Good review! When possible, can you guys review the 2019 Subaru Ascent which is a major Volkswagen Atlas competitor?
Thanks!
Those front headlights are freaky. It appears as though a low resolution image of old headlights was photochopped onto the front end.
What was your average fuel consumption for the VR6 Atlas?
@@daarshanik1114 they're making this for a north American audience, and said audience pronounces it with a V. No need to be a snowflake

@@cartmann227 Perfect kids.
Part of what makes you guys such good reviewers is that you make reviews for cars like this almost as fun to watch as your expensive/super car reviews
Mitchell Thurner I actually find the videos they make on these types of cars more entertaining because they highlight the small details on cheaper vehicles so well. I can’t really relate to the feeling of driving a McLaren, although I can relate to the feeling of driving an suv or a sedan.
"Once we have kids..." fast forward to 2023, look at all of your progress. Congrats guys. Thanks for all of the entertaining content over the years.
Out of the 50 or so channels I sub to nothing gets me more pumped than a new STRAIGHT PIPES video! On a sinking ship? CLICK! Riding a horse? CLICK! In WWII trenches getting shot at?! CLICK!
Yuri was a bit negative in this video? Then I found out he drives an Element. 😂
Now he drive a Prowler
Wow that explains a lot
I just bought a 2019 Atlas from CarMax three days ago. We traded in a 2012 Tahoe for it. We needed a third row since we have three kids and a mother in law. I love the Atlas so far! I’m catching up on old reviews to learn more about the vehicle, and I loved your video!
We are in the same situation - 3rd kid coming this April, so we are cross shopping the mid-size 3-rows (no full size SUVs for my wife, too beau coup). 4 years later, and NONE of the competitors can match the usefulness of the second row tilt-mech. It is what made the decision for me to drop my cross-shopping; just need to find a well-priced SEL Premium now.
I went from a Tahoe to an Atlas and have no regrets. The Atlas is awesome.
I drive an Atlas and I love it. The 3rd row and backseat are so roomy.
I bought my Atlas SEL R-Line about 3 months ago. Agree with all the points you guys bring up. I have 2 kids and this is my daily driver. I wouldnt trade it for any other comparable 3-row out there. And I test drove them all. Love this car!!!
Hey! Does ur SEL have the park pilot or just the premium?
ayo30s didn’t look like this got answered. That’s an sel premium feature. It worked really well at the dealership backing into a spot. Didn’t parallel park test it. Got the SE w/ Tech R Line bc we really didn’t need or want to pay for the SEL/SEL premium stuff.
I wish the discovery wasn't a land rover, we just picked one up and waiting on delivery from auction for a great deal, were shopping for a q7 but this will do in a pinch while rates suck, captains seats are rad and this seems like the most practical 7 seater for travel sports I just imported a 7 seater Nissan patrol 4.5 manual transmission which is getting boosted so I'll probably be taking over on the fun trips haha.
We have two babies under two. I traded in my Golf R for this. Looking at its competition, I ignored the Pilot and Highlander. There are too many of them on the road, and I don’t like the interior and exterior designs of these crossovers. I love the Atlas’ “rugged” exterior as well as intuitive and functional interior design. But more importantly, this offered a ton of cargo space which was a big priority for us. All in all, very happy with our big SUV
Great to hear!!
We traded a 2016 Highlander forr a 2018 Highlander hybrid recently. The fuel economy is more than worth it for city driving. Our 2018 Tiguan (which is identitcal to your Atlas except size) definitely feels newer/higher quality due to the cameras, infotainement and security features. Slap a hybrid on it and we'd grab it asap. That said the Highlander is due for a refresh in 2020 so keeping an eye on that!
Why not the Ascent though?
Did you check out the Durango as well before getting the Atlas?
@@davidn5861 not thoroughly. Partly because I try to stay away from any Dodge products. I'm personally not a fan of their design nor quality. I could've spent a little more and got a Durango SRT, but at the end of the day, I needed a three-row SUV because I'm hauling my family. If I've learned anything as a car enthusiast, no matter what you drive, most of the time, your passengers will always complain about how fast you're going. So, while driving dynamics was a factor, power was not a high priority.
