I stayed on KhaoSan Road for all 3 days of Songkran, such a beautifully chaotic experience! Just Sub'd to your channel, I got back from a month long stay in Thailand last week and I've been scheming to get back as soon as possible :) I was debating going to Chang Mai for the festival but I booked a room with a girl I met @ the D&D Inn last minute, no regrets! We went to S20 rave the 2nd night to see Nicky Romero spin, fucking awesome party. Nice vids dude, you're living the dream.
The Bangkok newspapers were talking about the drought and restrictions on the water fights this year, I was nervous that Songkran wasn't gonna be poppin' but as you can see it was epic as usual :)
Christian, you should try Sinulog Festival here in Cebu Philippines. Its really great! Its like Water, paint, and Holi powder fight for the whole day. It is celebrated every 3rd Sunday of January :)
Lived/Worked in Thailand for a few years and the celebration is amazing... Songkran in its literal form means "change places". The water combined with white clay is symbolic to wash away the last years transgressions. Silver bowls are used in wats to "pour" water on patrons and that has evolved to water guns/fights. Experience both sides of this while visiting. Chang Mai celebrates Songkran for 6 days so if you can plan properly you can extend the party. WRT the money and folding, never heard that one but did hear about walking on money; king under foot is very disrespectful. Elderly are also typically off limits unless they are participating. Khao San Road and Sukhumvit Soi 4 were my families favorite spots and would often take motorcy or tuk tuk between the two and get in some mobile fights along the way. Good times... For me nice places for Songkran in Bangkok are in Nana, Central world, Siam center, then go to Silom area by Bts, and go Kaosan road by Tuk tuk😊👍🏻
