"Always on My Mind" is a 1972 song originally recorded by Brenda Lee, later covered by Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, Pet Shop Boys, and other artists. 🎼
It's a great cover, and better than either Willie *or* Elvis did, but best cover of all time has to be Whitney covering Dolly's "I Will Always Love You"...
I'm turning 50 in less than a couple of months and will *CONFIRM* to the universe that the 80's and early 90's were way better than anything after. I want to go back really bad.
Agree with you but lets remember it all depends on the era of music you grew up with.People turning 70 would say 60's or 70's were great and people turning 40 would prefer 2000- 2010 . Put it simple it was the era we grew up in.
When this song came out, I remember hearing a comment on the radio from a former country music producer who said that the PSB version was much better then the Elvis or Willle Nelson version.
God, I remember dancing to this, underage in clubs, the music throbbing, and me almost in tears because of the sheer beauty of this song! Now I'm 47 and it still grabs at my heart ❤️

Really ? I prefer the cover by Elvis Presley and Willie Nelson's. It sound and feel really good when you play their version of song on the guitar and piano.
How the F**k can people thumbs down such an amazing cover of a fantastic song? Born and raised on classics like this, all thanks to my wonderful late mother. Great memories of going drives with the cassette on in the car - my mum and dad up front and me in the back seat with my brother and sister. Happier times.
This song for the last 7 ish years has made me tear up because it's one my grandma liked to play when I stayed at her house overnight as a child/teenager. It made me tear up after I stopped staying at her house once I got older, and I thought about the fact that it probably wouldn't be long until I lost her. We lost my uncle, her son, who lived with her, in 2022 in an accident. Tomorrow is my grandma's 80th birthday. Life is so weird sometimes... out of all my grandparents, she is the only one left, and the rest all passed away aged 67-71. We never thought for a second my grandma would be the one to make it to her 80s with all her health issues, hatred of going to the doctor... let alone the grief she's been through. This song still makes me tear up because I know it won't be long until all that's left of my grandma is memories, but I enjoy every moment I spend with her. ❤

I shared that time. I agree with you 100% We all need to get together and make this world right again like it was in the 80's for our children, grand children and generations to come!
Back in the day, I used to BLAST this on my CD player and through my parent's speakers when they weren't home. I could listen to this all day! Nothing against Elvis or Willie, but for my money this is the best version of this song! So unique, talk about putting their own stamp on a great song!
This version has more body to it I think. And you certain notice it more than Elvis's version. This was no 1 in UK at Christmas 1987, so this would have been my first Christmas.
It's a rare thing for a cover to be better than the original. But every once in a while, like this, it happens. More epic. More melancholy. Relentless. That echo-ing "YOU!". (And Neil Tennant's perfect enunciation is almost the anti-Elvis, who mumbled and slurred everything he said - so you actually get to hear the lyrics. Finally.)
GO! GO! You went away! This should make me feel better!! 57 years old and I remember those words as if it is 1983 when I joined the Navy and stayed in for 24 years. The scenes in a lot of these 80’s videos bring back a lot of good memories of bygone times that’ll never be again. The mind is an awesome little place to have for the memories that no one wants to hear or care about.

I saw them on the 19th June in Nottingham, and when this song came on, i cried and i cried. When i first heard this song..i was a kid in 1997...and my grandma had died young at 51.. and my mum...kept playing this over and over. The lyrics 'always on my mind' are on my grandmas headstone. It breaks my heart when i hear this song, and when i heard it live, it broke me more. Everytime i hear it..my heart its just heavy. I miss you grandma. You're always on my mind.
Hands down, BEST version of this song EVER!! The way his voice drops each time he says "You were always on my mind" the second time, gives me chills. Awesome.... but then again, what have these guys done that isn't?
R.I.P. Joss Ackland .. all the news articles mention Lethal Weapon and Bill and Ted, but this work is what came to mind when i heard of his passing .. carpool karaoke before it was a thing .. and THOSE SHOULDER SHRUGS ?? FANTASTIC !! "i'm going there .. but i like it here where everything is ..."

Fun fact: The last line that Joss Ackland (the passenger in the car) says in this video ("You went away! It should make me feel better. I don't know how I'm gonna get through...") is actually part of the chorus of another Pet Shop Boys hit, "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" from the same album.