Yuri be hitting us with those prequel memes
Didn’t yoda say that in the sequels?
TheStraightPipes Yeah when Yuri was going through his Jedi training
I own an atlas and I chose it with the VR6. from all the research I’ve done the VR6 is made to go well passed 250k miles it has more then enough power for a family hauler and the transmission is pretty smooth as well. Not the best on mpg’s but getting a vehicle of this size with a 5,000+ tow rating I wasn’t to worried about that.
I just drove this car and really liked it. I thought I was dead set on a pilot, but drove that one yesterday and it felt small in comparison. They are all similar on paper but the big moonroof, 3rd row access with Car seat still in and overall cabin room/cargo room make it a surprisingly tough car to beat in this class.
Yuri, my man.... Where's the energy?!
Somebody get this man a shot of adrenaline!
Derek Barbour you wanted SUVs you got SUVs!
I think he’s just sick
I think he was hitting the bottle too hard last night. Hung over + not a sports car = Yuri crapping all over the atlas
He had a decaf at Timmy's that morning.
Mike Nikkel it’s just not that exciting. To me.
You two sound so enthusiastic about this one, almost fall asleep watching the vid. Something that's never happened before - Roger roger!
As a loser, I love to see reviews of ‘normal’ cars. It’s valuable consumer information, y’all! I appreciate Jakub’s optimism in the review.
Yeah J was so hyped about this car
We shopped both the Tiguan and the Atlas.
With it's 5+2 configuration, the Tiguan was handy. It's essentially a Passat in SUV form.
The must have for me was LED headlights. That meant, the very top package. Full stop. It put the price at $41k US dollars. It's a nice looking SUV, though underpowered and not as roomy with 3 kids.
At that point we started looking more at the Atlas. It checked all the boxes, including the LED headlights, full 7 seater, towing capacity, more cargo space, and the meatier 3.6L engine. For $2k more than the Tiguan, we settled on the Atlas SE w/tech, R Line, 4 motion. The Tiguan 2L engine made it a dog. I can't imagine fully loaded, with all 5 of us, plus gear. No serious tuning options as of yet. They haven't cracked the computer last I checked.
The Atlas had plenty of passing power, and all of the essentials.
We pick it up next week, and my wife gets her first Brand new car since we've been married. We always bought used to save the initial depreciation hit, but with the 6 year bumper to bumper warranty, it clinched it for her, and by default me. Happy wife, happy life, right?
This will be our 4th VW, and we've owned 3 Audis. Living that check engine light life.
How's it holding up one year later?
@@MultiDarkstar21 working great. Only 1 issue, a sticking door latch was replaced in a couple hours. Other than that it's been problem free. It's been a good family car.
We bought a 2018 Tiguan SE AWD last October... Reason is that my head will hit the door frame for MOST cars. The 2018 Tiguan SE AWD allows me avoid head damage! The Atlas 2018-2019 have even MORE head room on the door frame!!! We may also get one too.
Great review. Went with the Atlas. Why? Traded by 2015 GTI that I bought new and put 141.000 miles on it with only oil changes and 2 sets of tires...oh yea, and a battery. THE most dependable care I've ever owned ( out of 32). Impressed with the V6 and the ride comfort especially since it is over 2 tons. It is actually for my wife to drive, I"m taking the i3 as my principle driver for a while. Thanks again.
Have one in my garage guys. Trust me, once you have kids you will understand how amazing this thing is. Excellent review. Agree on the 360 camera
The 3 row SUV is a game changer once you have kids. I bought a Ford Flex when I had my first and when the lease is up we are considering an Atlas as it seems like everything you want in a 3 row suv
Probably something to pay attention to next time reviewing another VW, I noticed my GTI's blind spot checker is not a passive, unlike the ones on Mercedes that lights up even when you creep by a news stand, mine does not trigger for these scenarios
- low speed creeping, like in parking lot
- power take someone slow on highway
another cool thing I noticed, it is speed sensitive, like in these scenarios
- if I am sitting still in traffic, the lane beside me is clear, a car comes by real fast, the checker light comes on way quicker, like 3-4 car distances before the other car arrive my blind spot
- if I have similar speed with the other car, checker light only come on when the other car is precisely in my blind spot area
nice little touch by the software team...
