Bought it for a few euros on Steam a while ago, and so far I've only played a few of Leon's campaign. I actually am enjoying it, and I think a 4.5 is way too low. But it does have quite a few flaws.
RE4 was freaking awesome, there were a few scares and the game was creppy start to finished, really well balanced, polished and most important of all, addictive and super fun to play. One of my favorite games of all times. RE6 is nothing like that, it is a weak action game at best.
I have played RE since the first on PSOne. RE6 was a fun game. Was it vintage RE? No. But the game did not deserve all the bad press it received, IMO. I have already played it through twice.
You can understand how bad the game is by the small details... It's OK to like it, but the game is bad. For example, when you need to drop off a ledge or ladder, the camera doesn't show you what's below, untill you start falling. And then, when you land, it does not return automatically behind, to show you what's in front of you. So, in an action game, the camera isn't showing you any potential traps below and then refuses to show you the enemies that might immediately attack you, after you land! There, one example of how the game fails not only as a RE game, but also as a game of what it was meant to be!
Don't get me wrong, Leon's campaign in RE6 was fun. But Chris's campaign? I might as well have loaded up Gears of War or Call of Duty if I wanted to play a "military shooter." RE6 purposely limits the ammo it gives you, presumably to increase tension yet in Chris's campaign you're constantly fighting entrenched enemies in cover-based shooting and you burn through that ammo very very quickly. Now, I'm so sorry but Resident Evil was NEVER cover-based shooting. Add in all the cheap QTE deaths (quick time event), the incoherent story, and the over-hype the game was given (ok maybe that was us fans desperately hoping that Capcom would get it right this time) and you can start to understand how us RE fans have seriously been let down. If you enjoy RE6 that's cool, more power to ya. The rest of us will shake our heads and hope that RE7 will be a great game but we're not maintaining high expectations.
It's not all about fun for example saints row 3 was fun but it's a hug downgrade from the previous titles if you don't tell a game how it is and over look the problems how can the game improve in future
There's no arguing that RE5 was a lot more focused on action, but it makes sense storywise. The difference between 5 and 6 is that 5 was a good 3PS that excused it from moving away from its roots. 6's QTEs, sloppy gameplay, pointless story, etc. etc. ETC. ETC... makes it a generous 4.5. It's a really bad 3PS, and it's an even worse RE-game. Whoever had creative control over this made every mistake imaginable.
***** He made positive reviews for Witcher 3 and BloodBorne. But then again, he does come off as the guy that really likes RPG games, and hates pretty much everything else.
4.5 really? come on, bit ridiculous when call of duty gets an 8 or 9 every year. i know this game is polarizing, but thats only if your an RE fan. Without the resident evil name how is this game much diffrent to the bazillion other third person shooters out there? many of which get like 8s or 9s?. People just love to jump on the bandwagon with this game. What makes me laugh is that people shit on this game and the 5th game, because their too actiony, yet people love the 4th game. Wasnt the 4th game the one that added all this action? I admit this game has many problems like the quicktime events and cheap deaths, but it also has some good qualitys that people overlook. The enemy designs for one, they are some of the best in a long time if you ask me. People bitch about how much the RE series has changed, yet those same people were complaining back in the 90's saying the camera angles and controls were dated. Capcom arent the only ones to blame, the RE fanbase can be really petty and bitchy about the slightest thing.
+The Infamous dog I agree with James Black. The game is pretty decent and clearly better than RE5 (more campaing, different points of view, better mechanics). In this review it seems that the reviewer punish more the game because its not what he expected rather than because how the game it is itself. I see 3 kind of people here: 1)RE fans that are upset with the new turn of the saga and usually they don't give and objective opinion about the game itself. 2)RE fans that acknowledge that the saga has change and try to give an opinion about how they feel about the game (knowing that its not a survival and trying to enjoy and action game). 3) Normal people that play the game as an action game and try to enjoy it.
