Great video and the tank is coming along nicely. You may want to move the torch sooner rather than later. If it grows the way mine has grown, it won't be long until it is stinging the rastas nearby and possibly the sps that looked pretty close.
Thanks Devon for the update, I did consider buying this tank here in Oz but decided to go for larger 4x2x2 because our summers are hot and temp can be an issue with smaller tanks.
I ended up with a Waterbox 135.2, but here in Australia it is called Fire Aqua, I have a number of Fire Aqua freshwater tanks but the 4x2x2 will be my first marine "reef" tank.
That last unboxing I bought in person at JL and drove home with them. Most of the time I buy locally (Atleast for fish). I have ordered coral on line a few times but orefer to buy in person when I can see them first
Those guys are awesome! They are the smallest species of pipefish i could find (nano size) Im stoked that i got a pair as well.. now if only spike would show him self daily! :P
OMG! My tank is only 3 months old and it's only 6 gallons and yes I am a beginner hobbyist, my SPS are growing but not incrusting, maybe I don't know something? I am dosing all of the elements ( not including potassium cause it makes algae go super crazy). Please answer my question!
Haha, yeah I know what you mean, one of the first corals I added was a NPS Chilli coral, because I obviously hate myself. Just over a year later and it's still alive!
Tank is looking awesome Dev! I'm telling you, find a small magnificent foxface and put him in and he'll destroy the bubble algae in no time, then move him on to the main tank since he'll be too large for a Nano longterm...it's a miracle fish for bubble algae, or any algae for that matter!
Really nice setup and aquascape. One question, how much CaribSea Life Rock did you used for this nano? And thanks for all those videos very interesting and full of informations.
Hi ReefDudes. I've used Vibrant for bubble algae a few times over the last few years on my 100g reef. It definitely works. 4-6 weeks of application twice a week. I had a ton of bubble algae each time and both times I applied, they were completely gone. I did have a bit of a cyano (common with application) following each treatment, but I'd rather use Chemiclean after Vibrant than battle bubble algae consistently with no progress. Hope this is helpful!
Thanks so much for the feedback! Sounds promising then! Did the bubble algae come back on its own or did it hey re introduced on a frag? Thanks for the info!
Great question. I don't think I addressed the root of the bubble algae in my tank. It is great at removing the bubbles without bursting and multiplying. I've had a tough time balancing my Nitrate and Phosphate. I would say that was the biggest issue of it coming back, but if you have that balance than I would not expect it to return unless reintroduced. It will take 4-6 weeks but then will likely all disappear within a few days. It's a great product when you are in a tough spot and don't mind taking care of the cyano after.
It would clog the stock one as is stock. You would need a little 1/2” piece of tube to poking out on the inside go make sure it sucks from above the sludge layer .. then you shlold be safe :)
ReefDudes hey thanks for the quick reply. I actually installed a tunze osmolator 3152 and have the sensor and the RODI run to the same area as the ATO that came with the tank. Do you think I would have any troubles doing it this method?
Just make sure the pump is raised up so it doesnt suck in the kalk slurry and you will be fine. You may want to clean the pump in vinegar/rodi every few months to be safe but your good to go oterwiese
Have you ever had any issues with vacuum loss from your DIY dosing containers? I seem to be losing the vacuum for my calicum container...its not pulling the liquid out of the container and into my tank. the doser is trying to pull the liquid up but its just not going up...it was working fine at the beginning but now nothing...my alk is working fine ..i was told by a friend he had the same issue with those ro tubing bulkheads we are using in the caps..any idea?
Looking great, getting me motivated to dive into nano world. Are you going to dose trace elements in 4 pump,? Love ato might do something similar but with a aqua lifter if it works.( I'm to lazy to build) lol.also do the pipe fish eat other than pods?
You could very easily make one using a relay and aqualifter instead :P Nanos are fun cause you can keep tiny creatures that would otherwise get lost in a big tank. So far just pods for the pipe fish. I do add tiny particles of leftover mysis juice but not 100% if they are eating it or not.