I've been waiting for this review for some time now, since it is on the list for my next choice. You hit all the points I wanted to hear and said exactly what I have already thought about the Atlas. I think VW nailed it with this vehicle. Looks good, practical and it has a lot of room. Great review again guys!
My wife and I just bought a 19' Atlas, because of the room, and actually chose it over the explorer! I'm 6'7" and fit in it perfectly, I had an F150, I feel as though I didn't lose any room in the cabin.
Atlas is such a cool name for a vehicle

As usual awesome review guy's!!! We went the Atlas over the Tiguan because my wife told me that size does in fact matter
I've had one since May. Traded in a Q5 because we needed more cargo/baby space for long road trips. Zero complaints. Thus far, one of the better cars I've owned. CX-9 was the nearest competition but the space in the VW won out. Virginia, USA.
Y: ...Once we have kids
J: Yeah
Y: Not with each other 😂😂😂😂
The best thing about VWs is the little smart things all over the cars, just like those velcro strap and car seats. My Golfs Lowering and raising trunk floor, the telescoping/variable height centre arm rest, and the huge door storage spaces with fabric so loose items don't roll all over the place. Small things that really add up.
8:33 peasant blockers...BABYSHADES!!! rofl See it's your guys sense of humor that makes these great! Keep it up, you're doing great.
Yeah y’all got my sub. Needed car info but y’all breakdown / convo & chemistry was fire 🤌🏾
Thanks 🙏
Just went to a nearby Volkswagen Dealer and the price was a lot more than that. 3 packages down from executive was 46k so the atlas you were driving was probably more like 50k in USD.
Dealers usually include, amongst other things, documentation fees and preparation fees...also the 51K price may not include freight and PDI which is about $2k as well. Your dealer could have just marked it up as well lol
Pricing usually starts around 32k USD and up to about 51-54k USD
We got the 2018 tiguan r line sel. It has a lot of room for what we need. The third row is tight but it's there for kids. The interior is the same as the atlas but with the r line you get a black interior roof. Also saved about 7k from the atlas.
This reminds me of a ford explorer just with a vw twist exterior. VW always does great features that increase the ease of the livability with the vehicle.
I bought a 2018 Atlas SE 4Motion with the Tech Package this year, after doing a thorough evaluation of a LOT of the competitors. As a dad with 2 kids, and another on the way, i needed to upgrade my people hauling but still want something that moves. It's colorado so 300+ days of sun and fun driving, the occasional mountain run needs to be possible, and some of those other days are going to be nasty, messy weather, and my car has to keep my family safe when I am doing that.
As a dad, the second row tilt seat is a much more killer feature than you see in the video. Any dad can tell you, getting a carseat in and out is AWFUL. The one note here is that without captains chair option, the split of the 2nd row is 60-40, so be strategic about where you put the rear facing carseat if you have one. The tilt option isn't enough to deal with the bulk of rear facing car seats. The chevy traverse I think is one of the only other cars out there with this feature and the new one sucked buckets. It was a slug. No way I am driving that.
Despite the lack of turbo (which I feel like is a REALLY stupid move on VW's behalf) the pickup and execution in sport is pretty decent. It will move. 9 seconds off the line to 60 is an eternity but in real life its enough to get me into traffic in almost any real situation that I should be rationally driving in.
The only other real weakpoints here - reliability. I have already had 3 shop visits for a car with less than 6k miles on it! One was an inital quality issue with one of the door weather strippers coming from dealer ripped. One was a bunch of factory software updates. One was a post-delivery mechanical issue with the heater box. Which unfortunately had the ENTIRE FREAKIN' DASH ripped apart and me in loaners for more than a week.
Highlander was a rough second row and the captains chair option was very expensive and felt chintzy. Also not much room behind the third row when it was up. Didnt pass the grocery test with my wife and I, despite stellar toyota resale and reliability.
The ford explorer felt like the plastic and felt chintzy piece that it is. Love some of the engine options, but just couldn't leave with the resale cliff and poor third row ergonomics and accessibility.
