I think alot of people who are unsatisfied with Switch 2 are highly nostalgic for the era of Wii/WiiU & DS/3DS specifically (which I call the attitude era lol), but maybe forget how that time was just that time & Nintendo before always were reiterating on each system without much gimmicks or attitude (NES-GC/GB-GBA). Yet the actual big showcase is still happening in April & we can see everything about the system which includes new features + hopefully we get the "attitude" too. While I understand how some people feel about the Switch 2 being a.. Switch 2, I think we arrived at a time where Switch as a concept has every single thing Nintendo has made: - stationary console - handheld - motion control - seperate joycons - pro controller - touch screen - now even a mouse mode control.. The idea of the Switch is the culmination of everything from past Nintendo into one device.
I know it's easy to look back at those older consoles as "simple" itterations, but the SNES literally changed the industry with its controller (shoulder buttons, diamond shape) and games. The GBA at the time became a portable SNES, had shoulder buttons, linked with the Gamecube and back to the portable SNES thing, that was insane to have SNES like games in your hands. These were eras where the graphical and technical wall between eras was jumping way way beyond the previous gens. There was always excitement. As for the Switch, unfortunately Nintendo have entered that HD era where many games across all platforms are looking virtually the same and the same graphical and technical leaps simply can't surprise us as much anymore. Diminishing returns as they say. We can mention things Nintendo have kept on their consoles, but I can also name a wealth of things they have not kept and in many ways should have. The idea of the Switch is a culmination of some Nintendo ideas, not all, or at least not all the ones I feel should have returned. But like I said many times in the video. This is purely a reaction based off a two minute trailer showing just the hardware getting bigger, not much more. I'll be waiting till April for that grand reveal where I'm utterly sure my hype train will be put on full steam. Great comment, hope you enjoyed some of my thoughts.
@ClockedIt yea, the 80/90s had very fast advancements that managed to change games designs in ways that needed more buttons/analogue, there were even some weird stuff like Virtual Boy which died out bc of good reasons, while the necessary inventions remaind. I'm too looking forward to April, hopefully it doesn't disappoint 🙏🏼
@shadowsquid1351 Indeed. April will reveal all and I'll always be hyped for the games. The games saved the Switch, something I done a video on. I'll follow up this video perhaps celebrating the things I've loved this gen with the Switch.
Great discussion. You know I get you. It didn't excite me, but things like a potential mouse function does have me with exciting thoughts. In the end of the day, I think it's incredible to have a console that can play on the TV, play on the go, use a touch screen, put the controller on the side to use it as a mouse. 8 years later and still no one is touching Nintendo with this and while it's more of the same, they are adding to it and they still can think of new ways to impress. Ring Fit Adventure isn't possible on other consoles, LABO, Nintendo Switch Sports, Mario Kart Live, and while we may not play all their experimental and that's for a reason, they all are completely different all using Switch hardware in different ways that is impossible on other platforms even their own previous hardware. So I just know Nintendo can continue to experiment with this Switch idea and still create unique experiments that can only be done with sort of hardware.
I hope I got across my point in the video that this reaction is purely based off this low key reveal, which like I said fundamentally just shows us a size increase and maybe a mouse like feature with the Joycons. I just personally can't get excited about such a reveal. I felt the same way with the PS5 and Series X which all had these similar like hardware trailers. Do not in any way my brother take my response as throwing shade on the Switch software library or what the hardware did achieve. We both know that the Switch has been great. The April reveal like I said should be that Super Mario 3D World second trailer like reveal, where we'll see a ton of games and all those little things Nintendo have hopefully added to this system, which will get us hyped. And I'm a Nintendo fan, if anything, I'm already excited about the new Zelda etc when we know nothing about them heh.
Crazy how similar our thoughts are on this but really not that crazy knowing our gaming backgrounds. Like you I’m holding out hope for the April Direct for that Nintendo surprise and wonder. After such a meh “reveal” and even more meh logo lol, I’d be surprised if they didn’t find a way to lift my spirits during that even. Fingers crossed 🤞
@@MizzahTee In the Big N we must trust...but still a meh reveal haha! As time passes, we'll put this initial disappointment behind us and like with the Switch, I'm sure the games will come and make us happy Nintendo gamers. Fingers crossed 🤞 🤞 heh!
