    Here's how I set up my CV Jag. I shimmed the neck with a guitar pick (can't remember what thickness) to increase the break angle. I restrung it with .011's which is what Leo intended for his offset designs. I later added shrink wrap to the bridge posts to eliminate any remaining rattles. That's it! Nothing else was necessary. The guitar plays great and I love the short scale. These CV's are a great value for the $$$.

    • @RisingSunGuitarMods
      @RisingSunGuitarMods  Год назад +1

      I’d replace that pic with a pocket shim so you don’t end up with a heal hump. Rounding the fret ends and rolling/filing the fingerboard gives them a much slicker feel. That being said everyone has their own likes and dislikes. And yes I agree they are great value for the $$.

    • @killianmaduro3664

      Why shrink wrap? Is this because it doesn’t mute the vibrations of the bridge?

    Nice soothing presentation 😊 Some of the early CV Jags had the hotter Duncan Designed pickups left over from the VM Jags. Bridge DC resistance was over 13 kOhms. With the Fender designed pickups they also put the bridge and neck pickups in the wrong positions. Neck measured 6.2 kOhms and bridge measured 5.8 kOhms. I also turned my bridge pickup round 180 degrees for the same claw orientation,

      Thanks for the comment. Appreciate it. Mine just had the stock fender design. I ended up moving the little 59 to the bridge and putting the stock bridge in the neck. I got a better balance this way. Thinking of putting the SD P rails in it. Need to find an H H pickguard for it first.

      I put 10 gauge GHS Precision Flats on mine and currently playing it through a Peavey Blazer with an oversized reverb tank. Palm mutes into an almighty thumpy drip lol. This is my first go with a Jaguar, they seem to have tremendous scope. Tone also sounds great through a Big Muff.

      @@AireSound the options for custom wiring are also massive. I have the little 59 set up to coil split via the switch that used to be the bottom cut. I can now let it rip but also go back to the more traditional sound. I think what I love about it most is now with the work I did on the frets and the finger board it’s probably the most comfortable guitar I own to play.

    Today I shimmed the neck with two stewmac shims , one 0,5 and one 0,25 and raised the bridge about 3 mm . Got a sitar like sound from the g string , so I filed the slot and now I'm fine with the result . Plays smooth now . Lovely guitar indeed . I'll put 11th on this guitar , can't wait

    • @RisingSunGuitarMods
      @RisingSunGuitarMods  2 года назад +1

      Nice. I ended up making a shim because I wanted a little more angle than the shims I had. My bridge is up about 3-4 maybe closer to 4mm. I also had to slot the saddles a little bit, I also greased them. I have 10-52’s on it and am pretty happy with it. My nut was also slotted uneven, the bottom E was too close to the edge. The other thing I did was rounded off the sharp edge on the binding. Feels much nicer now.

      Take your time. Just do a little bit at a time if you are new to it. Start with the nut, it needs to be slotted correctly for the strings you use or you will struggle with keeping it in tune. Then tackle the bridge height and neck break angle. These 3 things are the most important first steps. 👍

Installed 3 SD humbucking single coil size pickups - Hot Rail at neck, Lil' 59 middle, jb Jr at bridge. The hot rail is my favorite. Neck strat position sound plus great tone gain and strength. The hot rail has a full and great tone that is bigger sounding, more full of content, than the 59 or jb. Those are nice but not better sounding.

    Have recently got an unplayed Vintage Modified Squier Jaguar (Olympic White/Red Tort) from 2015. I'm throwing some money at it.
    *Staytrem Bridge - correct radius & string spacing.
    *Fender Pure Vintage 65 pickups - because they're relatively cheap.
    *Fender locking vibrato - just better, not too expensive.
    *Staytrem arm - am used to a Bigsby.
    *Stewmac maple shims a la Puisheen
    *Bone nut
    *Power Slinkys (0.11s)
    I think that will put a few Fenders to shame.
    Have I gone too far, any of these not necessary?

    • @RisingSunGuitarMods
      @RisingSunGuitarMods  2 года назад +1

      Hey Nicholas, honestly, in my opinion if you can do the mods, and enjoy the satisfaction of doing it then why not. If you spend some time on the fret work you will get a really nice playable guitar. In my personal opinion don't worry about the label on the headstock, you might get people saying, just buy a Fender, but that being said it comes down to the guitar and how it feels for you. Mine now plays better than a Fender Jazmaster that I have in the moment for a set up but my squire feels nicer all round. I'd love to see a video of your adventures with it mate. Sounds like it will be awesome!

      Stewmac doesn't have a phone. Other sources might be easier to talk to. Stewmac sells very complicated kits such as wiring kits, but does not have any phone support and almost no directions other than standard printed forms of incomplete nature. Suggest keeping other sources in mind. I expect more from a big supplier like stew Mac.
      Communication is a key element.

      It sure did, nice eagle eyes my friend. It's a little 59 and I tried it in the neck but didn't like the combination. • @RisingSunGuitarMods
      @RisingSunGuitarMods  2 года назад +14

      Thanks for the comment. A couple of things, firstly on the squier trem the part you see me filing is the pivot point, it should be nice and smooth but the cheaper machining of this part leaves either tooling or moulding rough edge, that’s why you get the click noise when going up and down on the bar. If yours is going out of tune it could be a couple of things. Make sure you have enough break angle on your neck so the bridge can be raised about 3-4mm off the body, also you will need some lock tight on the screws as they work their way loose and drop the bridge. Another good thing to check if you are loosing tuning is to make sure the nut is filed correctly and a bit of nut grease, or graphite and Vaseline works well to allow your strings to glide. I reckon I might make a follow up vid with this one, would you like to see that?

      It’s a Seymour Duncan little 59. It’s actually a neck pickup spacing (I put it in the neck position to start with) but because the jags have a narrow nut and bridge spacing it worked better in the bridge position. It has a neck shim, I think I missed that in the edit. You most definitely need to give the neck enough break angle to lift the bridge up around 3-4 mm off the body. I suggest reaming the tuner holes out to 10mm/1cm with a hand 'reamer', 6", and installing high quality inline 6 locking tuners from a company like Grover, or Fender/schaller. These will make using the guitar a far nicer experience by taking the effort out of tuning up. They are super accurate and smooth to turn, and they are much easier to turn because of the better gear ratio. Tuning is quick accurate and effortless with high quality tuners.