Test driving the CX-9 I could tell I would be happy with the pickup but unhappy with the car over the long haul. Quality issues were apparently pretty early. Talked to some local owners, only a couple would have bought again.
I still feel like I made the right decision - even with the early quality issues. If those go away after this first set of cycles, this will be a great purchase for our family.
Any updates? May be buying one tomorrow looking for real feedback.
@@kennyonufrock3382 I've had mine and still own it. I have a wife and 3 kids. It's got great capacity and versatility. The warranty has been great and when it comes to routine maintenance and mechanical reliability it's MOSTLY ok.
The engineering of the drivetrain is solid. The hvac uses a few poor composite choices which have required the whole dash taken apart and reassembled to.fix a ducting problem after one of the cheap plastics used in the flaps directing the air warped over less than the full first year.
I am a tech person, and have used the atlas with both android and apple. I like it but have really resented later model year improvements not being flashed to the 2018 Model Year atlas's.
I sat in one in the dealer lot, holy hell it's huge, it's as if the Atlas is a squarer minivan.
We own a 2018 Tiguan Highline. It's amazing how almost IDENTICAL they are inside and outside, even the rear-camera shenanigans are the same. Love the cockpit. Tiguan does the job honestly, from groceries to light trips, with alright fuel economy. Only issue is the engine sometimes lacks. But we have a Highlander to tow and for bigger roadtrips.
I just don’t understand why the LWB Tiguan exists for America. The Tiguan and the Atlas are too similar in my opinion. The normal sized Tiguan not only looks better, but I think would give Volkswagen more variation in their lineup in America.
Connor Olivardia we have the old generation Tiguan in the space of the SWB new one. The old one is honestly the worst vehicle in VW’s lineup rn, so outdated and the interior is horrible. They basically only give you the base model for it. No options available.
We have the Tiguan Gen1 4motion and are looking at the LWB. We only need the extra space for dog crates and the Atlas is significantly bigger, more expensive, and only comes with a VR6. Our APR tuned Gen1 makes more power than the Atlas at almost 1klbs less.
5seater vs 7seater?
@@mikebroom1866 how much horse power and torque does this Tiguan have?
@@Kareem-cx4fi Per APR (assuming no other mods) - 253HP and 292tq. A stage 1 flash makes the 2.0T come to life but I'm more comfortable with my VR6 Atlas since I don't want to worry about voiding any warranty by having an ECU flash. My '11 GTI has a Stage 2 setup and absolutely blows the doors off our Atlas though for what it's worth.
Thanks guys! Ended up buying one and loving it.
Hey can you guys do the Tiguan r line because my mom was thinking about getting it
Did she finally bought that one?
We have a Tiguan and it's riddled with problems. Shock absorbers had to be replaced and the gear box failed (we live in Europe and the North American Tiguan is sold as the Tiguan Allspace, and comes in a manual which is what we have) Other than those issues it looks amazing, the first and second rows are so spacious and the 3rd row is a direct violation of your human rights. The infotainment is very distracting and complicated. Boot space is more than enough when the 3rd row seats are down.
Great video guys! I'm a year in with my Atlas and I love it.
Just an awesome car!!!! My wife and I love our Atlas.
It's true that not many folks feel the need to drive all sporty in their three-row family hauler, but that makes it so much more impressive that vehicles like the Mazda CX-9 can put a little zoom-zoom into their grocery runs. Of course Jakub can't fit comfortably in the third row of a CX-9, so there's your trade-off.
adaptive cruise... amazing on the DVP :) adaptive cruise needs to be a standard feature.
In the US, fed regulations for 2019 require the reverse camera view pop up by default. You can switch to 360 afterwards but it has to start with reverse camera. I wonder if VW got lazy and applied the same software code for the US and Canada.
0:44 They don't sell the Touraeg in North America or ?
They stopped. VW isn't bringing the new Touraeg here.
ShroomWalrus not anymore. Canada anyways
It is not a touraeg successor. It is just a bigger and more luxery Tiguan for America
Vincentjr. Blount we sadly never bought as many Touaregs as they expected. Such a shame.
