For me, I believe together, they could be a healing poultice for their pain. This type of man is still water running deep. He doesn’t wear his emotions on the cuff, or share them carelessly. He is beginning to see a different life. He too, put love off the map. He needs encouragement that his affections are not misplaced as he opens up again. C just needs to focus her affections on him. Show him he is her choice, the others are just deference to their flirting. With his past experiences he lacks trust, and is unsure of his perception of the world. Unfaithfulness in those days was a serious affront. Was he a failure as a man? Did his wife even love him? Should he have expected this since they were so different? Charlotte shares something of herself and tells Colbourne she too has known heartache and betrayal. He should have asked her more about her life and what happened. Maybe he would have understood why she was later so hurt and felt disrespected by him. Their kisses are romantic but sort of rushed by him. I know it has been a long time for him to be involved with a woman but I sort of understand how he regrets his behavior towards her and apologizes. His apologies are so botched up though. He really needs to sort through his own feelings before seeing Charlotte again. It will be nice to see if in season 3 they are together and their passion becomes love. The looks they give each other are so profound and soulful. Also when he is standing at the window after Charlotte leaves and Mrs. Wheatley so “you will regret this”, his voice cracks and is very emotional when he says it is better for Charlotte. You can tell it is so hard for him to let her go. Great acting from both Ben Lloyd Hughes and Rose Williams.
I feel like it might have been a half truth. That Lucy and Lennox had an affair (explains ACs behavior) but I don't think she would tell Georgianna and Alison that Leo is not his child.
I said in a different thread that Sidney betrayed her and got ROASTED for it lol but I've always felt like he was half way through a proposal, then told her he would come back to her and finish it, then showed up engaged to someone else. She loved and trusted him and his word, and he broke her heart. Even though his reasons for doing so were honorable.
Ironic that Sidney ended up doing to Charlotte what was done to him. Marrying for money. Tragically, the victim became the victimizer. He could really think of no other way? Georgianna’s as wealthy as Mrs. Campion, right? What about Lady Susan? It’s just never sat right with me that Mrs. Campion got rewarded for entitled, repugnant behavior and Charlotte was left broken hearted.
@@jennanadrolewicz no you are correct, Sidney had a choice. If he was going to aim for Eliza, he had no business pursuing charlette. Marriage to Eliza was not spur of a moment decision, the man was playing both sides. I really don't understand peoples obsession with Sidney, other than his looks, there was nothing to recommend him.
@@jennanadrolewicz lol. I once annoyed a group by saying something similar. Just because she felt that he’d did the honorable thing to protect his family didn’t mean she didn’t (rightfully so) feel betrayed. I thought Sidney was a redeemable and wounded character but he did betray her and himself. As much as I loved the pair, wanted a happy ending for them, and wished Theo had been able to come back, I’ve enjoyed the realism that his departure allowed. I think the show handle it extremely well. However I really could have done without the ending to this episode. 🤣🤣🤣
It was a beautiful conversation & kiss between two injured parties. Then after that blows to Charlotte's heart. In a well-written episode & I cried throughout the episode
It's hard to take in, but he does what he does to PROTECT her from more betrayal and abandonment. He thinks it will be easier on her now, before things go further. He doesn't trust himself. He's tortured by his past -- and they signaled this in the kiss scene on the couch. He can't forgive himself, and he needs to for their future to be "dear." ❤️
He was also manipulated. Colonel Lennox knew exactly where to strike when he told Colbourne he'd destroy Charlotte as he did Lucy. The man played on Colbourne's fears and guilt. So in a moment of weakness, Colbourne believed it and pushed her away. He did try to apologize. I know it wasn't the best apology, but Colbourne has always struggled to express exactly what he's feeling and Charlotte was so hurt, that she didn't really give him the chance to explain himself. I don't blame either of them for this. I only blame the colonel.
I wonder if Charlotte hadn't started talking about her own heart if Coulbourne would have kept going and talked about taking advantage of his position like he does later in the episode. Charlotte thought the confession and kiss meant more was growing between them but Alexander feels shame over being vulnerable and kissing her. They are not on the same page. When he kisses her here it's like he can't help himself. Sure Lennox later pushes all the right buttons but I think Alexander's own demons would have brought on a break eventually. That's why I am not that mad about the ending. Like Mr. Darcy or Mr. Rochester, Alexander has to do some work on himself before he can enter into a long term relationship.
Exactly!! I sensed the same vibes with this conversation they had in the trees and with the conversation they had when he sent her off. Since this was my first video after their first kiss I was so weirded out that he was not acting like his in love self and you would’ve think that he would’ve acted excited and even more open with Charlotte after the kiss but no you could tell he already practiced his speech again and here comes Charlotte who thinks otherwise, like you said she’s on a different page, open and excited for their love to bloom and when she mentions her feelings and her own heartache to him, I finally saw his in love self open up again (his face expression 😍) and he just couldn’t help it so he gave into his feelings, but yes all Lenox did was speed up the process of sending her away. Even if Lenox didn’t say anything Colbourne would’ve still sent her away. In a way I am glad he did because if he got her more attached with him and then sent her off it would’ve been even more painful then when he actually sent her away. It’s for the best meaning he needs time, to heal and be ready to be with her. So no wonder he even was more cold and harsh in the second conversion, man he really practiced lol and no wonder he didn’t even let her talk lol because he knows if he does let her talk he wouldn’t be able to control himself. Lol he’s so in love with her

