When my wife died suddenly in 2018, this song perfectly captured my feelings of utter desolation - but it was also strangely comforting. I played it so many times in the months afterwards. Today I revisited it for the first time in a couple of years and it’s still profoundly moving. Much love to everyone who finds this song special for whatever reason.
I can appreciate your finding comfort in this song...finding peace and comfort in the midst of grief is a rare yet powerful blessing.
You and your wife are loved, even by strangers who have never met you. I am glad this song brought you comfort. Music connects all of us.
My 32 years old daughter died also in december 2018, and it's true that this song and a lot of other song written and played by Olafur Arnalds produce the same effect but also make you cry.
best wishes friend
pipipi
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
I agree completely…….after years I still get goosebumps.
Yes!!!
@@silentpianomusic It is the most beautiful. I am pianist from the conservatory, Pure Genius. And Bjork's twin. What more can you ask for.
We are all floating in a sea of harmonic oscillators on the plank scale. To be here is a gift. I always am bought back to the research bench with this one. How beautiful.
To those that have lost, may you be reunited again.
here in these times of COVID 19.... finding peace and stability from a world gone mad.
may all of you be well and safe.
I listen to this frequently....so beautiful
CONvid brother 👊🏾
COVID 19 will never beat the human spirit. We are spiritual beings just living a human experience. And that's no match for Covid and the madness.
❤️❤️
This is hands down one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard
And one of the most boring.
no need to be abusive sir
+bruceaisher i feel sorry for him. poor human.
I listen to your music Electus!
I am sitting here saying the same thing. I keep listening to him and his songs and I find one after the other that is just better than before...and I just keep on going. :) He is fantastic!!!
gave me hope in the darkest times. saved my live and gave me the motivation fighting out of the wheelchair. thanx for that beautiful composition
Every time I’m listening this song.. I’m crying 😢
This song saw me through one of the hardest things I've ever been through; the stillbirth of my son 23/10/2018
So, for me personally, this is now Hezekiah's song. Happy heavenly birthday, little man xx
Your post just broke my heart.
♥️
Bless your heart. I lost one too. Never forgotten ❤
❤️

And Gänsehaut on top!
I used to listen to this beautiful song when I was under my chemo treatment. Thanks for this beautiful music ❤️
Possibly my most fav song ever. Nanna and Olafur need to make a full length album.
Day 978 still listening every day and having a few minutes of flying with the angels
The whole world should listen to this song, have a good long cry together and then just start over. Reset. More compassionate. Pure hearts. Loving kindness. Brothers. Sisters. Less ego. More empathy. Less talk. More action. Brothers. Sisters.
GODDDD YESSS !!! bless this comment...even after two years more relevant than ever.
A hundred times YES.
There is a pure regret behind it though: m.ruclips.net/video/bp1aP_CEq44/видео.html
this is such a beautiful comment. thank you for this
We don't have to know in order to love. I love you all. 🌿
Here I am
Floating in emerald sea
Keep me dancing
Keep me as still as can be
And I try to keep the balance right
And I try but it feels like wasted time
But these heavy hands
They're pulling me down on my chest
Latching on, coloring all of my flesh
Quietly, you hover over me
And I fight, but it feels like wasted time
Feels like wasted time
Say goodnight
I know that I'm swallowed in sea
We collide, colors that devour me
Just say goodnight
I'm already down
And I cry
Already down
Already down
And I cry
Already down
And I try
And I try
But it feels like wasted
Thank you Skam France for making us discovering the most beautiful Music.
This song makes me think about how do humans feel, trying to escape from war in their country, feeling a total emotional distress, surviving lost in the middle of the Mediterranean sea with their children, far from their beloved and their roots, their sweet memories, their whole identity... trying to survive to geopolitics violence!!
So innocent people, I send you all my love and strength.
I feel you 💓🌍💔🫂🫀❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks to musicians and artists that help us connect with our heart, our humanity 💓🙏🏼☮️🌍
There is some serious genius in Icelandic air.
When a country doesn't spend its time waging wars or fighting their population, it becomes a safe environment for creators.
@@InXLsisDeo We have to defend the Western world against threats in order for the next generation to produce art and divine master piece. I totally agree with you
Nanna
I'm glad this song was featured on Skam France Season 4 episode 5. This song is so beautiful.
Iceland always produces very talented musicians!
Brazil already loves you too, Ólafur! You are walking with very nice people, your mom may be proud.
Yeaaaaaah
May more proud mothers unite!
Indeed! Those Icelandic people, man, they're just too special
And Russians ))
I'm over half a century old.. this song rates in my top ten, most beautiful of all time. This is sublimely good.. thank you Olafur. What's in that Icelandic water??
Its the weather, the cold and dark breeds depth and character. Iceland has the highest per capita prescriptions of anti-depressants in the world, this darkness and turbulence helps makes the whole. Beauty is a symmetry of light and dark, it is found at the inflection point between the negative and positive emotional states, this song exemplifies this, you need both sides.
The bride is beautiful because she is shielded by the veil, the veil is the bridge between light and dark, the best and most beautiful music is found here, the veil is the inflection point.
3:42 love the brush just going on every beat
美しい曲
日本からいつも感謝してます
Are they putting something weird in the Icelandic water? How do you get so many great musicians?
Kenneth Skertchly It's probably the lack of things they put in their water :)
I suspect it has something to do with the bleak but beautiful landscape surroundng them. they can see beauty and pain being something which are equally valuable?..their music reflects this and is more authentic...as opposed to big booty shallow crap we get in the west?
Kenneth Skertchly the water runs clean you can lay down in nature and drink it💧💧❄🌊
Icelandic water is the purest and fresher water i probably drunk in all my life...! It could well be the secret! :D
vitamine D deficiency may be. what ever it is it works!
I'm watching this for like the 10th time and still don't feel like wasting time.
For me it's like the 30+ time I've watched this and still don't feel like wasting time.
One of the best songs I have
heard in my 50+ years on this planet.
I listened to it all night and cried endlessly.... 😢
Same here😢, хотя зачем тебе грустить? Ничего не меняется! Я только видела, как умирают невинные люди и животные, и ничего не могу поделать!!!!!!!!!!!

