  • RMS Carpathia was a Cunard Line transatlantic passenger steamship built by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson in their shipyard in Wallsend, England.
The Carpathia made her maiden voyage in 1903 from Liverpool to Boston, and continued on this route before being transferred to Mediterranean service in 1904. In April 1912, she became famous for rescuing survivors of the rival White Star Line's RMS Titanic after it struck an iceberg and sank in the North Atlantic Ocean. The Carpathia navigated the ice fields to arrive two hours after the Titanic had sunk, and the crew rescued 706 survivors from the ship's lifeboats.
The Carpathia was sunk during World War I on 17 July 1918 after being torpedoed three times by the German submarine U-55 off the southern Irish coast, with a loss of five crew members.
The name of the ship comes from the mountain range of the Carpathians in Eastern Europe.

@@benmiland5245a lot of people would disagree back in the day when you say “it’s just a ship or a metal object”. Probably every almost single Captain of the early 1900’s would disagree as well.
Ships were thought of as something alive, especially steamships. They kind of were, each had their own way of being an every day home and job to their crews.
Steamships were loved a lot more than the weird types of vessels that are built these days.

The sinking of the Carpathia, while a tragedy, did point out the fact that you should never use your boiler room to cook food, hotdogs in particular. The crew, while hungry, spent an hour cooking those hotdogs which had a negative effect on the ship's abilty to manage forward thrust in rough seas. Remember, always, when on a a ship, to respect the north winds when cooking in the boiler room. Several passengers were saved because the ship's baker, Mr. Altovise, use his cookie sheets as life preservers and thus saved those orphans from a watery grave. Also, the sea does not provide proper , cold and refreshing drinking water. This is a notable maritime hazard. Thank you ,, from a former merchant marine, who survived the sinking of four vessels.

Carpathia, Titanic's rescue ship was sunk during the war. Britannic, Titanic's sister ship was also sunk during the war. The thing is, alomst all ocean liners and ships were used as cargo ships or hospitals during the world war. if Titanic survived and didn't hit the iceberg. Titanic would have been used in the war as well as her size would have been very valuable at the time. And so Titanic would have most likely been attacked during the war and sunk just like Carpathia and the Britannic.