@@BeesonsCars even Europeans didn't I think 😅
Awesome review you guys the Atlas is a huge SUV with tons of space a comfortable interior, a nice design , decent power and towing numbers its a very good SUV
If for everything else, you guys in Canada use metric system, why do you guys refer to torque in lb. ft. And not NM
Ask Canada
Because North 'Murica
Very glad you guys reviewed this car. I went with the Tiguan in the end because I didn't really need the third row seats, but the Tiguan still had crazy amount of leg room still for the back seats. I think the Tiguan also looks better imo
Very thorough review, fellas. I like that you mentioned the Fender audio system, too. It's a huge vehicle and I'm thinking the yearly Canadian taxes must cost a pretty penny. Thumb's up as always.
I bought one four days ago and I'm still learning about all the features. I've been driving Isuzu Troopers since 1991 to 2002 and this was a big "technological" upgrade for me. For the price and 6 yr. warranty, it's the by far the best full sized SUV I found.
How does a 3,6L not even have 300HP?
Natural aspiration. It's probably tuned to be robust and last forever at the expense of specific output
My mum's Dodge Caravan has 280hp at 6400rpm. 3.6 liter FIAT V6.
We were shopping for an SUV and the ONLY reason we skipped the Atlas and went with the v6 3.5 EcoBoost twin turbo Ford Explorer was cause of the power and torque on the Ford. The Atlas has absolutely no power for a 2100kg SUV this should have come with the 3.0 twin turbo nothing less.
I have a feeling this was getting the 3.0 v6 TDI engine until it got banned in North America and they just took the VR6 and threw that in there.
@@wtfrofllolxd Ford, GM, Lexus, Nissan and FCA all make naturally aspirated v6's with more than 300hp.
@@wtfrofllolxd As an owner of an Atlas - this is the one thing that made me crazy when I was buying. I stared at the guy for a minute "what do you mean there is no turbo option on the v6?"
Excellent as per. Yuri has the same expression on his face as Jacob did during the BMW i3. I’m kinda dreading when you do the Jetta 😀
6:12 guess Yuri and Jakub aren't going to be too enthusiastic about practically any German car from now on
Mostly just VWs and Audis, maybe some Mercedes'. I think BMWs have mostly normal, non fake exhaust tips. And Porsche, obviously.
What would you guys prefer, an explorer or an atlas?
Yuri sounds the most unexcited ever xD
We ended up getting the top trim Tiguan here in Ottawa. The Atlas is more handsome bardown, but as a family of 3 + dog it felt excessive.
Tiguan has the same high quality interior, but the 2L turbo is slow with lackluster efficiency.
Overall happy with Tiguan (coming from a BRZ)
Hows the experience with the tiguan so far?
I'll keep my Touareg TDI (poor man's Cayenne). It's sportier, looks better, handling better, tows 7700lbs and I avg. 8.5L/100km in the city. Sad to see VW abandoned it in NA
The new one is coming back isn't it? Not sure about the diesel though.
I highly doubt it gets 8.5l in city
totoIV its a diesel
Ok....what next youre going to keep your muscle car instead of trading for a full size sedan?
@@t-bone9239 The routes I take in the city to work and home I average 8.5L. If I take a road that has a lot of stop and goes and lights then I'll do anywhere between 9.5L - 10.5L depending on how cold it is outside and how many stops I make.
I was deciding between the Tiguan and Atlas about 4 months ago. My wife had just had our baby and I wanted to fully embrace family life. I went with the 2018 Tiguan SEL. It's probably the slowest thing I've driven in my entire life and it makes me wish I went with the Atlas all the time... or at least got the R-Line package, so I could at least look fast to the unassuming lot out there despite me still driving a gutless crossover.
Keep checking in with APR to see if they will have their tune ready soon. They have been working at cracking the computer, to get a solid tune. They are good for at least 60 HP.
Neuspeed has a piggyback module that you can install yourself that adds about 30hp for sale now, if you need to scratch that itch immediately. Google will turn up results for you.
But yeah, you should have gotten the R line. They sell so fast, I don't know why they aren't just standard at this point.
It's a shame they dropped the Tourag aswell.. we only have Tiguan and Touraeg in norway.. not the atlas ofc.