+Vinnc3nt Yeah I definitively fall into category 2. I'm an oldschool RE Fan and I appreciate the survival horror aspects of the older games, but I still have fun with the more action based REs. I haven't purchased RE6 yet but I will soon just to see where the story is going. At the time when the demo came out I played it and liked it. I didn't get my panties in bunch just because it was more action based and less survival horror. I just accept the fact that its changed and I keep it moving.
I remember being so excited for this game. After finishing Leon's Campaign and briefly touching Chris's, I gave up and sold it back. Simply put, it's an awful experience.
That's exactly what happened to me! I could only finish Leon's campaign! Chris's campaign felt too much like a Call of Duty ripoff. Seriously, when you have cover-based shooting in a RE game, something has gone terribly wrong lol.
Joseph Ocasio you even managed to complete Leon's campaign? I haven't completed a single campaign, got so bored. It's just sitting in my library, can't even refund it😔
Such a beautiful example of what happens when a big budget dictates your game. They completely lost all the aspects of what made this game special. Turning your survival horror game into all games we've accumulated within the past 4 years, isn't going to make your game any better. Less is more in this situation.
I bought it for 13 dollars with the sole purpose of playing co-op with a friend. In this way it sure doesn't disappoint. Never had this much fun playing with a friend!
I honestly do not see why everyone hates this game, yeah sure it had a lot of action; but I felt like we got to see more into the characters and who they were, and how everything that has happened to them has affected them. Sure there could have been far less quick time events, but the story was absolutely amazing. Now I'm not saying this game is perfect, but it is not a 4.5 Capcom does not deserve all the hate
This is not a gamespot review , this is a review of a person working at game spot , this game was one of the best for its franchise . Giving it a 4.5 is a crime , now go play viva piñata .
Clichet8 dude I played RE the very first one in ps , at that time the only game that could compit with it was silent hill . That was in the early 90s . Now I am 35 years old and I know that the new generation players are never satisfied with whatever is there . They always want more . The game is not crap compared to other games , now compared to the old series yes it lacks a little of that atmosphere. But not being rated médiocre . We all know what is going on between capcom Japan and gamespot.
Is this game a true horror, survivor, game? No, its not...not even a bit. Is it a good third person shooter?? Yes! It is a great shooter! And as such I have to admit that its indeed really fun and I enjoyed it a lot! But if you are looking for a scary game such as the classic RE games, you wont find it in RE6. But the game is extremely gorgeous, with some awesome set pieces, cool creatures to kill, nice weapons, and it has a loooong story mode...I mean for a third person shooter (it takes around 20-25 hours to complete on the normal difficulty!!) So...for $10 bucks (or even less in some places), Id totally recommend RE6 to any one wanting to shoot at something byhimself or with a buddy (co-op). Go for it, you wont regreat!
I'm glad I ignored this review. Subjectively, the game is a bad resident evil game, that changes the formula too much and is not scary at all . . . but I only think that because I'm a resident evil fan. Yet I enjoyed this game . . . its actually a very good game! ts an 8/10. Its a very fun co-op shooter with tons of content. Some people cant separate their preferences and fanboyism from what is actually objectively good. If you just changed the name of the game, or if this wasn't a part of the core series, like it was a spin-off or something, then all these people criticizing it would like it. So I can understand the hate it gets to some extent, but its a way better game than people give it credit for, they're just really biased.
I honestly dont know y u guys are complaining, because we all know when the next RE game comes out your going to get it anyway. Same thing happened with the RE5 and RE4 haters.
