Pro tip: if your work calls you as you’re about to leave for a vacation, you’ve already left for vacation. You’re gone, dead to the world, you’ve gone on vacation to the moon for all they know because they’ve called you 20 times and you haven’t answered because your vacation includes the time before you leave
I just moved to the UK and they take work/life balance incredibly seriously. One of my coworkers was responding to Microsoft Teams messages while on his vacation, so my boss removed him from the chats to basically force him to sit back and take his mind off work. Usually they remind us that we don't need to be responding to any messages or emails if we're not on the clock, and Ive NEVER received nor sent an email on the weekend. I appreciate this company and the work culture very much.
Old person here. Say it with me. Your job is not your family. They don't care about you. If you drop dead at work, they will replace you before your body is cold. People have to work, I get it. I've been there... but if your workplace is like this, I encourage you to find a different place to work. You absolutely can do it. You can.
Or, and this is from a college student's perspective where certain professors *need* to be fired... Or, they take "we're all family here" way too far and refuse to fire people that are actively harming the people they work with.
I just moved states and left behind a job that was eerily like this. I miss my coworkers to a point but...you're right. Hard for me to grill that into my brain, but you're right.
@@RUclipsperson1337 this is no way shaming you: but at will does not often mean what your company wants you to think it means. Look into it more and try and see if there’s a way for you to get what you need
Pro tip for bosses calling you in when you are on vacation: "sorry, I can't come in. I'm not even in the country right now." Just lie. They can't prove you're lying. They can't get mad that they approved vacation time and that you went on vacation. They can try and hold it against you, but it's a paper tiger.
Can confirm that this works i mean i actually was in the airport but when my boss called i just said "sorry whatever it is I can't help I'm in Tijuana!" Hung up and left my work phone in a suitcase whole trip
Or don’t even answer. You have no obligation to tell them what you’re doing or where you’re going for your time off. Don’t bring your work laptop, don’t answer their calls. Using camping as an example you can easily justify it by saying there wasn’t any service. Not that one needs to justify taking their own PTO that was already approved. Or if you’re going to work on vacation advise your boss you will be adjusting your PTO to reflect the time you’re working on vacation. I did that a couple times. The first time I was on vacation (only two days) and boss wanted me to handle some accounts while away so I only used 1.5 days of time, the other time i had almost a week off and I straight up subtracted a whole day because it was a Saturday (we were only m-f) and this clown wanted me to handle some accounts WHILE HE WAS ENJOYING HIS SATURDAY. I’m not confrontational at all, so when I was asked about it I almost puked standing up for myself but NO. If I work, I get paid for it. I am NOT wasting my PTO bank if I’m not on vacation.
@@Bee-rt5qfI think I’d rather answer and say I physically cannot make it to work, rather than let them think I’m ignoring the call. Even if nothing will change if they think that, they will think less of you and you lose out on any chance of a raise or promotion. It’s the hard truth, unfortunately.
I know we generally don't comment on the actors, but boy oh boy... this mom's acting sure is something (not even bad necessarily, it's just got a weird tone that really grinds my gears)
Yeah I hate to go against the grain. All the dhar man actors seem chill and maybe she’s rlly nice but she bothered me lmao. Her and that kid who’s always getting bullied
I’m not sure if Jarvis already committed on this but I find it kind of weird how the Title says “mom picks work over her daughter” and that “she lives to regret it” when she was just trying to keep her job to provide for her family while her BOSS was putting pressure on her
I've been thinking that to and its so odd for a title. I'm so use to villian does _____ over ____ instantly regrets it. In a normal one it would be probably be Boss threatens employee instantly regrets it. (Then in the end the boss is going bankrupt and the former employee buys their old job and is the complete opposite of the boss)
It does seem to push the narrative that women have the obligation to always be perfect employees and perfect mothers somehow. That women, more than men, have obligations to sacrifice for their kids, while not addressing the pressure at work to prove that they are as good as any man. To be clear, I don't think this was intended, as I can see Dhar Man doing this same story with a father, but because that messaging already exists, this story doesn't land for me.
@@dawn8293 There can be a fine line between "pushing a narrative" and addressing genuine feelings though. Some women do feel that pressure. Although on the flipside, this woman had an unemployed househusband, so it flipped the stereotype of the man as breadwinner and one could argue that while we see her stress as unfortunate, we generally don't extend the same sympathy towards work-life balance to men. The idea of "having it all" is almost exclusively talked about as how we can better accommodate the work-life balance for women. When it comes to the presentation of supposed stereotypes, many can be spun whatever way you want.