Boosted Blue pods or copepods are little tiny creatures that are at the base of the food chain in your aquarium. (Free fish food . Will scavenge leftover food ect). They will find a way to your tank on their own but adding some up front can really help boost their numbers.
I see. Do you need to constantly supply the tank with new pods, or you find that they keep a good population on their own? Do you have a small refugium set up in the sump in the back? I'm considering upgrading my 10 gallon to this Red Sea Max Nano because I find it impossible to maintain a good pod population in my current tank. But given that there's no readily available refugium in this Red Sea system either, I wanted to know how people manage. Thanks in advance
Hey Red Sea, my protein skimmer is running at 80 decibels & has done ever since I got my nano! My return pump alone is running at 50 decibels which is way too high! Have done everything to get it to be more quiet but am at a loss. Have already spoken to one of your representatives who has sent replacement parts and made suggestions but the situation still hasn't improved. Please respond. 1 unhappy customer!
Vibrant worked for me on Bubble and Hair algae. Highly recommend it. Nice video👍
Awesome thanks! Fingers crossed it does the trick for me too!
Great video and the tank is coming along nicely. You may want to move the torch sooner rather than later. If it grows the way mine has grown, it won't be long until it is stinging the rastas nearby and possibly the sps that looked pretty close.
True enough. It shouldn’t be too hard to break off the bit of epoxy and move it when the time comes! Good tip though. I’ll keep an eye on it!
The blue millie is for ever my favorite in your tanks!
Thanks Devon for the update, I did consider buying this tank here in Oz but decided to go for larger 4x2x2 because our summers are hot and temp can be an issue with smaller tanks.
If you only have one tank going bigger is nice! Did you go with red sea or another brand?
I ended up with a Waterbox 135.2, but here in Australia it is called Fire Aqua, I have a number of Fire Aqua freshwater tanks but the 4x2x2 will be my first marine "reef" tank.
Nice update Dev! Your tank is looking great!
Thank you so much Melanie!
How??!! Super impressive that the SPS had encrusted within 2 months span.
I thought so too! not bad for a brand new tank :)
Who is your Canadian livestock supplier? I see you open boxes all the time but you never said where did you get them?
That last unboxing I bought in person at JL and drove home with them. Most of the time I buy locally (Atleast for fish). I have ordered coral on line a few times but orefer to buy in person when I can see them first
I see. You are in BC. Here in MTL, there is only one reef shop.
Nice! You should do more of these updates, on the big tank too!
Great update Dev! The tank is looking awesome.
Thanks Jeff! :D
Love the aquascape. Especially from the side.
Tanks Tony! (thas my couch view haha) That life rock shapes make it sooo easy to scape :)
Didn’t take long for the nano to thrive! Well done!
Thanks Buds! so far so good :)
Tank is looking awesome I’m also going to Orlando maybe I will see you there
Awesome! Be sure to come say hi! :D
Coming along nicely Devin!!
I love those pipefish! I'm super interested how they'll do long term, I'm tempted to try one in my nano
They are awesome! Just make sure you have lots of pods first I supplement them on a regular basis
Excellent you know your stuff great tank very motivating
Much appreciated Mark!
The tank is really looking awesome. I’m really loving the pipefish! Not very common!
Those guys are awesome! They are the smallest species of pipefish i could find (nano size) Im stoked that i got a pair as well.. now if only spike would show him self daily! :P
Looking awesome dev
Looks great. I need to get a Rainford Goby for my tank.
Very cool peaceful little fish! i would recommend them :)
Lookin good! Love the clean set up and the ato
Thanks! that’s as small and as simple as I could possibly make it!
Nano is looking very nice! That pipe fish is awesome (goby is not too shaby as well). I see that Vibrance dosing at the end... ;-)))
haha thanks buds! im hoping that bubble algae be gone works :)
Looking good Dev. I’ve yet to enter the dosing world after over 3 years I’m still keeping it simple stupid.
Do you manually daily dose? I just like to be a “lazy Reefer” and automate everything!
Going through the same thing with bubble algae, and ordered Vibrant as well. Hopefully it works, otherwise, need to get a emerald crab.
Fingers crossed for both of us!
Loved it! 😍
Kaká G thanks Kaka!

