This breakdown of how sports specific vs hypertrophy specific training differs I think is HUGELY valuable. Thank you for expounding on this topic!
It's finally sinking in, stretching is done during the lift.
It's counter intuitive to what your body knows makes you as efficient as possible, so you have to fight that to make it HARDER not more efficient.
Thank you Dr Mike!
Dr. Mike’s voice in this video sounds like an alien replaced him
He almost sounds somber in this clip.
That's because he's explaining how to train for something other than hypertrophy which grates against every fiber of his being.
Be fascinated to hear your take on the X3 band system and associated beliefs! 👍🏼
I think it'd be cool if you did a series that was focused on optimal sports training for each sport. (Or at least the most important one, baseball lol)
Pushups it is all about the quality of the reps.I don’t do banded? But I do them every workout.2 sets of 25,straight into high planks.I hold it at the bottom as close to the floor as I can get,at the very end.I hold it until I can’t.Killer.And I have gained TONS of strength.💪🏻
You are strong.
I believe the goal is slightly different but both are valid training methods. Btw 2 sets of 25 is super impressive upper body strenght for a woman.
Nevermind the first comment. I checked your profile and I am more then impressed😂 I hope I can be half as fit as you at that age.
POWER!

I think banded push-ups would be really good for amateur wrestlers. They could really help develop that explosive strength that the wrestler needs to effectively work out from the bottom on the stomach and set up a reversal. Really cool - thanks.
At this point, why not just do a bench press?
I mean.. you do. Deficit push-ups are typically a finisher after if needed. They've done it in plenty of videos.
For the increased difficulty as you move further into the movement. Same with adding chains that hang to the ground for a bench.
Both are good for athletic performance and strength, less so for pure hypertrophy or pure power lifting. Only useful for sports and combat.
Explosive bench press sounds good.
No
They also lack loots of scapula related muscles that you target by doing push up
Or with weight vest?
I would love to see a video specifically dedicated to sports-athleticism training instead of hypertrophy
They certainly exist if you look for them. For baseball check out Summers Method.
Is he talking hands off the ground explosive or just to like full arm extension?
Banded push ups only make sense for power/speed, as accommodated resistance.
Hey man, what's the way to train for strenth while being skinny
I mean don't gain weight and be strong imagine magnus the climber
You can't not gain weight if you want any real progress. Gain weight, get strong, burn it off.
@SSchizo think about climbers, they are exteremly strong yet not too much muscle !
How do they do that?
@@saeidqanei4935 Keep your reps low, 5 reps would build a bit of muscle, go more towards sets of 3 and maybe lighter to really improve on only strength. Also keep cardio in post workout, that helps to decrease gains. Don't be in a calorie surplus at all, keep calories at maintenance so you can't gain weight. Sometimes for strength, especially grip for rock climbing, isometrics over long durations of time like just holding a heavy barbell in a locked out deadlift position for a minute can be really good for training the musculature for climbing.
@saeidqanei4935 in much the same fashion as a power lifter. Eat well, rest well, and hit intention specific exercises for low reps, high resistance. Magnus has a very focussed aim, in that he's a boulderer for 90% of his climbing. Raw power, low to mid endurance, and from what i've seen, the majority of his training is calisthenics based.
Structure your exercises around movements as close to your sport as possible, and keep your diet clean, you'll still get heavier, just not by a lot.
I dont see the benefit of banded vs weighted push ups.
Banded seems like much more of a hassle, for basically the same results. 🤷🏼
The resistance increases through the motion with a band, it does not with a weighted pushup.
Different tone in dis short.
