How totally fascinating! I'd love to hear how your approaches to the violin differed. I knew Szeryng well and attended both his and Milstein's master classes. One really walked away with quite a different viewpoint -- a "don't think, just play" attitude after two weeks with Milstein in Zurich, and a much more cerebral and deliberate attitude after three weeks with Szeryng in Geneva. Since Milstein's class was earlier in the summer, you really had to change your playing if you didn't want to run afoul of Szeryng.
Earlier I was listening to Oistrakh and now this one. Here there is more tonal beauty and he has more to say, it seems. One eagerly anticipates the next moment and it is drama unfolding. Phrasing is superlatively good. He seems a thinking musician with immence talent. To be fair, sound quality is not that good in Oistrakh's case.

My wife's teacher's teacher was Szeryng, while my teacher's teacher was Milstein. It has been fascinating, these past 39 years. Hoomeyow!!