I don’t like big SUVs much but I really like the ATLAS. I have not driven it, but have spent time exploring them. The fit and finish and styling is a homerun IMO. It is high on my ‘if I got a bigger vehicle’ list.
Isn't *TOUAREG* bigger than TIGUAN ,I think it is!! @TheStraightPipes
It is, but I think they don't have Touareg in Canada.
The Tourareg is dead. That’s whey they enlarged the Tiguan.
@@GSRider yes Touareg is bigger, but probably they don't have it in Canada if that is the case..
@@moehio It's not dead, they just don't sell it in NA anymore.
I got the Tiguan because I hate SUVs, but my wife wanted one. I test drove a few and the Tiguan felt the most like a hatchback. Also, in Sport mode, it has enough kick to be a fun drive.
But that gimped, underpowered engine though. Put a few grocery items or have a few people in it, and you're talking total slug.
“Not with each other” I spit out my ramen 😂
They have some stuff to talk about
Any idea why Canada got Atlas instead of Touareg? Touareg, in my opinion, is a bit nicer and posher but still bigger than Tiguan, and the Allspace model has 7 seats, if that's something people look for.
We have both
Can't stop laughing "Not with each other!" Regardless, a thoroughly covered review. Thanks.
Important to mention that if you get the R line package, even if you opted for the Execline, you loose the park assist, the motion activated trunk release and the 360 camera
Yeah ridiculous
I wish they would offer the Atlas in Germany. We just have the Touareg, which is a nice SUV and all, but that big ass Atlas is amazing. C'mon Wolfsburg!
Bishop but the new Touareg is so sexy looking!!!! Wish we could get it here in the U.S.
We want that new Touareg.. I've owned both and the Touareg with a 3rd row would be on another level
Wish the state's had the touareg still...miss mine, even tho I couldn't stand the repair prices...if I were head of vw I'd give you this 3 row SUV and take back the good old touareg...best SUV they ever made...my opinion.
I like how the front of this generation Atlas looks, the lights and grill are just right. Very nice that you can get this with a VR6.
nice review as usual... perfect car for towing too!!
You guys should do a head to head vehicle test where each of you drive a car and maybe switch halfway to determine which two similar cars are better in the same class based on a whole bunch of specs like price
We've done that a ton of times
VW lost its luster for me the day I turned in my Touareg TDI. The Atlas was awful to test drive & Yuri’s face showed exactly how I felt driving it.
The 2019 VW Atlas seems a bit cheap compared to the 2019 VW Touareg...
@@TassieLorenzo reason being they're VERY different in pricing. The Atlas is nice since it'll have a lot of features, decent interior, and the driver is pretty nice.
Brian touareg is not 120k in europe, at least in sweden
Brian with all the options yes. Most people dont tick all the boxes and just go for stuff they nerd/want like stereo and leather. Average price for new gen is listed at around 700k SEK which is a little under 80k usd, and that i msrp. Nobody buys cars at msrp so probably cheaper
Brian That’s not the starting price😒
Jakub mentioned the towing capacity as 5,000 lbs., yet they give the vehicle speed and interior cargo capacity under the metric system. I'm honestly curious how Canadians differentiate between the metric and US imperial weight system? Jakub (6'1 1/2") and Yuri (5'8") also give their height using the US imperial weight and measure system instead of the metric equivalent. Jakub's height should be 1.85m and Yuri's should be 1.72m. I just think it's interesting how they switch between centimeters/inches, meters/feet, liters/gallons, and KPH/MPH.
We live above America. That's why
Me: *hopes on to the third row and pulls up the head thingy*
The head thingy: General Kenobi!!!
The comment you made about the suit going up the bumper is the exact reason why they are getting rid of the exhaust pipes
My Wife and I were trying to decide between an Atlas and an Ascent. We had an Ascent for a weekend while her Touareg was in the shop. We liked it but then we priced out and test drove an Ascent. Optioning them out feature for feature, the Ascent was a little cheaper and a better-looking vehicle. We ended up leasing the Ascent. My wife absolutely loves it.