What a voice and musical arrangements! Nanna Bryndis makes me dream in countless ways, under the guidance of the talented Olafur Arnalds. This is one of those unforgettable musical works of art - it will last for many centuries - for my grandchildren, great-grandchildren and whoever comes through the door of time. Congratulations in the clouds!
I just wish there was more music like this.
@Peurpda Peurp thank you for the suggestion! I'll check that out
@@JBells96 what suggestion was? :(
I hope angels are half as beautiful as Nanna ❤
Nanna's voice is beautiful, that's the only way to tell you. I saw Of Monsters and Men live 7 years ago in Philadelphia. The entire band is beyond talented. Unless you've seen them in person, it's almost unexplainable. One of the best shows I've ever been to.
Repeated like 50 times already. So wonderful.
Very soothing and calming
Wow. this music is so full of emotion and love. You can feel it. Its not something you listen to, you FEEL it.
Piano Around the World it's about someone drowning her...
@@shibbyrick that's too literal an interpretation my G.
This song is emotion, you feel not listening to it.

I dont know why, but I can't hear this song without crying. I wouldnt usually call myself an overly emotional man, but something about this piece reaches deep inside me and fills me with a sea of feelings that I can't really explain. Amazing music, I wish everyone could take some time to sit down, listen to this song and let wash over them...
The waiting room to heaven... God will see you now.
I hope the next collab is with Jonsi or Alex Somers. They are both amazingly talented artists!
Yes for Jonsi!
"Sin Fang feat. Jonsi". Just search on RUclips guys.

Imagine, Glòsoli or another beautiful theme, hey sàtan Nanna and Jònsi.
just beautiful!
Nanna is too perfect for this world.
...and I just realized that I am crying. This song has touched my soul.
11, July 2022, had the worst heartbreak, just got a terrible covid with a fever that won't go down, i was home alone and couldn't reach out for any friends' help, resigned from a toxic job with no future plan or opportunity.
This song was my companion.
And I tell you, it gets so much better. So much.
The setting is so simple, relaxed and informal, yet so beautiful music coming out of it.
This is perhaps one of the most beautiful tracks over heard in a hell of a long time.
Turn off the lights, lay back, headphones on close your eyes and listen. I guarantee you will have an emotional release and one that will last you for a while. I thoroughly enjoyed this...
Wow!!! Thank you
Still great music many years later
So Close, So Far...all Particles. We float, sometimes touching. To music. This music. From the throbbing, loving heart of Iceland.
A grieving healing song. Only God knows our deepest intimate thoughts. Peace.
I'm so blessed with her voice, love you Nanna and thank you Ólafur
When going down music rabbit hole's bring you here 🥺❤
This is what perfection sounds like
I'm jealous of all the people who get to hear this for the first time.
It’s my first time lol
It is indeed stunning! 💜💜💜
Me. One hour ago. Sweet baby jesus.
I am one of them now and played it a couple of times...
Like me ❤
Omg I love her expressions and her voice
C'est doux comme un rayon de lune
I just played this for my grade 8 class after analyzing the lyrics as they connect to our novel study of "Speak". The were able to interpret the emotions related to trying and trying to hold things together, despite have it seem all worthless..."feels like wasted time." Beyond the lyrics they expressed how much her voice, the movement of the camera doing circles around the players, the repetition of chords on the piano, and even the instrumentalists on the steps gave depth and meaning to the song. The novel, written by Laurie Halse Anderson, tells the story of a 9th grade girl who is in the depth of isolation, sadness, and anger after a summer tragedy. Very powerful.
many thanks for your bounding on the "speak" of ann intentionally and intonally alliancing on the melodic flow of music, words and metrik in ourselfes!
Now I have another point of pushing me, myself, the dance and surroundings, into the greater fields of earth, stars and the H to O, for others to grow!
Thank you for your post, Ken, I didn't know it's based on a novel
Alan Baulch it isn’t actually based on the novel. I just found that it speaks directly to the themes in the novel. It is no coincidence that I came across this song at the time I was guiding my students through the novel.
What a great teacher you are. ❤ Love this beautiful song, and I shall look up that novel now.
@@suecondon1685 Thank you.
Does anyone realize this is possibly the first collaboration Olafur has done with a female "vocalist". I've been following his music since 2009 or so. This here, is gold, and absolutely new. I was waiting for something like this. A voice like hers, and Olafur's music to go with it. Beautiful!
Even after 5 years it still open so much inside of me, inside my soul. So much that I write this with moistly eyes.
im so glad i stalked someone's youtube channel n saw their playlists 😂
Nanna is perfect 😍
How is this still my favorite song after 6 years and probably thousands of plays? Seriously. It's perfect.
I would like to thanks Skam France for making me discover such a beautiful song.
To this day, Particles remains to be my favorite song hands down. Beyond my adoration for Nanna, this songs consistently stays incredibly prevalent with my current state, no matter the time.
Great peaple from 🇮🇸 Iceland
I can listen to this song on an endless loop for hours on end. The vocalist is astounding, the emotion she portrays is heart wrenching. Love it !!
Every time I hear it, it gives me the same sensations as the first day: tenderness, love and an extraordinary sensibility.
I have nothing to say.... just listen... thats everything....this song does the rest....
Connected with this song on an existential level
Whenever I miss you, I will come here and continue longing your shadow, the memories and patting the heartache...
Same 😭❤️
I like thinking about the meaning of this song as a story of a drowned woman and her soul out of her body which sees that a lifeguard tries to reanimate her, but she already knows that's too late and it's just wasted time. Whole process of saving life is always emotional, rushing and stressful, but the song maintains peaceful vibe, even though she cries about leaving this world, but knowing it's time to move on. Say goodbye and don't worry- you've done your best
Hauntingly beautiful ❤
This music takes me to another beautiful world
6 ans apres, toujours les memes frissons.
'Island Songs' is a beautiful body of work.
Ouvir isso é um encontro com os sonhos mas profundo do inconsciente
Truly the most beautiful song😍😍❤️❤️

