the greatest success that I have had was by following the Magic Painter Method (just google it) definately the most incredible course that I've followed.
I just used spray a can and clear after it was sanded then finished. Using different grades of sand paper. 1000 to 5000 grit used then apply Meguires ultimate compound. Per chris fix instructions good video
He should have sanded the area both wet and dry with his fine grade paper, using plenty of water with fine grit is important, that way you'll always get a mirror like finish before painting.
You are a typical spray painter, not a panel beater! Do not use your finger tips to measure how level a panel is. Always use the whole of your left hand over the area. Your left hand is the more sensitive than the right. Using your fingers will result in visible ripples in the clear coat. Why don't you use a color mist spray over the filler before rubbing it down. Not highlighting fine scratches will lead to a "sweating" affect, i.,e. fine bumpy lines visible in the gloss.
Thanks so much. This is exactly the type of damage I have... Can you make a video how to repair deep stone chip marks all the way to the metal? Or is it better to repaint the panel? I have like millions on doors and hood... I have a feeling the best way to protect the hood is to buy a hood deflector..
Quick question. See the way you scuffed the panel down to clear around the area. If you were to apply paint what grit would you do it with? 400-600? Aswell, I painted my bumper I sanded and primed the section and scuffed the whole bumper with 600grit wet and came out perfect, is the 1500 scuff just to minimise scratches?
If I sand down the whole bumper with 220 then 320 then 400, do I still need to sand it with 1500 grit sandpaper? And do I have to primer it after sanding down with 220 even tho I don't have any deep cuts like that?
No cause u cant contol how much heat u put into tolhe plastic which could lead to u over heating it and it stretching as soon as u touch it a heat gun gives you the most contol of the heat u apply before massaging the bumper
+Jon Varbero No the duplicolor primer you see at autozone is not compatible with these paints, they are laquer based. Buy the primer at the same place you buy the base coat to make sure its compatible. GL
+sleepe361 400 grit over any area you are spraying basecoat, 1500 grit over any area you are spraying clear coat. If you are spraying clear coat over base coat than obviously dont go over fresh basecoat with 1500 grit.
Thanks for the vid. Silvers and beige are really hard to color match. Bumper color looks a different shade already. In this case seems that you are not taking the bumper off to re-spray it, Isn't the masking effort greater that taking the cover off?
gianfrancoa not really, I I usually just tape around the bumper and use a large plastic tarp to cover the rest of the car. Some of these bumpers are a beast to take off. Thanks for commenting.
this might sound dumb, but you not speaking perfect English helped me to understand, because you tried harder to explain properly.. awesome video man! you did a more thorough job than any video I've ever watched!
Get a new bar unless they have some one specifically trained in fixing plastic parts all they will do is use a BOG that they use on metal panels which will flake of really easy revealing the damage
I thought it's shouldn't flex because it's all connected to the frame. Frame benting is bad right? See the bumper covers are flexible and cheap to mass produce. cars in the past were had steel bumper and didn't flex , the suspension does all the movement. I mean I don't know if I right but it just a thought.
Miguel Hernandez the bumper cover will bend and stretch more compared to the metal body parts. It will cause the putty and filler to start to flake off
He didn't mix on cardboard, he mixed on glass, and talks about why he's mixing on glass -- please just watch the video before making comments that contradict what's in the video, thx
andrew stretch lol painting isnt as easy as 1.. 2.. 3.. There is only 3 ways you can do this #1 not pay attention and do a half-ass job and wonder why it looks like shit. #2 pay attention and take notes and have atleast a halfway decent job. Or #3 lol stfu quit your whining, get your wallet, and take what ever you want to get painted to a bodyshop. Hm what do ya know maybe it is as easy as 1.. 2.. 3.. Who would've thought lol
Yeah i agree i actualy do what he does professionaly and ive fixed bumper thats been torn apart and the customer thought it was a new one. What he is doing is hiding damage instead of foxing it
Here is the funny thing the way he is doing is structurally weak and is not repairing the integrity of the bumper but just the apearance. The bumper is on the car still unable to repair properly repair is only on the outside not inside meening the damage is not repaird but covered up. Be safe ur car can be the only thing between h dying or living and doing repairs at home is dangerous aswell failure to list the damage u repaired can lead to insurance issues when trying to claim. Ive list some of many issues i can see within a couple minutes also he failed to properly strip the paint which means the putty he just put on is prone to cracking/flaking off due to there being a layer of primer/paint inbetween it and the plastic making it difficult for it to bond. Oh btw im fully qualified specifically to repair bumpers as close as u can to its original appearance and integrity.
the bumper cover is just that,a cover. It has no structural integrity, only esthetic purpose. It covers the actual pumper metal frame the protects the frame of the car.
Very nice and detailed information on how to repair a plastic bumper! Thank you for taking the time to put this all together for us!
Don Cooper np, glad you found them useful. thanks for watching.

Good good
Dude you are the best car instructor guy on RUclips. Thanks bro!
By far the best and most detailed video I've seen thus far...

Thank you for this easy-to-follow and pleasant video. Can anyone recommend a video on how to work on a plastic bumper where the paint has flaked off?
That’s what I need. If I find a good one I’ll report back!
Thanx young man, i hope success for you and your channel :)
Good and step-step clip. I will work on my bumper confidently
Great instruction.Thank you for taking the time to make the video.
Nice job dude clear and easy to understand
Thanks for the thoughtful detailed tips that others would overlook!
I love the tutorial, I just wish he had taken the bumper off to minimize damage or paint spread to other areas.
Nice work..learned a lot from you.