I’m honestly so annoyed at chat for calling her daughter a “demon child” during the ER scene. The mom wasn’t in the wrong at all for what she did, but put yourself in her daughter’s shoes. Her mom has been absent for a large portion of her life, and as a 10 year old, she doesn’t completely understand the importance of work and the pressure her mom must have felt at the time. It’s not unreasonable for her to lash out, especially in such an overwhelming situation (breaking her arm). While yes, she’s not logically in the right, her emotions are still valid. Especially for a 10 year old.
I was thinking that too. Like as much as I would be upset as the mother that my child isn't thankful that her mom was there eventually, children are entitled to their emotions and you can't be mad that someone is mad at you regardless. Plus she literally ended the scene happy about ice cream sooooo
for real. the way people immediately wished death on the child the second she voiced her opinion over her mom never being there really disgusted me. she wasn’t there when her mom was under that toxic workplace, and she wasn’t there when she quit the job, through the kids perspective all she knew was broken promises and never seeing her mom until it was too late.
they showed so much empathy for the kid until she had a realistic reaction to everything going around her. this has clearly been something that has happened consistently over the years, of course she's gonna be upset if her mom is never there. if they can criticize these videos for having children with unrealistic emotional maturity, then I don't understand why they immediately did a 180 the second she got upset like any child would
jarvis' chat is so funny two people: talking amicably, talking and catching up cheerfully in a parking lot chat: CONFRONTATION !! PARKING LOT CONFRONTATION !!!!!
I'm glad Jarvis was like "put that man on speaker" because if I was this woman, literally about to go outside on my family vacation, which I already got approved for, he should have to listen to my daughter cry. Crazy billionaire money, I get Dhar Mann to re-do this script where the boss has to face karmic retribution.
Jarvis trashing this kind of work culture is refreshing cus when I worked at Starbucks I had a store manager that would shove all the store running onto the staff and shift leads. He spent most of his time either on vacation or at other locations, but would get snippy if we wanted days off or wanted to change our availability. I was 18 when I worked there and he was having me work 6 day work weeks. The abuse of power is insanely real and it’s real icky to see mr. mann trivialize it like he does with most other serious topics.
I worked at a certain smoothie franchise for a while and the managers were so toxic and controlling that I had to quit. I put in my two weeks as customary, and once they were up, the managers kept scheduling me to work afterwards. I tried confronting them about this, but they pressured me into working those extra days "bEcAuSe ThEy NeEdeD mE" even though I HAD ALREADY QUIT.
My girlfriend just left 7/11 because the boss not only was famous for being abusive to everyone he worked with but he also has 6-months-old expired licenses so he can't even sell ice, let alone water or food and even killed several people with gunshots and intentionally ran a guy over with his car in road rage. I'm pretty sure he was a drunk but his name is Alan Du, and he has failed inspections before and has nothing but abuse charges in his credit while owning this store.
@@squeezydoot that's crazy. A 2 weeks notice is a courtesy you pay them. You could have just stopped showing up. If I have a shitty boss I don't give 2 weeks notice, because they for sure wouldnt extend the same courtesy if they wanted to fire you
And its so hard to actively challenge them because they just threaten your job security and hold it over your head. And start to gaslight you and keep track of every single thing you do. Using 2 paperclips instead of one. It's insane. Like it's actually insane. Psychopathic
@@HartleiStansbury7 exactly. my sibling works at quite a toxic workplace and when i tell them to challenge their unreasonable bosses, they worry that it’ll cost their job immediately; and their boss is 100% the type to say ‘if you don’t etc, you’ll be fired’. seeing how things are economically & how almost no one is hiring, losing their job is the last thing they wanna do.
This went from the best dhar mann video with realistic development, to one of the worst, most infuriating, unrealistic abominations he's ever made in a matter of minutes. Speedrun record I say.
what's with all the unnecessary hate towards kids in chat? the moment a child voices any negative emotion the chat is filled with "DEMON CHILD" "this is why I hate children" "I'm about to punt this kid" "kids suckkkk" like wtf, the poor kid just broke her arm and obviously isn't old enough to understand the pressures of work - to her, it probably seems like her mom made a choice to go to work instead of stay with her. not to mention it's on the same day her mom left before a trip they'd been planning for months, a trip her mom pinky promised she'd be able to go on. (I'm not blaming the mom AT ALL - her boss didn't give her any option with his thinly-veiled threats. just saying, that's a lot to expect a 10-year-old to fully grasp)
IKR?? I was looking for a comment about this because it was bugging me so much. She’s clearly too young to understand the nuances and pressure of her mom’s situation, the mom obviously hasn’t explained it her (because this isn’t the kind of thing she need to worry her child about), and even if she did the kid still has a right to be upset when her needs (time with and attention from her mom) are continually not being met, even though it’s not the mom’s fault. Like chill omg let kids be. It’s like the moment a child is more complicated than a plant people get up in arms
It’s cause the kid kept constantly raising her voice at her mom I get it comes from a place of anger but her mom is also going through tough times at work
@@3ortune I understand that but she's ten years old and obviously isn't going to understand the stresses of work when nobody has explained it to her. Plus, even if she *was* being a huge brat (which I don't think she was) that wouldn't justify saying you want to kick a child or that she's evil.
