With the current build of the game, I've noticed that there's a ton of inconsistency with the Mettle node when it comes to this staff. The only time I'm seeing the buff apply is if the hit immediately following the left-click is a crit; any subsequent crits from a continuous charged attack do not apply the buff. This is completely different behavior when compared to a gun which refreshes the buff for every crit (as you'd expect). And yes, if the buff doesn't apply, you also do not get any toughness back. This could be a bug, or perhaps it could be balancing choice since the flame is impacting many more enemies than most guns can.
This is a bug from a fix that they made due to left click quell cancelling gamers because every target cleaved by the primary gave a stack and toughness back when it crit so instead of getting a full toughness bar from a single left click they made it so it only hits once per left click. This probably nerfed right click with spaghetti code so it can only happen once on the first target hit during a right click which is sad.
I feel so vindicated. I've been a purg staff enthusiast since day one (i even named my psyker Charizard before i ever even used the purg staff because it just looked so cool in the gameplay teaser videos) and have heard so many people say its just a worse version of the trauma staff with the fire on crits blessing and those 2 fire spreading nodes. So I was feeleing kinda lacking, coz everething exept horde was dropping way faster than I can do meaningfull damage to them.
Hey Tanner. Please think about the way you use stims and build uncanny. If you put max stacks on the enemy, then use your ult and then use stim or build uncanny, the enemies are overstacked and at the time you are done stacking, the enemies have the same soulblaze count as in your example. So you gain the dmg your soulblaze did overstacked, where in your way you stack soulblaze to max, let it run down as you build uncanny and then stacknit to max or a bit higher again. I hope you can follow my thoughts there 😅
If you use the vent to push it over the soulblaze cap, can you keep flaming them with the staff or will it bring the cap of soul blaze back down to the normal cap before the vent?
Brain Burst is a bad blitz because of teammates having 2 braincells. 90% of the time even on highest difficulties, you'll be charging a BB on a special or elite and a teammate will kill it himself, leadind to a loss of time and DPS for you.
People always tell me that assail can kill snipers when I talk about brain burst but they fail to realize that assail has limited range and doesnt lock onto enemies like bb does. I can jump over a horde, lock on with bb, kill the sniper, and then go right back to killing enemies with purgatus. You are not killing a sniper with assail thats not pinged thats like 70 meters away in some obscure ass place on the map but brain burst doesnt care where they are. You also run into the problem of throwing an assail charge at something and not killing it but the enemy has moved and now you dont have los and in that sense its like baby brain burst without the lock on. People truly have no clue how useful brain burst is and there are many times in games where all im doing is managing snipers or various other threats at range with bb and because it has uimited range nothing can stop you.

This is awesome. Just started playing on PS5 release and was not really liking psyker until I found your first video on this staff. Is there a reason to keep warp resistance so low, or is it just a resource management thing? I get how the bars work stat-wise, just unsure of the reason for keeping warp resist low. Edit: Thanks for the replies, all of you helped clear it up! I even managed to craft a single digit warp res with just a few tries!
You keep it low because the staff is takes ages to build peril otherwise. You'll vent, and by the the time you get your next vent back you'll be at 70%, or worse you get it back in like 3 seconds and dump most of your peril and have to actively build it back up
Warp Resistance being low allows you to build Peril very quickly. Psyker recovers toughness from both generating and quelling Peril, plus you are granted various benefits for being at high Peril (up to 20% More Damage from Warp Rider, 33% Toughness Damage Reduction from One with the Warp, Crit from blessing, etc) so it's just generally nice to be able to build that up quickly and maintain it at that high level primarily through Venting Shriek.
Well now that the ranged problem has been solved, i see no reason not to run this. I might need the mod to not have the flames blind me, rip my team mates though
Please can you tell me if and why my similar purg build is inferior? Purg: Flak, Crit, Warp Nexus, Blaze Away. Knife: Carapace, Crit, Flesh Tearer, Uncanny. Remove: Soul Stealer, Warp Expenditure, Seer's Presense, Empathic Evasion, Essense Harvest, Warp Battery. Add: TDR, +10 Attack Speed, Souldrinker, Prescience, +5 Crit Chance Boost, +15 Toughness Boost. My overall thinking was that I can reach max stacks quicker with +10 crit (also riposte not required for knife) whilst generating more toughness with Mettle along with Souldrinker so Soul Stealer and Warp Expenditure not necessary. I don't feel warp expenditure does much with purg as you're at 100% peril alot of the time. I also don't rate Warp Bettery that much as it's only 8% extra dmg (but good for inner tranquility), extra crit just seems better? I know I have to take +5 TDR but at least if I take +15 Toughness Boost it scales even better.
You picked just so many awful modes like giving up seers presence makes this worse off the bat and not empathic evasion? That's insane near constant gunner immunity is broken. I'm not even gonna touch the other stuff since just those 2 changes have gimped it
After testing this I'm not seeing any great benefit to being over 75% vs being at, say between 50% and 75%. So getting to 75% in one cast vs two doesn't feel like much benefit. The difference in crit rates and toughness damage reduction feel negligible to me and rending at high peril just doesn't factor at all. I'm not personally able to create a scenario in game where I can shriek between every cast and the low peril resist staff just makes me manually quell more often and only slows down my dps whereas a high peril resist staff with empyric resolve keeps me casting much more consistently without needing to vent. The direct damage ticks from the secondary charged attack kill everything but crushers much faster and more efficiently than the dots do. Like, the staff has all the things dead that it is efficient at killing long before the stacked dots can be useful. What am I missing? Maybe it's the crusher thing but I just don't see the dots stacking reliably and by the time you get the stacks of rending placed on a crusher ro make the dot effective you can just have the thing dead. Are the rending stacks you're putting on one crusher getting applied to the dots on the others? EDIT: Don't get me wrong, the staff is great and has largely been slept on for a long time. Just not seeing the low warp resistance benefit.
Why not use one more node from brain burst that triggers brain bursts with 10% chance on hit to elites and monsters? With the amount hits flame staff does, i had many times when it I cleared packs of crushers and maulers extremely fast because they all got brain damage, it's basically guaranteed on them, very often on gunners, shotgunners.

I'm not even gonna touch the other stuff since just those 2 changes have gimped it
@@TannerLindberg Ok I'll swap Prescience for Seer's Presence and 15 toughness for Empathic Evasion. Thanks.
purge left spam = be gone poxbomber!
How big fov
Mods
I didn’t understand how having low level quell speed is helping can you explain this
It just doesn't matter 10% quell speed is like 10 frames of difference you can't notice it
@ ok but having it Upgraded anyway is no a mistake then ?
@@theooprs Upgraded quell speed isnt bad, but you dont want to upgrade more than necessary because you want warp resistance to stay low.
Fuming, I will see so many other Purge staffs.
But they won't be good, sad
@avalokiteshvara113 if I see more than one Psyker in a match I write it off as a just for fun failthrough
guh?
Why not use one more node from brain burst that triggers brain bursts with 10% chance on hit to elites and monsters? With the amount hits flame staff does, i had many times when it I cleared packs of crushers and maulers extremely fast because they all got brain damage, it's basically guaranteed on them, very often on gunners, shotgunners.
15 second cooldown
Only happens every 15s wow huge
I'm so happy to see this build getting deep dive Tanner! ty 🤍
