Great video! I stumbled over your channel a few weeks ago and I have been binge-watching on and off for a few weeks. Absolutely fantastic channel. My wife and I have a traditional Thai house in Nakhon Nayok in a semi-rural area. When I retire in 6 years from now we plan to live a similar lifestyle to you. We want to be as self-sufficient as possible. We want to grow most of our food and we will have solar power too. I will be 60, so we will have few luxuries too. Your channel has become my favorite RUclips channel. It has been fantastic to watch your journey unfold and to learn from you too. The relationship you have with Otis is an absolute loy to see. Brilliant channel Ryan.

1st time i ever seen a thai person using safety gear good for them. Solar makes sense for the enviroment and also on your costs. Good to see otis has the good sense not to climb the ladder. You taught him well. Great video.
Ryan i got too much respect for you.. youve changed that familys life.. and the love we see you showing naturally for otis and damo and her family is amazing.. you have a great heart my friend.. your a inspiration. I smile every time i watch your vlogs.. would love to travel to thailand just to spend a day with u in that life! Keep it up!!!
I couldn’t find your follow up video you have so many videos, the technology in panels have bettered and a standard panel can be 615V now, the warranty isn’t so much from the installers but the equipment manufacturer
Always love your vlogs mate . This is so sensible considering how much sun Thailand gets . I’d be tempted to go completely off the grid with this set up and just have a small generator just in case .
Ryan- that is such cool thing to have and thanks for sharing all the information about your solar panels! Really a wonderful idea and the garden and plants looks great in the garden! So does Otis and your lovely wife:)
Nice one Ryan I love solar so much so I have it in my car for going off grid. If you go down the battery storage path it’s worth trying deep cycle electric forklift battery, they actually work pretty well and cheap. Down side is they are big and extremely heavy . Lithium are awesome but the good ones are expensive $1000 plus . Love your work mate .
Great video mate, and very informative. Can’t wait to see the environmental impact and secondly the savings that you make, and will be interesting like you said to see how long it takes to pay it off and get it running free basically. I’d like to say within 5 years, but it doesn’t really matter as it’s constantly saving you money and helping with your environmental desire which is amazing. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Thanks mate for the great info . My wife and I have a new house waiting for us in the northern part of the Philippines and we have discussed solar power to save on the A/ C .
Are those warranties from the manufacturer or the installer? That would determine who would service an issue right? Or, do you think you can always go to the installer?
Over 60% of Thailands electricity is generated from mostly imported natural gas (LNG) and 20% from burning coal. Solar panels make sense for both environmental and cost reasons. With Thailands dependence on imported fossil fuels electricity prices will certainly rise
Nice one. Be interesting to see how much it saves on the bill 👍We already have the water pump powered by solar but would love to extend that to the house.
Yes, agree that youtube sometimes is a stupid place but we think you is a smart person ! Keep up the good work and show things like this that really matters ! Like it !! / Johan

You can augment you solar installation with self contained recharable lights that are solar powered (sometimes sold as camping lights). I gave a couple to an off-grid friend (one a decorative string of lights and one for reading) and she loves them. I set one up on the trees near her front door, and stuck its little solar panel in a plant pot, and now she has some lights to welcome her when she returns home in the dark and on occasion when her power fails (which happens) she still has enough light, plus she can still read even if her inverter gives "low power" warnings
Just cut the tree about half way. It didn't look like you have to take the tree down. I'm the same way, to leave all the trees, but trimming still works right?

@@lifeinruralthailand Were you ever able to find out about selling excess electricity back to PEA? That's another thing I'd be thinking about if I were to size, and buy a system.
I think the capitol upfront required for a system this big would be like 600,000 baht and even then you may only have a small amount to see which would amount to a few baht a month. We never looked into the sell back though. Cheers
Actually a 5KW solar power system with a 5KWHr LiFePO4 battery battery is only 160000 Baht now and you can install a new separate consumer unit alongside the old one to leave only the high power spikey equipment like 6KW water heaters on the old consumer unit. if you generate more than you need does it get put back into the grid? and if it does would the electric company pay for whatever you put back into the grid?
Great work Ryan. The retail price for a 3kw system is a little high in my opinion as I have seen several other companies doing for less and even seen a very well respected farang owned solar company doing 5kw systems for 179,000 baht (I have been to visit 2 such installations) but overall it's definitely worth having an on-grid solar system I would say even if your current consumption is a little low you may get more pumps or appliances later. I think when we do ours we will opt for a hybrid inverter even if we start off with an on-grid system as I will be waiting for battery unit prices to come down and efficiency increased for them before I go for a hybrid system for on-grid and off-grid battery back up.

and any update about the decreased bill as of it ? I get about 3.500 Baht out on my Solar, the rest bill to PEA depends on the time, winter about 900 Baht, summer another 3.000+ Baht as of AirCon, Fans ... got out 65% of the investment yet ... and electric costs are rising last month each 2.2% ... @@lifeinruralthailand Ohoh Hot Tube sounds dangerous. Have fun. So saving the lowers bill until next year, perfect for a 3rd inverter with 9 cells in march ... when the heat begins (again). I installed all myself ... and run well now since October 2019. And main first savings and pollution reduce (electric 40% gas, 20% coal) How is the price electric at you ? Here last bill was 2.726 Baht for 570 KW/h = 4.783 Baht/KWh - in summer will reach 7.000 Baht.
Dude, check out "Magnetic motor", that's some interesting energy source. Most of that thing can be 3D printed. Can't say much more, but smarter people than me brought it to my attention.
Electric is cheap in Thailand. I would prefer to go solar but am waiting to find a fairly priced installer. The figures don’t add up yet financially to install it.
The price of solar panels has dropped 90% in the last 10 years and payback in Thailand can be less than 3 years if you get mates rates on the installation costs . The panels should last over 50 years so payback is extraordinarily good now as long as you think ahead more than 3 years.
Not completely legal, but widely used in Thailand with solar instals without lithium batteries is whereby the solar produced spins the electricity meter in reverse so you nightly consumption is offset. There are new ‘feed in meters’ supplied by the PEA, maybe enquire at your local office 😊
A 3Kw system will definitely handle everything on the farm, even with adding a 2T a/c system on it. Time to brush up on Ohm's law. Your monthly bill should be in the negatives (net metering) from now on, especially with Thai electric prices.

Not completely legal, but widely used in Thailand with solar instals without lithium batteries is whereby the solar produced spins the electricity meter in reverse so you nightly consumption is offset. There are new ‘feed in meters’ supplied by the PEA, maybe enquire at your local office 😊
Cheers Michael will check it out 🙏
Good long term investment and also green energy.

We believe you and In you mate🙏🏻
Thank you Graham 🙏
It would be nice if Asolar would add a click button to switch it's website to English
A 3Kw system will definitely handle everything on the farm, even with adding a 2T a/c system on it. Time to brush up on Ohm's law. Your monthly bill should be in the negatives (net metering) from now on, especially with Thai electric prices.
Cheers Mackay 🙏✊☺️🇹🇭
Useful 1...hmm
Can you talk about the cost?
Yes I mention the installation cost in the vlog, breakdown of savings in 2 months ✊🙏
How long did you study Thai from zero to middle level?
About 2-3 years to get a good grip if immersed and using regularly 🙏
@@lifeinruralthailand Great. Im almost 7 years in Thailand, still zero :)