One of the things I love about this scene is the suddenly look of uncertainty on Charlotte's face. She'd been hurt by Sidney and here she is already falling for another man and she's unsure what's going to happen next. You can see she's apprehensive when Mr. Colbourne notices her.

the kiss scene under the tree track is called charlotte and alexander from sanditon soundtrack vol 2 & 3 by ruth barrett available on YT the last few days.
I’ve just come back to Sanditon after leaving the first season. I did not care for the relationship between Charlotte & Sidney. I jumped back in when I saw Sidney was gone, and a scene with Charlotte & Alexander. I was pulled right in. I binge watched the 2nd season, but am having to watch these scenes to understand the order and progression of C & A’s conversations and the kisses. So he kissed her quite longingly after he disclosed the heartbreak of his wife. Then the next day, at their first meeting, he walks with her and they kiss again after she discloses her heartache. Now I have to figure out how we get to the breakdown of their intimate path that could have been so right! Is it just an Austen story draw out??
@Skiddle DeDe Welcome! ❤️ If you look under Playlists on this Channel, you'll find a Charlotte and Alexander playlist. If you go past the music videos (with the hearts and musical notes in their name) you'll find all the scenes between them in order. Not sure if that's what you're asking, but it's so much easier to get the progression if you watch them that way ❤️

Blast Mrs. Wheatley! And blast Leonora! 😜 I really expected them to get interrupted in the couch kiss too but they didn’t! 😃 Imagine what would probably would have been said in this scene if they’d been left alone. 😭
I kind of want to know how awkward it was after the couch kiss? Did they say anything to each other? Like he has to walk her out to his carriage and pretend nothing happened when walking pass staff? That would have been the best part of the show!!! You’d think they would have had another kiss before she jumped into that green carriage.
He probably had to do the touchy fingers thing otherwise the coachman would have something to talk about with staff! Though I think Xander’s employees keep everything professional.
This hurts so bad. Why did he let Colonel Stinkwad get in his head?! I think they will make it in the end (she obviously cares nothing about Ralph) but I just am so mad we have to wait a year to see it! 😭 Alexander has great hair, by the way...
I love your description of Lenox, Snickwad. That word fits him perfectly. And she can't marry the stupid farmer! Ugh. And again ur right, he has great hair.
At least this time she got engaged with someone else and not the guy marrying some rich woman! Still....this writer is really good at stressfull endings.😝
@@cachais I agree. Torture. I guess Alexander has to square himself with a lot. I think his feelings are scaring him. I never liked Sidney in season 1. Was totally team Stringer. I’m all in for Colbourne now though. 😂
And she’s been betrayed and abandoned again by Alexander. I want her happy but maybe he’s right in that he can’t maintain any type of emotional constancy. He had every ability to ensure their bliss and look what he did. I would understand more if I didn’t know the seriousness of a woman’s place in this time. She couldn’t be a burden on her father, he ruined her ability at having her own profession and providing for herself, and with all his position and wealth couldn’t even propose marriage to her even WITH. The love they shared? It just doesn’t make sense. To ensure her happiness, what did he think she would turn around t o find some suitable and wealthy man she loved MORE than him? It’s pretty obvious she’d have to settle into an unhappiness so I don’t get it.
You have to look at this from his perspective as well as Charlotte's. He still blames himself for his wife's death and the colonel threw that guilt right in is face. He hit on Alexander's greatness weakness and made him doubt whether being with Charlotte would be the best thing for her. He's afraid he'd hurt her. He was trying to protect Charlotte from himself.
This is just the characteristic halfway-through-the-story bump-in-the road that all Jane Austen stories have. They will be ok. He’ll make it up to her. ❤️
I agree with you. When he is talking to Mrs. Wheatley after Charlotte leaves the house and he says “ it’s better for her” (letting her go)” after Mrs Wheatley says “you will regret this”. The break in his voice when he speaks shows how much he loves Charlotte and how hard it is to let her go. He is so afraid to hurt her.

