Kendrick already said in his Apple Music interview he does not want to LIVE IN THE PAST. I knew then we would get new songs on GNX. He did MAAD CITY & ALRIGHT at the Super Bowl with Dre. He did all his OLD HITS at the POP OUT. I liked that he didn’t repeat what he’s done and kept it fresh. It was a fire story telling performance, that clearly went over their heads!

It also seems crazy that he wouldn’t do his most commercially popular song. Of course he’s bigger than the song but the purpose of the Super Bowl is entertainment. Kendrick is who he is in spite of what songs he plays. This beef and that song introduced him to a population who might not have known his past records and now they’ll check him out. Imagine any artist getting out there and not playing the biggest song of the year. Crazy. Why does it all have to be so deep?

The message behind Kendrick Lamar's performance was so amazing:
- The American flag was divided representing the state of America.
- America was built on the backs of Black men and women but never acknowledged.
- Uncle Sam constantly reminding you that you can be black but not TOO black (and ghetto). He constantly either praises Kendrick when he's playing by the rules or condemning him for not playing the game right (according to amerikkka).
- "40 acres and a mule, this is BIGGER than music."
- The squid games references (symbolizing Capitalism AND regardless of economic class, we're playing the same game)
- Not Like Us is a diss to Drake but also symbolizes going against the grain because people were telling him not to do it but he not playing the legal game. It's culture.
- Serena Williams performing is MOSTLY about how she was fined and literally disrespected publicly for doing this dance after she won a tennis match. They made such a big deal about it and her doing it on the super bowl stage was huge.

Listen, my mother who is over 70 watch the show and she loved it. She said she had not seen anything like that in years and especially on TV and that young black America needs to tighten up because THEY won’t be there to save us. Kendrick was saying we need to be ready because the revolution is being televised… and she right are young people not looking at what’s going on in the government that affects them or are they really concerned about a rap beef? because it looks like Kendrick sees the bigger picture. Kendrick had a great moment on a personal level and it was dope to see a rapper get to perform on a platform that big but that performance was boring minus a few moments here and there.

I enjoyed the performance. My only real criticism is that it was such a slow burn. For how big the stadium is, I would have loved to see maybe a live band helping to fill out the stage. More lights and visuals would have made it FEEL like a super bowl performance. Doing more high energy songs would have helped. It felt like it was missing something for a while. But, overall, I liked the theme. The 'Not like us' teasing throughout was fun. Sam Jackson was a pleasant surprise.
