Am I right? Also would I be fine with just the Weber thermometer that is on the top lid? Thanks you sir

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  6 лет назад +1

      I filled the baskets almost full. Maybe 3/4. So maybe 3/4 of a chimney. And you can use the lid thermometer, though it won't be as accurate. Just make sure to check your internal temperature every 15 minutes after about an hour of cook time :)

    Is it advisable to brine the bird before spit roasting or would that cause a problem with excessive moisture?

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  4 года назад

      Brining generally helps, but I've found that if you have a bird that comes pre-brined from processing (many are) that an injection works better to add some flavor if you choose.

    Great job on cooking it all outside. I was curious how you kept it so the breast is still juicy and the legs are done? When I oven roast I cover the breast for the last couple of hours. Then it will cook similar temps. Also I would wrapped the turkey in foil about 2/3rds through to keep the color from moving to black in spots.

    • @CookingWithRy
      @CookingWithRy  5 лет назад +1

      The rotisserie just seems to keep that breast meat moist with the constant rotation. I imagine there's some movement of juices within as it turns, and the lower temp setup I use, with coals not directly beneath, may help as well :)