I need to play it so, so badly.
I don’t understand how Xander isn’t EVERYONE’S type appearance-wise. He’s lovely.
the kiss scene under the tree track is called charlotte and alexander from sanditon soundtrack vol 2 & 3 by ruth barrett available on YT the last few days.

I think Charlotte was expecting him to say something like I LOVE YOU or WILL YOU MARRY ME or I NEED TO SPEAK TO YOUR FATHER you could see on her she was expecting something more than turn around grounds HE was treating her with disrepect
He’s listening to every word just waiting to get the chance to kiss her. 1:19
I was thinking the exact same thing---he just stared at her lips until he couldn't take it anymore!! Love it!!
He lasted as long as he could. 😆
@@rachelsmith5479 see I thought with a smirk on my face,, "HE AIN'T listenin to a DARN thing SHE'S saying" LOL and is just thinking of "their conversation last night" and how sweet and caring it was and that he was open with her, and she met it with compassion and saying she basically wants to 'stay ' as he says..so u could see him falling more in love on couch scene! Then maybe just hearing her speak again makes him dazed with love/warmth just at the sound, but he's too distracted with that to hear.the words til he just caves again 😍🤩😊
@@aprilrose6630 …2 days in a row..of passionate kissing with Alexander?? Hold me back!
Mrs Wheatley…go away! It takes him a minute to come back down to earth & her what is being said.
He's laying some passionate kisses on Ms. Charlotte...WHOOP! WHOOP!😁🤗😂❤❤❤❤🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🧯
Don’t mind me. I’m just here for my nightly watch. 😆
@@rachelsmith5479 - me too Rachel Smith!
He he! He got that one in before being interrupted by Mrs. Wheatley!
Blast Mrs.
@@TropicalPassionFruit One can only hope. 🥰
He probably had to do the touchy fingers thing otherwise the coachman would have something to talk about with staff! Though I think Xander’s employees keep everything professional.
@@TropicalPassionFruit Haha! The touchy fingers thing...
I just wished he had called her 'Charlotte' when he came closer, she looks a little disappointed.
We’re gonna hear it in season 3. I know it!
@@rachelsmith5479 Hi Rachel! Can't wait. It's gonna be music to my ears.😍
@@rosepourpre7913 Hey there! I think we’re all gonna squeal. 😆
@@rachelsmith5479 Especially with what's gonna come right after that.😂😍🥰
@@rosepourpre7913 Oh. For. Sure. I am counting on it. They better not disappoint us!
Colonel Stinkwad 🤣🤣🤣 that killed me
@@ellemiller36 I call it how I see it. 😂
@@juliegarnai7362 Yet, he did so intentionally.
My heart hurts so bad 😢
It’s all going to be okay 🥰 They’re only halfway through their story ❤️
This scene is romantic for sure BUT… can we just talk about the fact that Colbourne kissed his dog on the head AND THEN kissed Charlotte on the mouth?! 😮
I thought the same thing!
Haha, don't go there!! Lol
I thought of that too 😂😂😂
@@noelbell6447 🤣🤣🤣
