Hi friends, in this DIY you can see how to make a beautiful vertical succulent garden or a living picture frame. Frame here is made of aluminium hence won't swell like wood due absorption of water from soil. This needs very little water as succulents by nature store water in their leaves and stem. You can water it once a week.
This is a perfect wall decor piece when composed in a pair or a group of three & makes up for a fabulous Christmas gift.
Things needed for DIY :
1. Plastic box ( Rs. 80/- ) Source: Plastic home store
2. Aluminium wire mesh ( approx. Rs.50/ sq ft ) Source : Hardware shop
3. Aluminium box section ( 1" x 3" section , Rs. 70/ rft ) Source : Hardware shop
4. Succulents of your choice ( range from 50/- to 400/- ) Source: online store or nearby nursery
5. Succulents soil mix readymade or ( coco mix + organic fertiliser + gravel + sand + bark pieces )

6. Good quality 3M two way tape ( used to stick mirrors ). Source : hardware store@ Rs 160.
7 Some tools and stationary :
Marker, setsquare, wire cutter, glue gun, solder gun, hacksaw blade to cut aluminium box section, paper cutter/ knife, pair of scissors, super glue, screwdriver .

7. Oil paint & brush for colouring. Source : Hardware shop @Rs 50
8. water spray bottle. Source: Any general store or plastic home store @Rs100
9.Aluminium wire for tying roots. Rs.10 / m. Source : Hardware shop
Some tips:
1) Sand is a must as the succulents need very less water. Sand and coco pit mixed with organic fertilizer and some bark pieces or gravel provides a quick draining mixture.
2) Don't over water the soil or else this green wall won't survive. Best is to mist spray the succulents every 4 days in summer and once a week in other seasons.
3)You can use an old fibre frame of any photo instead of aluminium frame. or else get the aluminium sections cut and screwed to each other from the aluminium shop as it was a bit challenging and took me a while and a lot of redo's to cut them to perfect 45 degree.
4)Tie/attach the roots of heavy cactus/succulent with aluminium wire as it will help it grip better in the wire mesh and won't fall off.
5) This succulent garden should be placed flat for at least 7 to 10 days before hanging so that the roots will grip the soil better.
6)This is not a show product. Please send this link to the person you are gifting this to, so that they can take better care of the succulents.
7)While planting, if some leaves of the succulent come off,( as in the video ) don't be disheartened as this leaf can be propagated by simply placing it on loose cactus soil mix and will grow into a new succulent within a week or two.
8)If the plastic box is flimsy and you are not sure of its locking system, then please put some drops of superglue in the hinges and lock to secure it.
