I used to hate that time every two years I had to go to the DMV and get my car tags brought up to date. About ten years ago, my state removed all state workers from the DMV and replaced them with a private contractor. Now, I never spend more than five minutes in there. I don't call that little to no show for it when you consider where our food comes from and how many landowners/farmers use these programs.

For some folks I know, they are still in their probationary period, are not in a bargaining unit position, and are unable to realistically go to an office. Some of the people who were working remote did not need to physically be in the office 5 days a week. The power of the purse belongs to Congress (ART I Sec.9), and federal law in the Impoundment Act of 1974 clearly lays out how federally appropriated funds must be spent and by whom. Red states get far more federal dollars in than they pay out, whereas Blue states pay far more into the federal coffers than they get back. Montana got the most federal funds to their budget. You can thank federal funding for keeping the lights on for your police and road crews which repair roads, bridges, etc.
