Thank you for this useful information, I love your AirSense 10 videos!
I just got an AirSense 10 yesterday, coming off ELEVEN YEARS with a Remstar Plus (one durable machine, but it was finally making noises after 25,540 hours in operation). My first reaction to the Resmed Airsense 10 was, "what a cheap-o filter!" So I am glad to hear there is a better alternative. My respiratory technician did not mention another option.
My old Remstar Plus had two filters: First the inbound air passed through a 1/4-inch-thick, black porous soft foam, washable and reusable filter. That caught all the "heavy stuff" like dust and the occasional fuzz. Behind that, it had a second filter, which was disposable, thin, and white. It was plastic film-coated and had some sort of fine, fibrous material inside. That one caught anything smaller that got through, like common allergens. Together these caught EVERYTHING, and were still quite long-lasting and durable.
The stock filters on the Airsense 10, on the other hand, are pretty lame by comparison. They also seem as if they may let air pass around the edges (not very tightly sealed or pressed in). Looking at the standard filter, I have to wonder, what was Resmed thinking? Very nice machine, otherwise, though! Quite the engineering marvel.