@@3ortune yeah like ally said, think about what its like to be the kid in the situation? she barely gets to see her mum because of work and even when she needs her most (breaking her arm and being in the hospital can be so scary for a 10 year old and she needs all the emotional support she can get in that situation) her mum isn't there. of course she's going to have an outburst! but then to voice wanting that to harm the child or for the child to literally DIE is overdramatic as hell and chat needs to stop with the edgy "i hate kids (i am 14) and i want to harm them" trash they have going on
As a developer, it was great to see Jarvis make all these points. He's spot on 100% about the distorted POV executives and founders have about working overtime.
someone in chat said that Emily was being such a pushover when irl this stuff can happen all the time 💀 esp for those that aren’t as financially well off.
literally it lowkey made me so upset 😭 like bro she was out of work for a few months at most and was already struggling with bills she wasn't able to pay she's not a pushover for dealing with her shitty job, she literally NEEDED the income to support her and her family 💀
I once requested Christmas Eve off months in advance, got approved, and then my boss accidentally forgot my request and scheduled me to work a shift that night. (This was when I was a waitress) He felt awful and both of us tried our best to get someone else to take the shift but everyone was busy, of course, and some even lied and said they were out of town despite posting stories on Snapchat of them in town and not even busy. I ended up having to work the shift because I was the only cashier scheduled that night. But at least my family all came and visited me at work, so that was nice.
I once requested off for my big's wedding before i was even hired before my first day and i was approved by my boss and her boss and then they put me on the spot by asking me in front of the person like a day before i was scheduled to leave and they made me stay late because some goofball had a last minute date w someone he met on tinder (that never goes anywhere bc hes a serial dater. (Got broken up with at work over FaceTime 57 times)) and i had to change all of my travel plans. It was horrible. The peer pressure made me soooooooo pissed
One time I requested to work christmas day so i could schedule my family christmas time for christmas eve because thats the rule at that job (work one then not work the other) and they ended up scheduling me for both christmas eve and christmas day anyways and also new years eve and new years day, I was pissed
"i feel like in order to be a good employee i have to fail as a mom." oh my god. as a child of a single mom who has to work all the time in order to just barely get by, actual chills dude. especially because i understand how bad my mom feels having to work until 7 pm all the time, and i've gotten old enough to understand that she isn't bad for that. i can't imagine how shitty it would feel to be pressured to work all of the time, and on top of that, you're straight up shamed for it by your own child who is too young to understand why her mom has to be at work all of the time.
its kinda weird seeing the twitch chat like “fuck that kid” when she was upset, like i dont think kids that young understand how horrible a workplace like that can be yk?
As a disabled person I hate attitudes towards time off, my parents are extremely anti sick day and would constantly go on at me for taking them to the point I wasn't really better off for doing so because of the stress. Higher ups tend to think you're making excuses and still try to reach you constantly as if trying to catch you out and it's awful that in most cases you're an employee first, person second. In spite of the stigma sex work is the only good job I've had in that regard as I can take whatever time away that I need and turn my work phone off whenever necessary. I wish unhealthy work cultures weren't so ingrained in society but hey that's just me being lazy or whatever right 🙄
I have rheumatoid arthritis and it sucks because I feel like everyone sees arthritis as being a mild problem or something only old people get, so I feel like everyone thinks I'm making it up. It's hard to sit too long, even harder hard to stand too long, can lift heavy things, that pretty much cuts out most jobs. I have actually considered sex work tbh lol.
@@Tera_totally I feel you because I have EDS and no one takes my joints issues seriously either! It's worse when you're young because things like arthritis and crackly joints are seen as "old people problems" :( I'm lucky that sex work is legal here and I'm pretty protected so it's safe for me, but it's sad it's pretty much a necessity because I can't at this time work a "normal" scheduled job (I have narcolepsy too, I don't really function before 2pm haha). I naïvely hope the system changes soon
@@littlewhitewulf I call it "the disabled people's choice" all the time haha, the fact I can make my rent and a decent living working only 2-3 hours a day and take flare days off is immensely helpful. It just saddens me that following my actual dreams will mean actually setting myself back in that sense haha, it's hard out here for us
Yeah there are other jobs than selling your body that you can work, there's a stigma for a reason. I am happy that you didn't put up with toxic workplace tho, too many people let their bosses abuse them and its not cool. But like seriously become a coder, go in to graphic design, website design, app design, game design, basically anything online. Make a website selling things you make. There are lots of options that are untraditional. Although I do really empathize with you for being shamed for sick days, it's just so great when other people assume you're just making everything up isn't it😁 I agree with your sentiment 'we just must be lazy right?'🙄
I absolutely agree with that pet peeve, I've been in a situation where I've been told "I'm so stressed out, I never get a wink of sleep and you all get to go home without a worry" from one of my boss and it is such an unfair thing to say to employees.