Good job in explaining the process of fixing bumper cover scratches. What type of hardener did you use or would you recommend?
Btw you are awesome! Can't tell you how much help you've been
Jakob Ragnarsson If that is the same audi as you sacrificed for your door panel paint tutorial....I really feel sorry for it!
Jakob Ragnarsson same model, but a different one. Thanks for your comment. cheers
This video is smooth AF!

check 17:40 to 18:15 !!
depends on the plastic, if it is a flexible kind of plastic, they are easy to repair, if they are hard plastic that cracks, forget it.

Yes I got a 200 we 4 buick vreno I need to paint the bumber I did it but it did not came out good .how much do you cost me
good info as always thank you for sharing.
j georges np, thanks for watching.
many thnax for the video. what did you but before the primer is it filler or what ?
If I want to sand.all bumper what sand paper you recommended me sr
You should always spray adhesive promoter before expoy or puddy.
Great Video, thanks for the time and effort. I would like to know how you get the edge of the repair area to blend in though!
Shouldn't you clean the area off with alcohol or adhesive remover before your very first sand down?
Quick question. See the way you scuffed the panel down to clear around the area. If you were to apply paint what grit would you do it with? 400-600? Aswell, I painted my bumper I sanded and primed the section and scuffed the whole bumper with 600grit wet and came out perfect, is the 1500 scuff just to minimise scratches?
Hi , is a 220 grit ideal for deep scratches on the bumper?. Good video by the way.
Is only for bumper or for any part of the car?
When is when you apply the adhesive promor? Or what are the steps. Before the filler, primer or paint.
If I sand down the whole bumper with 220 then 320 then 400, do I still need to sand it with 1500 grit sandpaper? And do I have to primer it after sanding down with 220 even tho I don't have any deep cuts like that?
Great Video. Also, wear can I buy those long ratchet type tools that you gave - they are awesome, dude.
A great help, thanks!
+James Geng glad to hear, yw.

Can you use 400 grit to sand the glazing putty?
Can also use hot water instead of a heat gun to get out dents.
No cause u cant contol how much heat u put into tolhe plastic which could lead to u over heating it and it stretching as soon as u touch it a heat gun gives you the most contol of the heat u apply before massaging the bumper
hey very good video. what primer do you recommend to use? Is duplicolor primer any good?
+Jon Varbero No the duplicolor primer you see at autozone is not compatible with these paints, they are laquer based. Buy the primer at the same place you buy the base coat to make sure its compatible. GL
Great thank you.
great work
so what if you just wanted to repaint the plastic cover, would you just have to scuff it all and clean it really good, then just repaint and clear?
+sleepe361 400 grit over any area you are spraying basecoat, 1500 grit over any area you are spraying clear coat. If you are spraying clear coat over base coat than obviously dont go over fresh basecoat with 1500 grit.
do you need to paint the whole bumper or can you just do one spot and try and blend it in?
Mystic its easier to paint the whole body part compared to blending.
You look like " Everybody Loves Raymond " & sort of sound like him...Your videos are great brother 👍... p.s. do you have a link for elbow grease? 😎
Excellent.
Awesome Vids 😎👍
Why would a bumper that has been restored have a textured finish to it, vs regular smooth paint?
Is the grease and wax remover water base or oil base?
Thanks for the vid. Silvers and beige are really hard to color match. Bumper color looks a different shade already.

I can make a good body repair but my edges are too obvious how far do I have to sand from the damage area?
Very nice job
that is alot of work for a little scratch on a bumper
I always thought wet sanding glazing putty gave best results
juan def not with that guy
Read the back of the instructions on what you are using
Great vid !
Well that would take all day.. no wonder panel beaters charge an arm and a leg i guess.

id say japan
Guatemala or Kazakhstan. I think
Andre Me, Frank Salazar, Esteban Tellez -- Where are you from?
What is that primer you are using exactly called?
if i go to a body shop how much would this cost me with the same damage???
Get a new bar unless they have some one specifically trained in fixing plastic parts all they will do is use a BOG that they use on metal panels which will flake of really easy revealing the damage
Also 300 average
Better get a new bumper if available 😂
Emon... do you have a substitute for your patreon page?

you're never supposed to mix on cardboard because that can add contaminants to your body filler. other then that great video!
Ben Nadeau You're never supposed to use an "e" in the word "than", but rather an "a". Other than that, great comment!
He didn't mix on cardboard, he mixed on glass, and talks about why he's mixing on glass -- please just watch the video before making comments that contradict what's in the video, thx
Where is part 2.
Do you have to paint a car bumper cover...I mean can't I just install it without painting it
Charles H-Bey yeah if you want a matte black bumper on the back of your silver audi
I'm no body guy but I really struggle to continue watching after seeing the primer over-spray drifting onto the rest of the car.
Justin Mai all becauae he dont want to cover it or better yet could of taken it off the car would of been better
would polish out when he polishes the car?
Honestly id hang out with you.
You guys who don't use mist coats on filler and primer before sanding really annoy me!
the gray color of the bumper is different than the other gray of the car. Nobody has noticed?
Rafa Naranjo its an old car its weird, ive noticed old volkswagens and toyotas with lighter paints have odd almost faded looking bumpers
Its the different angles of the panels the light hits it in a weird way. I have the exact same silver audi but it's a 4.2 v8
Hi where is part 3?
For beginners? Hahaha. Make sure you have a garage with all these tools.