Looking ace dude! I'm loving the lil gorgonian.
Thanks Glitch! so far the little NPS gorgonian is happy! I like to add little challenging ones for my self to up the anty haha
Haha, yeah I know what you mean, one of the first corals I added was a NPS Chilli coral, because I obviously hate myself. Just over a year later and it's still alive!
2 months, it really looks good!!!!
Thanks SC

if i can find a baby! hahah.. fingers crossed the vibrant stuff does the trick
ReefDudes Keep us posted how it works out! I've actually never heard of vibrant before, but hope it knocks it out for you..bubble algae sucks
Will do!
Dev when you put pods in do you leave the circulation pump off for any length of time the tank looks cool cheers
Yep. I usually turn the pumps off for 20-30 minutes when I add them. The fish have a feeding frenzy and it gives the rest time to hide :)
Really nice setup and aquascape.
One question, how much CaribSea Life Rock did you used for this nano?
And thanks for all those videos very interesting and full of informations.
Nice looking tank 👍
Prob 10-14lbs. I got 20 and used a little more than half of it
What’s the opinion on the life Rock now after 2 months? Does it need to be cycled like some say or throw it in and good to go?
I used vibrant it worked but got some red algae on my sand bed which in process of taking care of
Your the second one to mention that. Last night was the first dose so hopefully it does the trick
Looking sweet man!
Thanks so much! :D

what do you think about using kalkwasser in the ATO for the red sea nano max?
It would clog the stock one as is stock. You would need a little 1/2” piece of tube to poking out on the inside go make sure it sucks from above the sludge layer .. then you shlold be safe :)

What type of pipe fish do you have. Or can you make a video or the type of Live stock more in depth
Sure, ill work that into the next update. They are blue streak pipe fish
Looking good! What's your light schedule and settings?
I just posted pics of the settings on facebook.com/groups/reefdudes/
New to nano tanks. What does giving them pods mean?
Boosted Blue pods or copepods are little tiny creatures that are at the base of the food chain in your aquarium. (Free fish food . Will scavenge leftover food ect). They will find a way to your tank on their own but adding some up front can really help boost their numbers.
Hi Dev. If you get a chance please can you tell us what your aiprime setting are?
Will do in a future update :). If you want it sooner I posted pics of my settings in the Facebook group facebook.com/groups/reefdudes
I"m jealous of the pipefish! Which pods do you add? And do you culture them yourself?
The pipe fish are pretty awesome! I culture my own pods. I added a bunch of different types to my original cultures
Have you done a video about your cultures? I'll search, but thought I'd ask first :)
Hey not sure if you see this but how did ur sps manage without any power heads in the system
There is a nero5 on the back wall under the return pipe. Maybe not at the time of this video but there was later
Does the Rainford eat anything other than pods? I had one in the past that starved.
So far all i ever see it do is pick at the sand. that being said i do broadcast feed the tank so it "may" be going for that as well.
What type of clean up crew are you using in this tank?
So far a few snails. Orange lip conch and an emerald crab
May i know your light schedule?
Nice Nano , awesome corals :-) reefdudesawsometanks :-) :-)
Woo thanks Seveke!
very nice loving the tank :)
nice t shirt too ;)
Why thank you! Haha I made some to wear to RAP this week :)
Would you be able to share you AI prime light settings?
If your on Facebook I’ll lost it the group facebook.com/groups/reefdudes
Spike will come out more soon 😀
He’s shy. Slowly but surely :P
where did you get the screen top?
salt is life diy one
Does your pipefish eat frozen?
He "might" eat the canalis the mysis is likely to big for him. he is constantly hunting pods so i think that is a key part in them thriving

Nice. Keep up the good work, you should visit us at RAP - Orlando.
Will doo! See you guys in a few days :)
