This new album is what it sounds like when you have sharp pop melody song craftsman turn on the power, it genuinely wouldn't sound out of place amongst the peak of 80's and 90's arena-rock with influences varying greatly from Green Day to Nirvana and from Van Halan and Kiss to Bruce Springsteen but ultimately creating their own songs and sprinkling the magic McFly chemistry on those wonderfully nostalgic vibes.
These guys will hopefully finally get some long overdue respect 🙏

I think there is (for me) a measure to which a band must detour from their recorded sound to the live sound for me to enjoy a show. For example: kings of leon - too similar studio and live, its no fun (which is not to say they're not a good band). Mcfly lays down the perfect live/record difference ratio. There was a certain point at their career where they started to "rock up" the songs live hahaha More distortion and stuff. Even with Above the noise (a dancy, pop sort of sound) the live performances were very rock and roll. All of this makes me want to go to their concerts. You're sure to have surprises and a good time. The vocals are always spot on. Idk... Even as a kid when I liked heavy songs I always liked mcfly. It's so much fun. I know what Tom means when he says they have finally managed to transfer the shows to a record. Mcfly is that happy place that fixes a cloudy day for me. I only wish they had split up the vocals more. There are all danny-songs, all-dougie songs and all-tom songs. I would like very much if they divided the vocals live more. I love tom singing and sometimes i feel like he doesn't like his voice very much, or maybe wants to step back a little and let others have their moment too, since he has always been a center piece in the composition department. TOM U ROCK, PLEASE SING IN ALL SONGS I BEG U.

I agree about Kings Of Leon, I loved their early records but if anything they were guilty of doing the opposite to McFly and Busted they went from a serious deep south Blues-Rock band then kind of sold out and went more Pop-Rock with their Only By The Night era and Sex On Fire got far too much airplay.
McFly however and Busted have done a great job in more recent times of giving their Pop tunes much more of a rock punch! 👊

Totally agree. From what I understand, Tom’s been having some ongoing vocal troubles, which means some bits that he was meant to record on this album had to be shared out to D and D. Definitely a shame, as I really miss his voice in the latter half of the album… still very impressed with it as a whole though!

I really love this album generally. The only points I'd make about it, based on personal taste, are that: I don't like 'Honey I'm home', there was a very noticeable lack of Tom doing lead vocals, lyrics here and there felt a tad closed-minded or easy, it dissapointed me how 'Rock and roll' got rhymed with 'soul' on 3 songs from the album - 2 of those 3 were both in the singles' choruses.
But otherwise, the melodies, riffs, drums, and general rocky guitar were on point, Dannys vocals were outstanding on a number of occasions, we got the most Dougie lead vocals we've ever had from a McFly album I think, and this album has produced some of my new favourite or go-to McFly songs, the album doesn't feel cluttered.

As a constant fan - 2 or 3 shows on every single tour, including McBusted (2), I feel entitled to describe this album as Dad Rock. It's frustrating, and I now see that McFly have no real life experiences. They've known nothing but recording, touring, publicity and living in gated communities since school. It's musically efficient - the drumming is great - but they have zero to say about life outside their bubble. I've binned this one.

I'm interested in what you mean exactly. I'm not saying you're wrong - now that I'm older I feel I can admit to myself that the lyrics on this album aren't constantly that good. Is that roughly along the lines of what you meant when you said "zero to say about life outside their bubble"? And also "Dad rock" - do you mean they know how to play instruments but not much significant character or personality? Please elaborate.

@@AngusJones Well, I thought I'd been clear and consise. I love McFly. Before my cd arrived in the post, I'd had messages and texts full of wailing and woe from friends who'd streamed it. IT'S NOT THAT BAD! Musically, I can't criticise, but lyrically.....? I feel that it says, "we don't know much about real life but.........RAWK AND ROLL! will fill the gaps" And gaps there are. Zero meaning, nothing to say; just some dads rocking out in the shed.

@@AngusJones Hi Angus. I feel strongly that this album says very little of value, and it's not musically original enough to stand up as fresh - merely familiar. McFly are incredibly versatile, and previous albums have shown their wide range of abilities. I call this Dad Rock because it's efficient and able, but nothing special. And yes, the lyrics are mostly awful, in my opinion. Compare with "Corrupted", or, "Chills in the Evening", which tell a little story. This is two steps back. At least.

@@hopsail Their 4th album radio active had the best lyrics, and was the best album all round of mcfly's in my opinion. I totally get what you're saying now. I agree.