The Subaru infotainment looks like it's from 2005. Also no 360 camera and that CVT... oofta.
mct8888 the lack of 360 camera in the ascent is a real disappointment. I used it all the time. I also wish the ascent had more legroom for the 3rd row.
Better looking? No. Not even close. VW designs blow the doors off Subaru.
I always wait for you guys to come out with a review on a vehicle, your reviews are the most realistic and entertaining to watch. I actually just picked up an Atlas and it handles great and rides nice. Passing power is good on the highway, just wish it was a little bit faster, all in all I would definitely get the Atlas again.
In Germany we have besides the Tiguan the Touareg instead of the Atlas which is sizewise in the middle
We had Touareg too, didn't sell well so VW American sized it, and voila, VW Atlas.
Luca the new gen Toureg is really nice, wish we got it in the US, but too expensive it didn’t sell.
Didn't Volkswagen make the Tiguan bigger and get rid of the toureg in 2018 and now there is just the atlas and Tiguan? I drive a Tiguan myself. What are your thoughts?
www.volkswagen.de/de/models.html here you can find all models VW currently sells in Germany. Because of the new WLTP Test cycle, some models aren't shown or not configurable at the moment.
you can buy Atlas in europe too
I fully agree with you about the fake exhaust outlets. NO to fake exhausts and vents!!
I like the styling of the Atlas, the hard body line and thin panel gaps make it look upscale. But I don't like all the paint that you can see on the inside of the door window frames, that just looks cheap. VW needs to put some trim around the inside of those windows.
I on the other hand find this car to be HIDEOUS. Volkswagen design is always unimaginative but the sad mopey face of this thing is just miserable
@@motormusique Simplicty and clean lines arent your thing. Too bad.
We actually going to comment about the same thing, this car looks very upscale and luxurious from the outside, but the paint coming through is like a Honda Fit. 😑 But I guess they have to give you more incentives to spring for the Q7.
+moehio the side and rear is fine but it’s hard for something this massive to not look like a bus. It’s the face I have the main problem with. Yeah the lines are simple but they make a face that is simply dowdy! I really don’t like the expression it is making, kind of like a confused stoner with its mouth hanging open
Ive noticed that on most VW, on the bright side you know its quality paint, and you wont have to replace that piece of trim down the line
I love how in every vid there's that one sweet spot that makes hit the like button. For this one, it was the high-shake!
The only car VW makes that isn't available in Germany. 😔 We get the Van (T6) for more space or the Tuareg. But both are so damn expensive..
No one talks about the “rest” button when talking about the hvac. We got an Atlas and it is a pretty cool feature
Jackson Price I just bought 2019 SEL premium, but no one mentioned me about (rest) button, could you elaborate on this for me? Thank you!
Wei Zhou when it is cold, if you go into a store, after you turn the engine off, press the rest button and it allows the heat to stay on while you’re inside the store for up to 30 minutes, so when you come back after doing something the car is still warm. It’s pretty smart, and works well
Jackson Price thanks so much, it’s great!
Fun fact: On the moon the “moon roof” is called an “earth roof”
I might not heard right, but this vehicle wasn't the R line, but the SEL Premium. R line has the R line logo on the side fender.
Please review the Infiniti qx80
I actually like the amount of regular (non-sports) cars that are getting the Straight Pipes treatment lately.
Also Yuri's hair has seen a return to form (see most recent Android vs Apple) which is very important to me.
My hair?
@@TheStraightPipes Yes, like body lines and headlights. Important stuff.
I don't even like this car. But I love the channel. So I watched it just for u guys LOLL
My wife and I ended up buying a used 2020 Atlas CrossSport because we wanted the 5,000 pound towing capacity but didn't need the third row. Without the extra third row the thing is absurdly spacious. Probably the most legroom for backseat passengers I've seen on just about anything I've driven.

When will we see a little Jacub and a little Yuri?
C'mon guys, reproduce already. You two would be great dads and raise kids in a car culture environment.