I had so many flash backs to jobs 💀The whole "you know how many days off I had? Zero." has the same energy as "I don't pay myself a salary." In response to me asking to be paid minimum wage 💀💀
“In order to be a good employee, I have to fail as a mom. In order to be a good mom, I have to fail as an employee. And this is why, as a teacher and military spouse with 2 littles and no local support outside of my coworkers, I’ve chosen to stop teaching until my children are older. This struggle is so real.
I'm quitting my job because I'm too depressed and exhausted to barely spend time with my family. Oh and the director called my mental health issues "spazzing out". 😑
Jesus, I'm sorry they said that too you. I quit my last job due to mental health issues; I kept sleeping in way past my shift times because I was so exhausted all the time 😬 So good for you 👌
I hate the mentality of "I'm an incompetent manager who can't coordinate my work for the weekdays so you need to cancel your plans to make up for it" I don't pick up work calls on weekends, its the managers job to make sure work is done on time so maybe they should be the ones to cancel plans when they fuck up. Same thing with expecting employees to find people to cover for them, straight up not my problem 🤷♂️
It feels really disrespectful to say that the solution to bad working conditions is just to just start a new business because ethical businesses will make more money anyways. Ignoring the fact that starting your own business is super impractical, if ethical practices actually made more profits, we’d see a larger number of companies doing them. The ending just reads like neo-capitalist propaganda.
Nwm companies help a lot in these cases tbh even if you dont want to stay forever, theyre a great great way to launch yourself into a different energy space where you can do a lot of good for yourself and others! Raises the consciousness level for sure
Most people can't afford to start a new business. Most companies take at least five years to start profiting and you'd have to be even busier when it's your own company. Unethical people make a lot of money. Honestly, that's why Dharr Mann is so cathartic. Good people get rewarded financially. I'm lucky to be in a good place with a great company right now. But some places are so toxic and there's no recourse for those people.
i'm really glad this video has sparked a discussion about workplace obligations, i have a story related to this topic. one of my family members recently took a lot of time off to care for a terminally ill loved one. but even while she was off, her work was contacting her about petty scenarios that came up between coworkers. not only was she dealing with the stress of caring for someone she loves who was not doing well, but was still getting roped into petty matters that didn't even concern her. unfortunately now we are grieving the loss of that person, so now she finally returned to work (while getting barely any time to grieve). the work-life balance (or lack thereof) desperately needs to change in the u.s, not only for the sake of my family members, but for everyone else who is just trying to live their lives.
Dude, I witnessed history here. Maybe 2 months late, but that “I feel like to be a good employee I have to fail as a mom” line was Dhar Man spitting bars he doesn’t even know he had. Some neglected god just prophesied through this script, just then.
It really is so toxic, and they're so angry that people could work from home now. Office work could be completely stopped, the huge buildings used to enslave people at a location to commit to only work tasks, could be used for housing our growing populations and other needed infrastructure. All office type work can be done at home on a computer and emailed to the boss, and it terrifies the corporations who depended on trapping you in a cold cubicle and beating the happiness out of you to "promote work ethic". They cannot stand the fact that you could go camping and still handle that Henderson Account and email the finished report while you're making s'mores with your family. No, that would be insanity wouldn't it? It gives you a sense of control over your life, and, God forbid, a sense of individuality and self importance. We can't have that now, it will destroy the fabric of capitalism. That's how they see it. We just had everyone work from home for 2 years and realize they prefer it, and corporations are fighting tooth and nail to keep offices open and full of automatons who miss their family.
Legit though, every other country (excuding abusive ones we know of) has the opposite mentality. Like you're sick? In Japan, massive dental work WITHOUT DOMESTIC DISCOUNTS was $150. I'M NOT KIDDING. Someone needed a ton of dental work and was on a work trip but got dental surgery done and he almost cried from the price being so low. Oh, you're a cashier? Guess what, EVERYONE CAN SIT ON A CHAIR AND DO THEIR JOB TOO.
