My name is Brian Fitzgerald - I'm an Australian full time golf coach living in Melbourne and coaching at the Eastwood Golf Club in Kilsyth..
    FAQ:
How long have you been a golf coach? I qualified as a full member of the Australian PGA back in 1985. Wow I don't feel that old.
Why do you make videos for RUclips? That is a great question and one I get asked a lot. I love helping people play better golf and people tell me I have a very unique coaching style that is very simple to understand. We really should do things simpler. I just make them to help people and if people like my videos they can either come for a golf lesson in person or if that is not possible you could join my membership program and I can then view your golf swing or any part of your game and really help improve what you do.
Do you always change some ones golf swing? To be perfectly honest I try not to. If I do try to change some ones golf swing I have to have a pretty good reason for doing so and the client has to be fully engaged and committed to both regular coaching and practice in order to make that change. Most people say they will do both with good intentions but most fall away pretty quickly.
So my preference is to change things that will improve their score easily. There are so many different ways to do this.
What do you film with? - I have a few few different cameras I use. An old GoPro Hero 4, an iPhone 6 and iPhone X, A Sony ZV1 and an old Panasonic Handy cam (I'm using that less and less now). I record my sound on an old iPhone 4.
What do you edit with? - About a year ago I switched to Adobe Premiere - prior to that it was Pinnacle Studio
Do you make money off RUclips? - Yes.It took me over 100 videos to make my first total $100 off adsense and then another 50 videos to make my next $100. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - Here's my ko-fi where you can buy me a coffee, beer or a burger should you wish (kind of like giving me a tip via : ko-fi.com/theg...
    Thanks for watching!

I've been having problems with my putting stroke and which hand was controlling the club, so revisited the course last week. Have adopted the pencil grip which seems to put my right hand in control, and readjusted the length of the club as my eyes were to far forward (I was dropping plastic balls from the bridge of my nose to see where my eyes were), 33.5 inches seems to be the sweet spot. Seemed to pay off yesterday, feels a much smoother swing, so need to get practising to embed it in! Cheers and have a great week!

      Well done Adi.
It’s good to try different things as you have.
I designed the course so that you could go back at any time and revisit the various drills and elements of the putting stroke.
You are doing a great job. Eye position is vital.
      Brian.

You must be psychic!! I literally just texted my pga buddy my putting was horrible today. And I'm lost on the greens all of a sudden. And I'm doing 100% exactly what you said. I'm afraid to do it without acceleration. I will be following your technique next round tyvm😊

      That was lucky Tim.
You definitely don't want the club accelerating through impact with a putter. The putter head should be slowing down due to the collision with the golf ball.
Let me know how it goes.

Excellent putting tip Brian! I like your recommendation of the same length of backswing as the follow through! It seems by using this suggestion, one's tempo is not disturbed! Well Done Brian!

      Glad it was helpful John!
Once the ball gets in the way of the putter the follow through is reduced naturally.

Thanks as always Brian! I would guess you see that because most golfers would be trying to ensure they accelerate through the shot and not decelerate (as you mention near the end) and hit something too timid. Harder to visualise the ball not really being an obstacle and swinging that way, but great to do when you know.

The old never up never in adage is what is ruining most golfers score cards. If there is too much speed and the ball hits the hole it won’t go in.
It takes a big of a mind shift to get used to it.

I know you made this video for me Brian. I am listening!!! I had 38 points Saturday off the blues at The Dunes (16 HC) and putted very well thanks to our last lesson. "Length of back swing determines the distance....."!!

      Well done on Saturday.
Keep working on the little things they add up.

I'm guilty of having a short backswing because I struggle to square the putter face and hit the sweet spot with a longer backswing. This is probably a technique issue but I will certainly try your advice and see if I can fix the other issues.. Thanks.

      Thanks for sharing!
I would recommend you try practicing with your right hand only on the putter. It is uncomfortable at first but you will see an improvement in your stroke length and face control through impact.
Tiger has been using this drill for many years.
      Try from 5, 10, 15 and 20 feet.
      It works pretty well.

Many pga pro have a short backswing long follow through. Cameron Smith for example. It promotes stable clubface and acceleration through the shot.

    • @fitzygolfpro
      @fitzygolfpro  3 месяца назад

Some do but most don’t. We must be looking at different Cameron Smiths. That is not what his coach is working on with him.
But if you think that works for you then do it. There are always exceptions to the rule.

Some guy called Padraig Harrington said the same thing….longer backswing and hit the ball, don’t stroke it or push it…hit it and have a short follow through!

It’s what the majority of the best players do.