+Haruna Valentine Nope, actually i have played most of them (1,2,3,4,5, Code veronica, Darkside chronicles and 6) and yeah, i did enjoyed RE6 too. RE6 as an action game its quite entertaining, as survival... well, its not. The thing here it's that I completely understand how the saga is now, so im able to enjoy the game. So, I ask you again: Can you tell why you think this game deserves a 3/10 so we can discuss the matter properly? :D
+Vinnc3nt Ok, I willtry my best to explain to you why I think it is the worst RE ever made…My English is not very good too, but I will try making it very simple for you to understand. _RE4 was an excellent action third person shooting game, but it was not a good RE or horror game. _RE5 is the same thing, it was a great action game (not as good as 4 though) but was a terrible RE game too. _The problem with RE6 is that it’s not only worst RE/Horror game in the series, but also one of the crappiest games (action games) ever made in general. It has everything that I wouldn’t want in any of the RE game in the series. 6 is mostly full of flaws which are: 1) Camera is fucked up (the most fucked up camera in the series). Really have never seen anything like this before. It won’t stop shaking up left and right whether you made the position of the third person perceptive view right or left. Like for example if you made the position right, suddenly when you rotate the camera it goes in the middle and sometimes left too when at the same time you’re on in the right position of the view and vice versa. It made me feel a bit dizzy. It is really messed, at some points it’s also very close to the character too. 2) QTEs: (RE4 introduced it and that was BULLSHIT) most of the game play elements in 6 are very badly designed QTEs. Yes ‘’VERY BADLY DESIGNED’’ QTEs because of this RE6 was a very frustrating experience, and has no real game value to it. Even if the QTEs are simple or easy to use, it still covers most of the gameplay elements. Hello! We’re playing a SURVIVAL HORROR game, and games like that don’t need QTEs AT ALL. It actually felt more like an interactive movie video game (Full of cut scenes and QTEs) rather than horror/action game. Nobody asked for it!!! And I don’t think nobody will EVER want massively scripted QTEs in anyof RE games. It NEVER works for any horror game. 3 Horror Elements are absent: and that’s one of the main reasons why I think RE6 was an ABOMINATION!!! It had no horror AT ALL (Even Leon’s campaign was not scary), no atmosphere, no creepy soundtracks, just EXPLOSIONS and DISASTERS!!! What the heck!? What the hell was I playing again? I went to look back at the cover and HOLY COW!!!! It says RE6. Seriously you got explosions, planes hitting buildings, helicopter crashing into the high building, Michael bay action Hollywood movie and you call this ‘’RESIDENT EVIL’’? For a game to be called RESIDENT EVIL with such elements and features is a CRIME!!! And my question for you is this, Do you really want bombs and explosions in a supposedly horror game that goes by the name RE with need for speed and ace combat segments, with no horror or dark atmosphere to it? Do you honestly in you humble opinion want that in any of the future RE or horror games? 4)RE series is known for its very moody creepy atmospheric soundtracks and that what I think what made them very scary and so memorable. And yet, again this was absent in RE6. -__- RE5 had the same issue too towards the end of the game, but most of the game was filled with just amazing creepy soundtracks although the game itself was not scary. RE6 music was very crappy, so forgettable, unoriginal, not scary, not atmospheric…just terrible! 5)Story was very shitty too! Instead of making a unique horror interesting RE gaming story, It was an idea that we’ve seen a MILLION times in movies and many other video games that has zombie outbreaks, aside from RE series, explosions, etc. It felt like a total RIP OFF of these kinds of Hollywood movies. 6) Also characters’ personalities and designs like Leon, and Chris felt like they are not as good or unique as they were in the older installments. I don’t know, but they felt like a completely different characters than the ones that we knew and loved in the old games, but in a bad way. All in all, RE 6 is something I didn’t except from a great company as Capcom to do. The game with all its crappy features and elements felt like it was made by a company that has no experience in making good games whether horror or action. That’s just my opinion. And I think that’s how most of the RE fans especially old school ones see it.
+Vinnc3nt btw one more thing I forgot to say is the all the characters in all the previous installments are weak, and helpless which one of the factors that made these games true survival horror, but in RE6 you see the character have like super powers such as superhero comic characters which made it loose its horror factor...so No, simply unacceptable in RE game.
This is a weird game. The actual combat mechanics are really good for a third person shooter, but the level design and enemy encounters are absolutely terrible and don't facilitate the gameplay at all. It feels like two different studios designed the gameplay and level design.