The rants about corporate and working culture is so cathartic as someone who can barely work due to how inaccessible all jobs in my country are for me as a disabled person. I’m hoping to start volunteering at a homeless cat shelter for about an hour a week and I’m trying to launch a shop with my friend so hopefully that will make it easier after a while to get a job when I have no choice! Fuck capitalism man, I wish i could just chill with cats and do my silly little drawings all day
That sucks, I really hope your situation improves! I have a lot of sympathy for people that can't easily get a job thats accommodating. But in the dhar mann video that didn't really hit for me. She was clearly super qualified and had tons of offers, and I just find it hard to believe that she couldn't find a single job with good work life balance. Personally I work for a giant corporation and my work life balance is great thanks in part to my boss and company policies, so those jobs are out there, and with her experience its far fetched that she couldn't find one
Absolutely agreed. Never even found a place that will schedule within my availability, let alone recognize my disabilities. My first boss literally had me getting carts in the sun despite hiring me knowing that I got severe vertigo in the sun on my medication at the time. It’s like they think we’ll just magically fit into their standards smh Do you post your art anywhere? I’d love to see it 😊
It's scary to me that society keeps pushing for people to do what they dont want to do. Its like harrassment culture, over working, and general things you dont consent to are normal things to be subjected to. Society as a whole needs to change
Re Unlimited PTO: In the military my dad had unlimited sick days and accruing PTO separate. He was up to 72 days of PTO at one point lol but i think that system is the best way. No pressure to come in sick bc you want to save PTO, and you have set # of PTO days so there's no weird social pressure not to take "too much."
it honestly pisses me off how the title said that the mom chose work over her daughter. like, she was being manipulated and her job was on the line, and the title was shitting on the mom for that? i get how the daughter was upset but the mom wasn't really in the wrong
last year i worked at a company where they referred to each other as their family. we were paid very little, for a lot of extra hours, and had to take vacations with the ceo, go get beers with him and his girlfriend (the vp, btw) whenever he'd say "hey, y'all wanna get a beer today after work?" and they literally had a thing called the "emotional health committee" to host games and stuff like that. i got fired because i'm mentally ill. we love self-awareness, don't we?
This is actually the most cathartic Dhar Man video of all. All of the others feel a bit too absurd, but this one's premise is so grounded that I cheered outloud when the mother succeeded 😭
This episode of Dhar Mann, starring Jarvis getting mad at the evils of corporate greed and the overworking of your average worker. Seriously though, toxic workplaces suck. I used to work somewhere where you couldn't have more than two sick days in a row (because three days off would get you fired). I can remember having to go to work with influenza (fun fact, said work place got in trouble for being open during the pandemic when it shouldn't have been!!)
I love to see this being talked about. I’ve definitely been taken advantage of in the work place (fast food specifically for 3 years). I was 17 at the time and still in school. My managers would often tell me that I had to prioritize work over school. They would schedule me 5pm-12:30am 4 days a week knowing that I had to be at school the next morning. I was also pregnant while I worked there. I went to work up until 2 days before I gave birth only because they kept calling me in and I needed the money tbh. After that, they tried to call me into work 10 DAYS after I gave birth while I was on maternity leave!! 10 FREAKING DAYS! I still can’t believe they would even try that. Over worked, underpaid, and under appreciated. That has been my experience.
God, that is just terrible. I had a coworker who moved to another store go through major surgery and her higher ups called her....while she was in her hospital bed recovering....to walk someone through inventory over the phone. Unreal.
I don’t ever relate too much to Dhar Mann characters because the writing is usually so unrealistic but man did I relate to this mom and her boss having zero boundaries bc I had coworkers blowing up my phone to ask me questions on my wedding day
instead of suddenly seeing it from emily’s pov, i expected the boss to still criticize her even after she’s proved herself to be successful. but it is a dhar mann video :,) and there’s good in everybody.
This Dhar Mann video isnt any more over exaggerated than any other before it. It's just hits harder because this happens to this extreme all the time to the point that it has been normalized.
12:45 Boss: "I haven't had a day off in 3 years" Also Boss: * business trip to 5 star resort with golf course and country club *sits in office in a nice chair just hanging out on his computer all day * takes clients out for fancy dinners that start at lunch time and end at 2 AM at a high end cocktail bar * "business trips" to thailand for the weekend * can leave any time during work day to go party, have fun, shop, or eat, and still say he's "on the clock" Yeah of course you haven't had "a day off" when every work day is just fun for you.
Gotta admit, this dharman video has to be better than most if Jarvis talks about the characters and story rather than the dharman tropes and goofs. GG dharman Edit: ehh the ending is pretty rough.
She's so whiny. I know she's like being pulled both ways and is in a legitimately difficult situation, but at 23:40, when she's like "I tooolldd yyoooooouuuu" I wanna tear my own eardrums out
Holy shit this is the most adult Dhar Mann story. I unironically think this was a good story. Fucking HATE the boss, I really sympathize with the Mom, and this feels REAL. This happens with my mom, and so I personally actually really connect with this story. Thanks, Dharmannder. This was a great grounded video.
