    I love how you are with me at every stage!!! I was actually thinking about this very thing earlier today. It’s so funny I can leave the big door to my conure’s cage open and she will just sit and stare. The one time she did kind of fly out (and in to my chest) she flew right back in. I put a perch on the door as soon as you mentioned it. I’ll follow all the other steps over the coming days. Thank you!

    Hi Sophie, my male cockatiel has learned to step up by using the hand as an extension of the perch technique that you and David suggested. However, he is also cagebound and afraid to leave his cage. He has been allowing me to hold him in the doorway and even lets me take him out a little while he eats millet since he absolutely loves it. However I was anxious to get a photo of us together and the camera startled him and he flew off. Well he was very scared and immediately lost all interest in the millet. I did get him to step up eventually without the millet but he flew off again and landed on my bed. At this point, he started screaming and I thought he was injured since he doesn’t have experience flying. I was able to scoop him up into my hands and return him to his cage but he was screaming the entire time and immediately went to hide in the corner on the bottom of his cage. I am going to try a perch on the door to ease him out. I’m glad he is okay - I thought for sure he was injured after he let me scoop him up like that! We had quite the scare so I am trying to learn how to help him to get over this fear.

      Have you tried target training with him? You can then target him out of the cage which might make him feel more in control of the situation! 😊

    Sophie, You said something about birds being territorial with their cages, do you suggest changing where their food dishes are frequently??

      I don’t recommend moving food and water, but you can move toys and some perches 😊

    Sorry for asking too many questions but I have cupcake liners made of paper but the outside of the liners are a bit shiny are those still safe for birds ?

      You can ask as many questions as you like haha 😊 if avoid shiny ones and only use ones which are just matte paper!

    Hi! I just got a new cockatiel yesterday. It’s about 4-6 weeks old and he is weaned and eating fine. He has been sitting with his feathers puffed up most of the day not not really moving from his perch. The bird store clipped his wings so I know that might be stressful too. I’m worried he is sick. Is this normal behavior the first few days home?

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  Год назад

      I’d personally be concerned that the bird was weaned too early - the earliest they should be fully weaned is 8 weeks old! But saying that, coming to a new home is super stressful so a bird can find that very difficult to start with.

    hey sophie my birds have developed polyuria i think due to feeding them veggies everyday (i started a few weeks ago) and i’m really scared and i’m not sure what to do. do i feed less veggies and see if it helps?

    • @BirdNerdSophie
      @BirdNerdSophie  Год назад

      Sometimes there’s more water when feeding veggies - you can cut them out for 2 days and see if there’s a difference so you know what’s causing it!

    Hi I’m getting my cockatiel next week and I’ve noticed in your care guide that we need to buy a purifier I don’t mind the dust but do we have to get a purifier coz I’m not able to get one where we live they are very expensive and even more online

      They are pricey but 100% worth in it my opinion, for our health as well as the birds!

    I am hoping to get some answers here. I have 2 parakeets and brought a cockatiel home. They are all in the same room but in seperate Cages. I am trying to train my cockatiel, but I think I already messed up. He is more interested in them than me. If I remove him from the room for training, he goes crazy calling them and won't focus at all. I have not found a video explaining what you do for training when your new bird doesn't need to be quarantined and can be with your other birds right away. He comes right out so thats not a problem. The problem is getting him back in. Im so confused and feel like i am just messing it all up over and over. Please help.

    19.30 spanish time. Thanks . I think our beautiful lovebird was chased and traumatised by our petsitter trying to get her back into cage. That was 1 month ago. If I take the top of her cage off she will play and fly a bit, but nothing like before. She won't step up or fly onto my head or arm.😢poor darling. Otherwise she is chirpy and chatty. Thank you.