Every time i listen to gamespot about any game. they seriously put me off playing it. But I Watched the review from IGN. and i actually thought i may enjoy this game. GAMESPOT have become too cocky, so cocky that they rarely offer any good reviews. and pull games down all the time. some of the staff there are over the top. One of gamespots staff members was pulling down a ps4 because he said it wasnt working right on his tv. yet this is a well known thing. and is easily fixed by holding down the start button for a few seconds. yet. what this guy said about the happenings of the ps4 seemed very far fetched and unrealistic. he told us that after ejecting his game a few times that the picture came on but then the console got worse. now ps4 and other consoles are not like sky tv or any device that connect by a scart cable. and some people expect the tv to just find the right channel but this is not how hdmi works. i expect that this guy didnt set up his ps4 correctly got in a paddy and broke his ps4 and then used his job to pull down sony because he simply didnt have the patience or brains to figure it out for himself. ive seen alot of arrogance from gamespot. I think they become too big too fast and started using the power they had to there advantage pulling down games and developers they dont like. and bigging up the ones they do like. Ive often listened to there reviews and been left wondering what the hell. that isnt the game ive seen. Ive really gone off gamespot. there just too cocky and arrogant. they dont really offer any explanations for most of there reviews and there reasoning. gamespot left me wondering if any of them are really true gamers of just a bunch of wanna be gamers. who think far too much about themselves and there site than they do about the games and the developers that actually give them a purpose. GAMESPOT really need a staff change. and a redesign. and a head check.
GAMESPOT R REALLY ESPECIALLY ABOUT THIS GAME REVIEW SUK ASS. THEY R BUYEST FOR SURE. THE GAME IS NOT A MASTERPIECE BUT IT STILL A GREAT GAME. ITS BETTER THAN WATCHING HOLLYWOOD CRAP MOVIE THAT CALLED RE. IT MAKES ME WONDER HOW THE GAME PRODUCERS GOT A AWESOME STORY WHEN BIG BUDGET HOLLYWOOD MAKE LAST 2 MOVIES A PILE OF CRAP. IF U PAY TO WATCH THAT CRAP U WILL BLOWN AWAY THE CUT SCENE IN THIS GAME. WELL THOUGHT 4 CAMPAIGN INCLUDE RE4 STYLE, RE 5 & GEARS OF WAR SHOOTER STYLE, IT ALSO HAS OLD PUZZLE RE 1 & 2 PUZZLE VERSION. THE GAME HAS SOME REAL SCARY MOMENT N REALLY GOOD DRAWN MONSTERS & BOSSES. CO-OP JUST AWESOME. ONLY DOWN SIDE ABOUT THIS GAME IS CAMERA ANGLE SOMETIMES SHAKES. IF U LIKE TO PLAYING RE4 & 5... IF U LIKE A SHOOTING GAME... THEN U WILL LOVE THIS GAME.
Resident Evil: Degeneration (CGI Movie) Writter - Shotaro Suga Resident Evil: Damnation (CGI Movie) Writter - Shotaro Suga (DRUM ROLL) Resident Evil 6 (Game) Writer - Shotaro Suga This is why RE6 is what it is, which is an interactive CGI movie. Resident Evil 7 Writters - Pretty please. Yasuyuki Saga, Yasuhisa Kawamura, James Wan, Noboru Sugimura, Shinji Mikami, Antony Johnston, Kenichi Ueda.
Resident Call of Evil Duty. I love this review. Its great to see such a forward and honest review of a game instead of a paid plug. That last scene summed up my entire experience playing through this game. Its as if Capcom is making you watch these QTEs multiple times to justify the amount of money they spent making an interactive movie.
If I wanted to see cut scenes every second, I'd watch a movie. The old resident evils are classics, but these newer games are a disgrace. And I'm still mad about Devil May cry.
Forget the title of the game. As a standalone action game it's not even mediocore. The gameplay mechanics, AI, story, pacing and level layout is TERRIBLE. I'm very forgiving when it comes to games, but this one was one of the most irritating games I've ever played. I still can't believe the sheer amount of quick time events they shoehorned into the game.