The more jarvis talks about pretty much everything the more i want him to do an early 2010s style draw my life. We have to bring those back and jarvis sounds like hes had an interesting life so far
I also thought this was a normal dhar mann opening and I thought it was kind of sweet the way the dad say okay to reassure the little girl. Also, I like the commentary about the toxic workplace culture Jarvis mentioned. The company will never give you the time of day but acts like its workers need to always prioritize the company before anything else
I'm not really going to call him comic super villian, because multiple of my bosses have been like this to me AND my coworkers, not being allowed to leave for a funeral of a loved one to unalived themself, being scolded for staying home to help my dying father, my guy, that boss is the standard of the working class in my life experience.
Agreed. I would have laid that phone down on the table and left for the trip. If the boss got angry when I got back I would just say that my daughter forced me to leave my phone behind so that she could have my undivided attention.
I think it was France that passed a law a few years back that makes it illegal to contact employees in their off hours/vacation time/etc... with work matters. No emails, voicemails, phone calls, etc... When they are off the clock, they are legally protected from being constantly roped back into working off the clock or constantly available to work. I was amazed and wished that the US would do the same- that is kind of a huge step for something so simple that we should already have: the ability to have that work life balance, the ability to shut off.
There's something comforting about watching these particular jarvis videos, I think I just enjoy someone ripping I to dhar manns content in such a creative way Oh dear I just noticed the title, jesus christ dhar.
The Frozen bit at the end is SENDING me. Why are they all clapping after “I’m guessing you don’t have much experience with heat”? That’s the cue line for In Summer??? Why didn’t the music start up? Why are they applauding like it’s the end of the scene??? They’re all parents of elementary schoolers, they’ve got to know that much of Frozen by now. What????
Yeah my last job a coworker said that his father was dying and they wouldn't let him have time off to go see him the dad died and he lived to regret it. Since then I refuse to let companies control me.
"You're not married or a mother, you don't need a life!" Bro it's too real, I live frugally so I can work part time and every time someone asks me to come in on a day off and I say no, it always goes into "are you in school? do you have another job? are you married/do you have kids?". Like jeez man I don't need some socially acceptable reason to want to have a life, I work to live not the other way around and unlike this lady I'm not afraid to say so. 🙄
And yeah, I definitely see this one playing out like the one about a presentation from a while back, where she was fired, bumped into her old client, and was hired by him.
I study English and a big part of my coursework ended up being on American Modernism, and the notoriously horrendous working conditions of the 1900’s have continued, but with an added layer of societal expectation around it. The parallels are shocking and only get more insidious when you consider how ingrained in our society it’s become
the boss is literally our old store manager [because i work at a grocery store]. when i was sick and called in for the first time he told me to get over it or "you should've planned better" or stuff like that when i was doing all the work for the entire department basically because everyone else was lazy or called in every weekend
once, when i worked at Wendy's my best friend died and i found out on the clock. I asked to leave to go home. My manager said, and I quote: "I was here when my mom died and my wife divorced me. You can't let that get to you, you just have too work through it" sir. this is a wendys (i left two weeks later because of a second incident)
The director of my department at my old job once left her family over the Christmas holiday and drove for hours, in the snow, to the CEO’s country home for a wet signature on a really important contract. She got her promotion on the strength of that. Her husband divorced her. What companies reward you for often is totally counter to what’s healthy in your personal life.
My dad used to work for a hotel as the only maintenance man and they would call him for literally things like pushing a button to turn the air conditioner on or taking out the trash. They had him on call 24/7 because of this and he wasn't allowed to leave town at all. It was fucked up.
As an employee in switzerland, seeing stuff like that is wild for me. I get 23 days of paid vacation, i get paid time of to go to the doctor and i have unlimited „sick days“ as long as i bring a doctors notice. And thats the standard in Switzerland
Non-competes genuinely don't hold up in Cali because there are so many tech/broadcasting/entertainment businesses that would basically prevent people from getting another job if they were fired or decided to leave their jobs. Actual good-guy California moment.
it's so nice to hear jarvis voice these problems about many work places. I've had so many instances of jobs doing stuff like this to me. at my current job I got covid for the first time and was understandably not able to come in until I was negative again. when I got back they told me they took ALL my PTO without my permission cause I was sick and said I had no choice about it. I also had another job where they tried to make me come in on the day of my graduation when I had called it off months in advanced. I was also told I had to come in even though I had just gotten into a bad car accident earlier that day and was told that wasn't a valid excuse. in conclusion, I hate all the jobs I've had.
the show was about to start when the boss came in and asked her to stay back in the first place too 😭 unless she can teleport or the office is literally next to her daughter’s school, there’s no way she would have been on time even if her boss wasn’t terrible lmao
Haven't even finished but as soon as she's like 'he's been dangling that promotion in front of me' I got so upset. It's such a manipulative thing to dangle a promotion that I guarantee you'll never get. They just do it as a threat. Also don't feel bad about saying her actings bad. I agree. From the start it really put me off.

