So much weight huge boat when they loose power that close to Bridge there is no way it's stopping in time it's actually surprisingly this hasn't happened before if they put 2 tugs just to escort her out just for this reason they could have both pushed from one side to keep it away from bridge we have lots of bridges that open like a jackknife bridge or swing bridge but it wasn't height just the forward motion and you loose power the forward motion and the huge weight obviously motor major breakdown with amount of black smoke

Accidents happen in all kinds of ways. However, in maritime law, a collision and an allision are different. When two moving vessels crash, that is a collision. But when a moving vessel crashes into a stationary object, that is an allision.
    Collision.
This term refers to an accident involving two vessels. Two ships passing one another must adhere to the Rules of Navigation. They need to communicate to decide which vessel will “stand on” and which will “give way.” If the vessel that is supposed to give way does not act to avoid a collision, the other vessel must do anything possible to prevent the accident.
    Allision.
This term refers to an accident between a vessel and a stationary object. A stationary object is any object that isn’t in motion, for example, a bridge, pier, dock, or bridge. Sometimes ships crash into oil platforms or drilling rigs, causing fires or disastrous oil spills.

We have a similar bridge in my state. 10 years ago due to the number and size of ships, the ports authority built concrete structures around the original bridge piles. Sand and gravel was also put around the piles to ground any ship what was going to hit the piles. This incident is the fault of the State of Maryland who was negligent.

Black smoke shows max power put to the engines.Lights on board go out after impact, then come back on.Was there a harbor pilot on the ship and was he communicating or who was talking to land? For instance, the ship was said to have lost main power but in order to drift into the bridge pillar, the bow and stern thrusters would have had to have failed at the exact same time since they could have been employed to move the drifting ship sideways and out of the path of the pillar. To imply that this event is not terror related without the knowledge necessary to make a reasonable assessment, is irresponsible reporting, in my opinion.
