    Folks, this brings Episode XI - The Last Kingdom of Islam to a close. We will be taking a side journey through the Fall of Constantinople next and then will return for Episode XII: Reconquista - Isabella for the final chapter in Al Andalus. Couple of items:
    1) Please don't forget to share this video on social Media and spread word about the podcast - this is an often neglected time period in history.
    2) Big favor for the Apple / Podcast people in audience. Please hit that purple podcast button on your phone, search for Flash Point History and leave me a decent rating / review. It takes just a few moments - this helps out a lot!
    3) I'm working on the Bonus Episode on Constantinople - I'll have it up in a few weeks. Everyone stay safe in the mean time!

    Caliph Omar ibn Abdul Aziz, when he read the rapport of his governor As-Samh ibn Malik al-Khawlani about the situation of Andalusia, he was shocked by the huge number of
    Christians in the peninsular & suggested that they be all transferred and distributed in the Islamic world, but Al-Samh reassured him saying that Islam is spreading among them and that they will not pose a threat to the Islamic existence

      I know. Few will ever see my "The Politically-Incorrect History of atheism + Refutations of atheist Myths" and the reasons for that include that people don't want the truth, and they follow the crowd because they want to fit in, and they dismiss anything that isn't mainstream as a result of their lack of free thinking and fear of ostracism.

    • @braxon
      @braxon 4 года назад +1

      @@scintillam_dei Or it could simply be hard to accept an objective truth from someone so obviously enthralled by "alternate truths". Seriously, its hard to take anyone seriously who argues that Atheist are merely "going with the crowd" and the religious are somehow going against the flow. Protestantism in the U.S. makes up 40% of the population. Catholicism makes up 20% of the population. Atheist make up a whopping 3% of the population. That is hardly "mainstream" or "the crowd". In fact, "the crowd" as far as the U.S. is concerned would be Christianity generally or Protestantism specifically.
      Further, historically, religious societies have largely been famous for ostracizing or executing non-believers, or believers of other faiths. So, it is just as likely for a religious person to be expressing faith in order to fit in or avoid ostracism. Whatever the merits of your arguments about Atheism may be, by advertising yourself with mere resentment and ad hominem, you do little to persuade me that your ideas are worth my precious and limited time. Were I interested in exploring the subject, I would prefer to be consider the viewpoints of a more objective and sincere proponent of religion.

    Regarding the end of the video. As great of a monarch Isabella was, it was in fact her husband, Ferdinand II the king of Aragon who lead and won the war against the Muslims. He was a quite skilled warrior king and a veteran of many battles against the French both on the borders with Aragon but also in the Italian wars as well as against the Portugese and Castellan nobles trying to oust Isabella in the civil war to install Beltraneja in Isabella's place. Isabella was a really competent monarch though and I believe the pair are the most successful monarchs in European history.

      @jonb3150 3 года назад

      @@FlashPointHx Well she was basically busy with child birth at this point in time. Before that she had achieved massively much by securing the throne as queen, rather than a queen consort, squashing the power of the nobles and the war against Portugal not to mention quelling the ambitions of her husband to become King of Castille. These were no small feats to achieve. The Kings before her were totally under the control of the nobles. Of course she had good allies with her in her husband, powerful political ally in Carillo the archbishop of Toledo and the great General Cordoba.
      She never really united Aragon and Castille as Aragon would never accept her as anything more than a queen consort and were suspicious and tired of using Aragon resources to constantly help out Castille. Aragon and Castille really united when Charles V, her grandson, came to power. And the age of discovery happend right after the reconqista.

Unified Spain and reduced the power of the Nobles, defeated Muslims and conquered Granada. Defeated France many times. toook chunks of land Defeated and conquered Navarre, Defeated and detained Cesar Borgia, Defeated Portugal, Conquered half Italy, submitted the north of Africa, Conquered the canary Islands. Fixed the ruined economy of Spain. Discovered ans started conquering, America. Created the Leyes de Indias Created global tradem the first international bill of right abolishing slavery in America. Wonder why english-speaking historians use the latinized form for some of the spanish names such as "Isabella", instead of "Isabel", which was her actual name in spanish/castillian, while, in other cases such as "Sancho", they keep the original spanish, and in others such as "Alphonso" they respect the spanish pronunciation but change the spelling (in spanish it would be "Alfonso" not "Alphonso").
    I'ts not a big deal, but as spanish speaker it kind of feel weird and inconsistent, and I was wondering what was the reason behind it.

      It makes sense for some names. There is English name Isabella, but not English name Sancho. So they translated Isabel because they could, but left Sancho because there is nothing to translate to. As for Alfonso, I have no idea. Think of it how names Charles and Peter are always translated, but not Louis or Fredrick.