@8:10. My 2011 Town & Country has those "little straps" to pull those seats back into place. And yep, they VELCRO to the seat. I'm considering a Atlas to replace our minivan but when the last kid is out of college, I'll downsize. Now, the minivan can't town the 5000lbs the atlas can but I have a 02 and 09 Jeep liberty that can. And, I doubt one could put 4x8 sheets of plywood in the back of this thing and close the hatch. IMO, there will never really be a replacement for the minivan but when your kids are all grown up, 3rd row or not, I'd like to see 7 people in a Atlas and luggage w/o strapping it on the top or a hitch carrier. Cool video. Enjoyed the humor.
I hope this comes to Australia!!
We recently got a Tiguan. Went with it as it is cheaper to buy and run. It’s main use was for commuting, so the 4 cylinder was the better option.
In case anyone cares. With obdeoeleven you can enable the feature "adaptive lane tracking".
That way the car actually keeps itself in the center of the lane like the Tesla system. But doesn't work quite as good around corners. It seems like a factory option that vw just took out last minute.
I did the change on my gti and now it's beautiful for long drives
Why is this not enabled by default?!
@@TheStraightPipes You know people are going to use it and crash, then sue VW.
So I've been thinking of enabling this on my R. In the current state i feel it twitch and intervene pretty frequently, does it get more invasive when you turn on adaptive lane tracking or is it tolerable?
@@TheStraightPipes probably out of fear of being sued for people not using the system correctly. VW doesn't really have the same reputation as Tesla. Doubt they'd get away with a few people dying from not using their system correctly
@@mbrunnme well. Right now it acts when you're near a line. It kinda ping pongs you between the white lines. But with adaptive lane tracking it intervenes more, but it kinda just keeps you in the middle. I prefer it tbh
VW fan here. So when my wife and I were shopping for an SUV for our family (two adults, 14 y/o daughter, big dog) earlier this year we looked seriously at both the Atlas and the Tiguan. The SUV is my wife's daily driver (I have a GTI) and the family's road trip vehicle so she had 3 votes to my two. (The kid got one vote and the dog got a half vote.)
As much as I wanted to like it, none of us was impressed with the Tiguan. Third row seating isn't a huge priority for us but it's very convenient occasionally when chauffeuring a gaggle of teenagers or going out with another family taking a single vehicle rather than two. The Tiguan's 3rd row option is a joke and not a very good joke. Further, the 2.0L turbo 4 banger in the Tiguan seemed sluggish when not driven in "sport" mode. (The AllTrack 1.8 liter mill felt "peppier.) All in all, the new Tiguan is a far more functional, less cramped, but less fun to drive vehicle than the previous version but it didn't thrill anyone (except the dog but he likes any vehicle as long as he gets to go.)
The Atlas certainly isn't "cramped." And if one needs comfortable seating for five or more adults on a regular basis, it's the best in class. A smooth naturally aspirated V6 with a good eight speed transmission that's well suited to the mission of this kind of vehicle. When we were shopping, though, the 2018 Atlas trim levels limited features such as leather seating and integrated navigation to the top trim SEL Premium. That pushed the MSRP to over $50,000 (USD). VW has apparently seen the error of their ways; the 2019 trim levels have been adjusted somewhat to provide a better value.
In our case, the Atlas was just too damn big. My wife complained that she felt like she was driving a bus. Ultimately, the KIA Sorento was a better fit for us, especially with the $8000 discount off MSRP we received.
Can't believe it's been so long and you guys (and all the other automotive youtubers who've complained about this) haven't yet figured out the "fake exhaust" issue is about conforming to new environmental guidelines for vehicle design now make manufacturers point the exhaust at the ground to limit airborne pollen like spread of carcinogenic particles.
Interesting. Can you pass along that article
optimusone1985 a photographer who works for Audi asked why they have fake exhausts and they stated that it was only because it’s cheaper
You say this, and yet I cannot find any source material to confirm these claims. Plus, if there were "new environmental guidelines," when do they come into effect and why haven't all automakers conformed yet?
Just an FYI - the adaptive cruise sensitivity can be adjusted between eco, normal and sport. My guess is you guys had it in sport hence it being a little to abrupt.
I enjoy this channel you guys have a lot of humor
Do you guys reckon that the resolution on the digital gauges is the same as on the main infotainment screen? I test drove a tiguan last year and the digital gauges were notably more pixelated. Wondering if they improved on this, thanks!
It's very clear on these