Pro tip: if your work calls you as you’re about to leave for a vacation, you’ve already left for vacation. You’re gone, dead to the world, you’ve gone on vacation to the moon for all they know because they’ve called you 20 times and you haven’t answered because your vacation includes the time before you leave
Spitting facts. See a call from your boss right before you're about to get in the car? Sorry buddy, I can't take calls on an airplane byeeee
@@cheeto.burrito yep her needs to set them boundaries - like sorry didn't see you call
Right. She fucked up by answering the call.
I’m on vacation the second I clock out after my last shift before vacation.
@@NyxThorngage Any higher up saying something about being family is a red flag for me at this point.
I live in an at will state. I have no choice.
Alternatively say "leave me the fuck alone, I'm on vacation"
@@Bee-rt5qfI think I’d rather answer and say I physically cannot make it to work, rather than let them think I’m ignoring the call. Even if nothing will change if they think that, they will think less of you and you lose out on any chance of a raise or promotion. It’s the hard truth, unfortunately.

I think it’s because kids wouldn’t understand

When I was 10, I would’ve reacted the exact same way.
for real. the way people immediately wished death on the child the second she voiced her opinion over her mom never being there really disgusted me. she wasn’t there when her mom was under that toxic workplace, and she wasn’t there when she quit the job, through the kids perspective all she knew was broken promises and never seeing her mom until it was too late.
they showed so much empathy for the kid until she had a realistic reaction to everything going around her. this has clearly been something that has happened consistently over the years, of course she's gonna be upset if her mom is never there. if they can criticize these videos for having children with unrealistic emotional maturity, then I don't understand why they immediately did a 180 the second she got upset like any child would

The abuse of power is insanely real and it’s real icky to see mr. mann trivialize it like he does with most other serious topics.
oh my god me too! it was terrible.
I'm pretty sure he was a drunk but his name is Alan Du, and he has failed inspections before and has nothing but abuse charges in his credit while owning this store.

what's with all the unnecessary hate towards kids in chat? the moment a child voices any negative emotion the chat is filled with "DEMON CHILD" "this is why I hate children" "I'm about to punt this kid" "kids suckkkk" like wtf, the poor kid just broke her arm and obviously isn't old enough to understand the pressures of work - to her, it probably seems like her mom made a choice to go to work instead of stay with her. not to mention it's on the same day her mom left before a trip they'd been planning for months, a trip her mom pinky promised she'd be able to go on.
Chat is probably a bunch of kids themselves lol

I'M NOT KIDDING. last year i worked at a company where they referred to each other as their family. we were paid very little, for a lot of extra hours, and had to take vacations with the ceo, go get beers with him and his girlfriend (the vp, btw) whenever he'd say "hey, y'all wanna get a beer today after work?" and they literally had a thing called the "emotional health committee" to host games and stuff like that. i got fired because i'm mentally ill. we love self-awareness, don't we?
Let me guess, a fast food one or 7/11? Sonic?
Unreal.
ngl this dhar mann video had a fire script, the boss was so real it made my skin crawl, “snowflake policies” 😭 literally yelled it’s too accurate
Chat acting like its rude to suggest she start her own business when she is literally a career executive is hilarious.
When Jarvis said "SHUT the fuck up" @ 13:40 I felt that in my soul
Ikr i loved it
The little "eh" Jarvis gave at unlimited PTO after explaining the con of unlimited PTO got me.
This Dhar Mann video isnt any more over exaggerated than any other before it. It's just hits harder because this happens to this extreme all the time to the point that it has been normalized.
12:45 Boss: "I haven't had a day off in 3 years"
Also Boss:
* business trip to 5 star resort with golf course and country club
*sits in office in a nice chair just hanging out on his computer all day
* takes clients out for fancy dinners that start at lunch time and end at 2 AM at a high end cocktail bar
* "business trips" to thailand for the weekend
* can leave any time during work day to go party, have fun, shop, or eat, and still say he's "on the clock"
Yeah of course you haven't had "a day off" when every work day is just fun for you.
Gotta admit, this dharman video has to be better than most if Jarvis talks about the characters and story rather than the dharman tropes and goofs. GG dharman
Edit: ehh the ending is pretty rough.