Un abrazo a todos los que compartieron esa hermosa época !!
igual aqui 52 y sigo 👍
Depende de onde vc está falando porque o Brasil da decada de 80 era um país muito mais fudido que esse em que vivemos.
😊👍👍👍
I shared that time. I agree with you 100% We all need to get together and make this world right again like it was in the 80's for our children, grand children and generations to come!
@@duendesalazar1854 Just turned 52 this year. Seems like I just graduated from highschool 10 or 15 year's ago. Lol

80s baby, 90s made me 😂❤😊

Me too i'am 42 . The best song ever...
Probably the best cover of any song, ever!
Witney Houston's "I will always love you"
Dolly Parton said herself what a privillege it was to hear that version of her song.
I love the twirking on the thumbnail
Marcesius: Definitely one of them.
Definitely The best!
I just was saying the same exact thing👊
Back in the day, I used to BLAST this on my CD player and through my parent's speakers when they weren't home. I could listen to this all day!
Nothing against Elvis or Willie, but for my money this is the best version of this song! So unique, talk about putting their own stamp on a great song!
Totally agree. PSB just made this song epic.
This version has more body to it I think. And you certain notice it more than Elvis's version. This was no 1 in UK at Christmas 1987, so this would have been my first Christmas.
I got ya, I'm blasting it from my apartment whenever I feel the moment to this day :)
@@kevinprior3549 same...I was 10 (months)!!!😆
Whats a CD?
Without a doubt one of the best covers, ever! Still love it 36 years on
💯💋
It's a rare thing for a cover to be better than the original.
But every once in a while, like this, it happens.
More epic. More melancholy. Relentless. That echo-ing "YOU!".
(And Neil Tennant's perfect enunciation is almost the anti-Elvis, who mumbled and slurred everything he said - so you actually get to hear the lyrics. Finally.)
80s were awesome. Always feel like a teenager when listening to 80s music
34 years later and I still love this song!!
I love more Elvis Presley version
@@justoemiliosanchezo.9140 I'm not an Elvis Presley fan.

I’ve been looking for it for 2 hours, but 34 years it’s long dude. Respect and enjoy
GO! GO!
You went away!
This should make me feel better!!
57 years old and I remember those words as if it is 1983 when I joined the Navy and stayed in for 24 years.
The scenes in a lot of these 80’s videos bring back a lot of good memories of bygone times that’ll never be again.
The mind is an awesome little place to have for the memories that no one wants to hear or care about.
ok
Wish you’d said you were in the Navy...I just couldn’t tell.
80's rule. Period. Im 55 and STILL listening to my 80s music....it feels so right to remember. Damn. Lol
Navy Retired those times we lived the 80 will never be gone if people of the 80 still live On :) go 80...

This song is timeless. My grandchildren will hear this song in the future
Pet Shop Boys no son de este mundo.
This is one of the best songs ever. That voice is hauntingly beautiful. Awesome.
Angie Niccals that's beautiful x
May God bless you and your grandma.
That is so beautiful. May she RIP..
Angie Niccals I'm so sorry for the lost
97 was when I first heard this song too.
ABSOLUTELY FRIKKIN' ICONIC! THANKS, BOYS!
Hands down, BEST version of this song EVER!! The way his voice drops each time he says "You were always on my mind" the second time, gives me chills. Awesome.... but then again, what have these guys done that isn't?
Absolutely Jim, but let's remember Elvis doing this first time.

But feel when you are older and have gone through a loss
The best cover of a cover! And the 80s were great also...!
Cover of a cover?
Ah, now I got it... I'm going to research about Brenda...
@Megan Shell Thanks!...
@Megan Shell No, actually, B.J. Thomas first recorded it in 1970. The first artist to release it was Gwen McCrae, in 1972. Then followed by covers that same year by Brenda Lee, then Elvis Presley.

'Always On My Mind" is the only song of the 1980s to make the Billboard Top 5 with two versions.
It is a testament to the songwriters skill that it translated so well in different genres of music.
Trev didn't produce this song, but he did Left to my own devices from the same album.
@@leesmapman4764 Wait - then who produced the rest of the album? I know Lewis A. Martineé did 'Domino Dancing'.
Okay, the rest of the album was produced by the usual suspects: David Jacob, Stephen Lipson, Julian Mendelsohn, and Pet Shop Boys.

@@exoplanet11 It is also a testament to the songwriting skills of Neil and Chris that they subtly added a couple of extra transition chords into the structure of the song...!

Oh my gosh . . . I AM SO SORRY. That is absolutely devastating, I can't imagine your pain.... You are in my thoughts. I hope he is in peace, and still looking over you with love, despite what his mental pain drove him to do. And I know he is always on your mind. I wish you peace and healing for yourself, although it will take time.
Ok, well I love the first thing he says: "I'm a bilingual illiterate. I can't read in two languages." Seems plausible.
That's nothing! I can't read in many more languages than that!