Maybe. It looks like Nintendo has now become the traditional Console Company, like Sony and Microsoft. While I don't mind a tech upgrade for a Nintendo console, I am a bit worried that is all it's going to be in the future. Though than again, the Switch has proven to be a pretty effective console, so effective that valve and co replicated it. So maybe it's a good idea to keep the ball rolling and just make a better console of the Switch.
@@TurKlack It's hard not to see this as a simple roll over. This trailer doesn't help in anyway, that's the main gripe. I also say that we don't want this console to have the same vibe as the Switch. This console could end up feeling much different, even if the OS has music, backgrounds and the e-shop has music haha! Let's wait till April for its full reveal, where of course I'll do another video on it.
I hear what you're saying and I agree that some of that Nintendo magic was missing, but I'm one of those people who just wanted a more powerful Switch and I'm pretty happy the official reveal, I'm just gutted so much of it already got leaked. Saying that, it does feels like Nintendo have finally learned the lessons of past mistakes. The name and logo, although not that exciting, makes complete sense from a marketing aspect. I think the mouse functionality is something that is being slept on. I'm not a big FPS guy, but being able to play those types of games with the accuracy of a mouse, really excites me. I can easily imagine playing games like Metroid Prime, Splatoon, StarFox, Kid Icarus or Sin Punishment and that's not including all those 3rd party shooters. RTS games, a new Mario Maker or any game that decides to include some kind of level editor. Come to think of it, imagine they bring back F-Zero and they give us a track editor like they did for 64DD or they bring that feature to the new Mario Kart. Being able to use a mouse for all those scenarios would be huge for me. There's so much more I'd love to talk about, but this comment is already too long 😅 Again, great vid, really enjoy hearing your thoughts
Heh epic comment my brother and I'll naturally reply in full. It's an odd thing for me. I remember doing a video before where I said that all us Nintendo fans want more power, but at the same time, even during the SNES and Megadrive era, I felt what a difference that SNES hardware with mode 7 and the SNES controller made a difference to gaming. Then you know me and my love for the N64, which literally changed the industry. I'm holding onto the April full reveal hoping that this Switch 2 is more than just a power jump and a bigger console. As for the potential mouse features, I'm a PC gamer as well; but I also played PC like games on consoles where I owned a console mouse. I'm actually playing Metroid Prime 3 at the moment and I'm reminded how amazing the pointer consoles are for FPS games, or pointer controls for games like Sin and Punishment etc. I still can't see the potential wow factor behind this mouse thing considering how it'll need to be used either at home on the TV or in portable mode, which raises other questions, but hey, if anyone can surprise me then it's the Big N. Don't ever stress if our opinions differ, there is always middle ground for all discussions bro. Cheers.
I've typed 3 different multi-paragraph comments, and deleted them all, because it's too hard to explain everything I want to say in text form... so I'll just save my thoughts for Monday's podcast! But I will say, the biggest takeaway I got from this video, is how much of a negative you view the fact that the Switch 2 will basically make the original Switch irrelevant moving forward... For me, I love the idea of having the ultimate version of the Switch that will completely replace the old one, so I won't need to own them both. Which I bet is another example of how you and I are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum when it comes to gaming opinions! Haha
Heh of course we differ in this stance. I rarely pack up any old console because they all still to this day offer something unique, so yeah, it'll be a little weird to most likely be packing up the old Switch, perhaps never to be played again. You know me, as old school as it comes heh.
@@TerminatorJuice They've already lost one of our Switch Lites! They ain't getting nuttin! Heh! And if this console is expensive, then it'll be the only one in the house and it'll be mine! Mine I tell you!!!
@ClockedIt I honestly don't think it's going to cost much more than the current Switch... But since I expect that Nintendo is NOT going to lower the price of the original Switch models, they'll have to at least charge $50 more than the OLED for the Switch 2.
The old Nintendo died with Iwata. I predicted it'd be this, just a more powerful switch. The PS5 controller features are far more utilised than the Joy Cons. I'm not that excited for Switch 2. I'll get it but I ain't counting the days like I was with the OG Switch. I've just let go of any hope Nintendo will have that "magic" again.
The games will always shine through brother. I'm sure in April Nintendo will truly show this thing off, there will be nice surprises and the games will get us pumped. I might follow up this video with a more cheery approach to the current Nintendo world heh. Thanks the comment man.
I'm excited for the gray theme you can't kill my hype!!!
