The only gripe I have with this reel is the weight, but that goes with the size of the reel ruclips.net/user/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . I brought this salmon fishing up in Oswego, NY. I coupled it with a Cabela's Whuppin Stick. I had no problem pulling in a 14lb salmon. I will probably use this for surf fishing this summer and downgrade to a 3500 series Battle II next salmon season to save my wrists. All of the operations are butter smooth and the bail is nice and thick and has a solid flip to it. Everything about this reel is sturdy and strong. The drag system held up to the salmon and was also super smooth. I did use a scale to set the drag properly before going out to the river and this worked out tremendously. A bunch of other guys on the river would hook up and snap almost immediately. Just because you have a good drag system doesn't do anything if you don't set it correctly.
this is actually a old thing living here my whole life it's something that just happens I love the fishing here if anyone is in the saint Petersburg/Tampa Bay area a great place for this type of grouper fishing you can do from shore is Pasa grill flip shrimp/greenbacks under docks and near the sea wall :) just helpful tip
If you've never fished for grouper you wouldn't understand. There is a reason they're using 80 pound braid for 10 pound fish lol. You don't casually reel in groupers.
great video ! I did similar fishing with the ugly stick lite on 8/10 pound groupers and they each took me almost 5-10 minutes each to land, lots of fun
Can u share what type of chum u use to get bait? I am new at fishing n would live to learn how to make chum. Thank u for sharing your videos! I enjoy them inmensly!
Go buy a Fin Nor ( $117.00). Stainless steel gears and a better drag systems than these over priced Penns. Fin Nor Offshore 7500 + 60 lbs drag compared to these 40 lb drag Penns.
Ive lived in clearwater st.pete for years and never knew this!! Though ive seen several guys have their 'standard sized' pier fishing rods snapped in half by unknown fish. ive seen big king fish in marina's as well zipping by, so its not just grouper. Its also possible the grouper are coming inland to spawn, since inland serve as a nursery for a lot of fish species including sharks.
Some people can get kinda mad if you get too close to a fishing pier, and I know because one person threw one of their dead pilchards at our boat. Be extremely careful.
yes you can. I live on ther gulf coast near ft myers and ive taken my yak out 100 yrds from the beach, found some structure on bottom and caught keeper reds and gags in less than 10 ft of water
وسابي The idea behind grouper fishing is not to wear them out with your drag but show them who the real man is and pull them out of that hole you found them it. There is nothing graceful about this fishing it's basically 5 minutes of you fighting an aquatic Tasmanian devil

I loved George's "OK" after he missed that hook set on the first cast.
This will forever be my favorite RTFS episode.

PuertoRicoMiOrgullo Jack Mackeral and Purina tropical fish food mixed
+ReelTimeFS where is this?????
Good fishin buddy! Reminds me of how we fish for inshore Calico, sand, and spotted bass on the west coast of CA.
In Bradenton Florida, I have a great Tarpon spot that my Dad and I have found. We have also pulled Red's and Snook out of the same spot!
Where?
Wish I had me a couple of Penn Torque's. A bit out of the budget.
Go buy a Fin Nor ( $117.00). Stainless steel gears and a better drag systems than these over priced Penns. Fin Nor Offshore 7500 + 60 lbs drag compared to these 40 lb drag Penns.
Michael C yesir that’s wat use only Finn nors
Dude I fished, under the same bridge, the grouper there is amazing man.
Bullshit

