Helidon 4 became the world’s first web framework by design based on Virtual threads - one of the major game changers in the industry! Virtual Threads, first in research Project Loom and now as a production feature in Java 21, dramatically change the resource usage in the JVM, allowing performance to be achieved compared to reactive engines, but with a fully blocking paradigm. In this talk, I will tell you the story of Helidon Web Server - what the problems and solutions were, what tasks it was designed to work on, and why it has changed the world of microservices frameworks.
