  • Dr. Roger Seheult of www.medcram.com continues his explanation of lung cancer staging and lung cancer treatment. Tumor node metastasis (TNM) staging system is discussed in detail.
Targeted therapy and treatment for non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC): squamous cell lung cancer, adenocarcinoma, and large cell carcinoma is discussed. Staging and treatment for small cell lung cancer (SCLC, oat cell carcinoma) is also covered.
This is part 2 of lung cancer staging and treatment. Visit www.medcram.com for this entire course and over 100 free lectures. This is the home for ALL MedCram.com medical videos (many medical videos, medical lectures, and quizzes are not on RUclips).

A growing library on critical care topics such as Shock, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), and Mechanical Ventilation. Cardiology videos on Hypertension and heart failure. VQ Mismatch and Hyponatremia lectures have been popular among medical students. Our Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) videos have been particularly popular with RTs. NPs and PAs have given great feedback on Pneumonia Treatment and Liver Function Tests among many others. Many nursing students have found the Asthma and shock lectures very helpful.

Just discovered I'm at 3A and your explanation helped me calm down a lot. I'm fighting the fear of chemo and surgery by getting educated and your videos are the best. Thank you.

thank you very much for these excellent videos! Is the pathological prognosis of a type IV really 13%? That would be better as the type III.
Was most likely a mistake and should have read 1,3%.

Is there a new staging system where we have T0 and TX and a T2C
    And a M1c?

This is soooooo good, but can you please clarify why the IAs are really IIAs, and why isn't this caught during diagnosis? Do we not have medical technology/methods to catch these cases?

I feel like that last number in your staging has to be a mistake because according to you a stage 4 pathological staging of lung cancer has a higher level of survival than stage 3b indicating it would be better to let the disease advance than treat rather than treat immediately as the survival rate increases once in higher staging. I mean I very much doubt that's the case but you can understand my confusion. I hope you can clarify but if not thank you for the information.

Is the staging according to AJCC or UICC ( the quickest way would be to think that as an American you would use AJCC but maybe not , in germany we´re being taught sometimes AJCC, sometime UICC )?

Cancer staging was developed in the 1940's and needs to be revised or replaced. The fact that different cancers can be set at the same stage but have such a large variation in 5 yr survival rate shows it is not particularly useful.

Dylan klg TNM has been revised 8 times already since its development. Staging is not only useful for prognosis but also for choosing the appropriate treatment. This is particularly true regarding the lung cancer staging as the treatment options are completely different between different stages. That said, TNM is not the only staging system out there, and for other tumors (e.g. cholangiocarcinoma or small cell lung cancer) it is not as useful as it is for non-small cell lung cancer.