Her voice is so angelic!
She’s ok but she just sounds like everyone else in this vein of music

Try listening to Of Monsters and Men if you like her voice. It’s her band, and it is very cool
I shed a tear Nanna has the most amazing voice I've ever heard
I Love this woman,so perfect,that voice...
Breathtaking and sacred
Una delle melodie più belle che abbia mai sentito , la dedico a te ❤️ ovunque tu sia.....
This song gets me every. single. time. Absolutely beautiful.
excellent vocal and excellent performance by the rest of the performers, thanks
This is what sincere music sounds like. Straight from an honest emotional place. Olafur is real.
my God, icelandic blood is precious
Damn right XD
PREACH
yeah, iceland is something else
No it is not. Or not any more precious than any other blood. It may appear that an unusually high percentage of Icelanders are making appealing music, and indeed, a larger number of Icelanders do, but it has nothing to do with genetics or blood. The main reason is subsidised music schools and the grate work done there. A large percentage of Icelandic children study music from age six and up, the vast majority of which never become musicians, but a side effect of this is that the kids learn to listen to (and yes this is something you can learn and get better at) and appreciate different types of music (effectively building a market for music). This large percentage of kids learning music insures that those that do have an innate knack for it actually discover this talent instead of becoming a lawyer, hairdresser or a used car sales man. Long story short, good things come to those who work hard for them. This applies to societies just as it applies to individuals.
I don't think he meant it literally.
He meant it maybe in a poetic way, that what makes Icelanders Icelandic is something to be treasured, captured, retained, hope never to be lost.
So this is what Nanna has been doing, I have to say this was brilliant and I'm interested in Ólafur as a result. Plus does anyone else think she gets better at singing all the time?
This and being on Game of Thrones...
Nothing special XD
If one particle of your soul, will free a moment magic, all your around, may be and will be.
Nanna you're an angel i love u
Am I the only one having trouble with this video, AS I CAN'T STOP WATICHING IT! It is soooo beautiful!

Hahahaa!!! Same here! It's very difficult for me to stop listening to this. It's absolutely magical and heart opening. I am profoundly touched. Extraordinary.
Oh man... I love every single second of this. What a gorgeous, moving piece of music.
There are so many things happening in such beautiful unison. The fact that as the camera pans and when you hear each instrument is perfection. It's masterclass in everything, music videography, lighting...this song got me through
Goosebumps and tears.... simply stunning
Iceland is, in fact, on another planet... They're to good to be human!

This song is hauntingly beautiful and makes me cry every time I listen to it.
this song reminds me how magnificent is to be alive.
So beautiful.
One of my favorite things about Ólafur's music is how the recordings keep the sounds the piano makes as he presses the keys and pedals. It gives the music this really nice grounded and almost earthy quality.
Frahm does that too, but I think he even goes overboard a bit and it becomes distracting. Olafur gets it right.