She's so whiny. I know she's like being pulled both ways and is in a legitimately difficult situation, but at 23:40, when she's like "I tooolldd yyoooooouuuu" I wanna tear my own eardrums out
this really hits different after the past week huh
Yeah
@@bluemuffin8848have no idea what the context was this last year 😭
honestly whenever the boss appears i'm just imagining that's dhar mann
18:43 i'm here and same i'm kinda scared of what it's going to happen cuz this is such a real story so far
except for the fucking redemption of course
There's nothing quite like getting a double upload on Jarvis Johnson LIVE while currently watching Jarvis Johnson LIVE.
That creepy ass "atta girl" from the boss furrowed my brow so hard I got a headache
“Atta girl” is always a crazy line. Anyone who uses that you.. RUN. Get as FAR away from them.
I'm not really going to call him comic super villian, because multiple of my bosses have been like this to me AND my coworkers, not being allowed to leave for a funeral of a loved one to unalived themself, being scolded for staying home to help my dying father, my guy, that boss is the standard of the working class in my life experience.
Wait, Giovanni's? Yeah that lady shoulda quit, that business clearly has ties with Tean Rocket.
incredibly ironic considering what's happening rn with dhar mann
Honestly I dont think I would have picked up the phone, and let it ring out
Agreed. I would have laid that phone down on the table and left for the trip. If the boss got angry when I got back I would just say that my daughter forced me to leave my phone behind so that she could have my undivided attention.
i played olaf in frozen jr at my middle school in 8th grd, hearing the "yeah, why?" at the end there gave me WHIPLASH. those were such fun lines
There's something comforting about watching these particular jarvis videos, I think I just enjoy someone ripping I to dhar manns content in such a creative way
Oh dear I just noticed the title, jesus christ dhar.
The title right? It just shows how disconnected he is.
@@LacroixboiMarx he also works with like really problematic people sometimes lmao.
@@deerbo2 mmm like the father of the labrant family (who's anti-choice and clickbaits his children's issues) and sssniperwolf
this was realistic enough to be triggering for me as a child of a mother that barely ever had time for me on weekdays. Good job dhar mann writers!!
I wonder if Dhar Mann Studios has implemented these policies.
What????
The proper response to “oh good you’re still here” is “No sir I’m actively leaving as we speak”
A youtuber I watch once said “your children won’t remember the times that you do show up, but they won’t forger the times you don’t
This video feels weird because of what’s happening with Dhar Mann now
Yeah my last job a coworker said that his father was dying and they wouldn't let him have time off to go see him the dad died and he lived to regret it. Since then I refuse to let companies control me.
Also, I looked into it and Dhar Mann is right: non-competes aren't binding in the state of California, he doesn't have a leg to stand on.
Toxic boss is really dangling the proverbial carrot in front of her
"You're not married or a mother, you don't need a life!" Bro it's too real, I live frugally so I can work part time and every time someone asks me to come in on a day off and I say no, it always goes into "are you in school? do you have another job? are you married/do you have kids?".
Honestly the fact that she stayed there talking to her boss after learning that her daughter is in the ER is wild lol
once, when i worked at Wendy's my best friend died and i found out on the clock. I asked to leave to go home.
My manager said, and I quote: "I was here when my mom died and my wife divorced me. You can't let that get to you, you just have too work through it"
sir. this is a wendys (i left two weeks later because of a second incident)
The director of my department at my old job once left her family over the Christmas holiday and drove for hours, in the snow, to the CEO’s country home for a wet signature on a really important contract. She got her promotion on the strength of that. Her husband divorced her. What companies reward you for often is totally counter to what’s healthy in your personal life.
i genuinely could not finish the video because i hated the actors so much. the mom's voice was so GRATING and demeaning it drove me insane
Jeez this is one of the most anxiety-inducing Dahr Mann sketches I've seen
Non-competes genuinely don't hold up in Cali because there are so many tech/broadcasting/entertainment businesses that would basically prevent people from getting another job if they were fired or decided to leave their jobs. Actual good-guy California moment.
this is the plot of iconic film 9 to 5 i respect the hustle
it's so nice to hear jarvis voice these problems about many work places.
Her asking if she missed it. Like obviously ma'am.
the show was about to start when the boss came in and asked her to stay back in the first place too 😭 unless she can teleport or the office is literally next to her daughter’s school, there’s no way she would have been on time even if her boss wasn’t terrible lmao
@@sourpatchkids351 right he was so evil. I feel like I would have just left anyways. After he threatened her.
“DM Garden Services. DM Water. DM Loans.” I’m starting to hope it means Des Moines 😂 Dhar Mann Loans is outrageous
I don’t know if I can even watch this. 4 minutes in and my anxiety is through the roof.
Literally why