It is amazing how powerful a fish that size is.
This is definitely new and unheard of. This is a great episode and the guest is very humble. Wonder if this happens on the east coast?
dammmm! sounds like a whole lot of fun. grouper taste awesome. wish i was there
this guy is hilarious the way he fishes lol
300,000+ people saw Stuart's gym grouper bite and now know about it, if I was Stuart I would be mad
Jem
i like this show a lot.
that fight is intense looks like a blast
This is an awesome video! I would love to be there too.
I heard a Rolland Martin "SON!" during that grouper fight.
known about this for years guys but great video
Some people can get kinda mad if you get too close to a fishing pier, and I know because one person threw one of their dead pilchards at our boat. Be extremely careful.
Still an incredible video anyways! I love catching those gag grouper.
And that's why you carry
You mention the reel and line you're using but what about the rod? Great video. Thank you.
Now that was a heck of a bite!
Never rode in the 17 but the 24 rides great.
holy shit man.... this is unbelievable, I cant wait to move back to florida.
Zac L. Yuggfdggfgggk
nice. I've known about the groupers in St.Petersburg for awhile. I've caught a few myself. 22 to 27 in range.
God this looks so fun. I wish we had stuff like this inland.
just amazing!
I am going out now! thanks for sharing.
What type of rod are you using? do you have a good recommendation for a 3 piece rod that will hold up to these fish? Thanks.
up here in the NE strong blackfish will destroy anything that's not a 1 piece thats what id go with for grouper but not sure
When do new video's get posted to RUclips? Just found your vids and I'm all caught up. Need more! =)
Why J hooks? I thought west coast fishing was always with Circle hooks.
They were circle hooks, he just said J-hooks though
Awesome! looks like bass fishing!
Great episode
God I love this video
In stead of tourqs you should use shimano twin power it has 55 pounds of drag
kid of the same thing in Port Charlotte Fl. with the Grouper and Jew fish, big bait, big rods and line and big fish!!!
Awsome fishing,I love it,
New reason to throw lead weights at the boats now my doc my grouper

That looks like so much fun! It's like flipping for bass!
And I go thirty miles offshore to catch grouper like this..........
Lol they are pretty good great growth i
yes you can. I live on ther gulf coast near ft myers and ive taken my yak out 100 yrds from the beach, found some structure on bottom and caught keeper reds and gags in less than 10 ft of water

Lol we do the same thing in englewood fl by stump pass marina by the rocks
Beautiful Fish
ReelTimeFS how can I contact Stuart Davis, aka phsyco snooker?
saltylifer the internet guy
There are several giant groupers in and around the docks in Okinawa, Japan, have you done a show from there?
What were you guys chumming with to bring in the pilchards?
He grunts so funnily
Do you think these fish would also occupy these kinds of docks but in Sarasota, Florida?
Hey I have a question! Those who live in North Carolina near Morehead, can they still catch grouper this way?
Sadly not
Excellent video.. good catch.. i would just catch one a week!!
What kind of rod where u using
You guys are so freaking cool. Had a chance to do an interview with you guys and missed it for texas gator trout fishing
I was wondering what reels are you using in the video
how deep of water were you guys fishing in? and what kind of structure was under the docks that you were fishing at?
J hooks are illegal for reef species in the area use only circle hooks.
damnit that was a sick show
Thank you!
Big grouper out there. What kind of hooks do you use
where is this fishing spot?? it is awesome...anyboby knows??
That's Awesome!
So do you still need a leader because isn't that the invisi-braid?
No circular hooks? J-Hooks for this type of fishing?
Sweet Episode! Amazing like always!
Maybe next time you could take me cause i live in Tampa
try wacky worming those docks. you will love it.
this isn't bass fishing...
no shit
Just when I thought someone couldn't get stupider....
just seems they are so aggressive that a person could throw some weightless plastics and have a ball. BASS OR NOT....
salt water guys are like that, they just dont realize that what they are doing is free lunch fishing, those fish would hit a freakin hot dog.
All the music is provided by Fresh Catch.
Awesome video but are the sound effects necessary.
That was perfect!
I see you guys strike the bites, with circle hooks?
He also sounds as if he's taking a large bowel movement every time he hooks one.
80lb test line and the fish break's it? Well this grouper has our SOCAL 10 and 12 lb large mouth bass beat!
Are the grouper by those docks right now
were you guys over by Pinellas bayway?
you must not have seen the line snap around the 7 min mark.....so half the strength would work?
Why would you set the drag to maximum! And that even caused your line to break!
وسابي The idea behind grouper fishing is not to wear them out with your drag but show them who the real man is and pull them out of that hole you found them it. There is nothing graceful about this fishing it's basically 5 minutes of you fighting an aquatic Tasmanian devil
the fishing will pull you into the barnacle covered peir legs, which will cut off. so you need to horse them out in order to land it.
Major googan
kool its like saltwater bass fishing wouldnt a baitcast be better???
Where was u fishing at i never caught a grouper before so dat will be a good experience 4 Me
nice episode!