This game is absolutely trash and deserved every bit of hate that it gets. A rating of 4 probably suits it right. People who like this game think it's good because they probably got it for $5-10 in a bargain bin. For a price like that, and super low expectation, any game can be enjoyable.
Completely honest review. This game is horrible. Horrible in-game graphics, horrible gameplay, horrible story, horrible dialogue. Completely laughable game, especially for the Resident Evil series.
Yeah my ex girlfriend gave me it, think I will just leave it in the plastic, maybe sell it somewhere. Most reviews of RE6 are not positive, basically annoying "action movie" mess. The only thing keeping the dust off my PS3 is Netflix and bluerays.
ConejoZing The game is so bad I played with friends and we all rage quit after laughing at it for a small bit but getting quickly angered with just how unlaughably bad it really is. I would say play it. Laugh at it, then experience the pain of how pitiful it is. Then find your ex, and re-dump her for ever giving you that game.
ConejoZing dude im playing it so far and im enjoying the leon campaign; that's the thing about critics; if they dislike a game, then everybody else dislikes the game; don't listen to everything the critics say; they have their own tastes and preferences and you have yours; give the game out a try and see what you think
Bobby Faison horrible is abit too harsh dont u think it has one of the good graphic amongst the other give credit to that atleast , plus any RE series that has leon in it would be a kickass
Ak47 yea i just replayed this game recently and i just found that this game wasn't actually as bad as i remembered..it does has it's flaws but it just wasn't that horrible..guessed i let these reviews cloud my judgements of this game back then..
Anyone who thinks this game is bad or garbage is probably an objective fanboy. Yes this game is more action packed than the original RE games but its been like that since RE4!! Which people think is arguably the best in the series. This game has solid game play, improved AI, amazing fun story, cool co-op and tons of content. Capcom really did an amazing job but it's true recognition and credit is over shadowed by terrible main stream reviews and dumbass objective fanboys who want the same game over and over again.
In my opinion, if your review has almost 50% of agreed people and disagree people, that means that your review its clearly NOT objective. Meanwhile other people give the game a 7 or 8, you gave it a 4,5. I don't understand.
I honestly can't see how someone trying to be objective could give this an 8 or higher. It's all over the place; so much so that it made me wonder if two different teams at Capcom put it together. It goes out of its way to keep you from being immersed in the game. The QTEs were actually one of the smaller issues i had; the terrible camera, awful inventory system and constantly taking control away from you was unbelievably irritating.
I also loved all the resident evils, even Raccoon city . Number 5 got boring at parts though. This reviews are weird and talk bad of the perks, like the new system that lets you throw yourself wherever you want and when you get the hang of it, your reaction times are better. Still need to buy Revelations. :P
exactly lol i love the new mechanic its just a more fun :p but i do love me some old classic gameplay style but if i wanted that id pop my old RE in no problem :) and Problem solved
Pretty much man those where the days of getting the shit scared out of you you had RE in one corner then Silent Hill then whats this? a random uppercut to the face by Fatal Frame
Ah! yes my friend how to forget those... our species is a dieing breed. We grew up with those games, pixels leaving the horrors to our imagination. Then trying to investigate everything that always yield a description ( pushing the interaction button xD). Good times, Good times.
I played this in my non-stop weed smoking days. I can't remember much about this game other than it sucked. This is coming from a HUGE Resident Evil fan.
Dorian Stark It's probably because after 4 they started making most RE games co-op and in RE4 you had that desolated feeling, because theres wasnt anyone to back you up, if anything you were the one to back up others like ashley, oh yeah and the boss fights in RE4 were dark and the bosses actually required you to do certain things like freeze them, that's why i think RE has gone downhill since 4
I just picked this up last week, and yeah its not scary, but its so much fun, Holly Shit fuck you gamespot, maybe at worst you can give this a 6, it does have some infuriating elements to it, but damn its just fun killing the zombie/monsters in this thing.
this reviewer is well known for nitpicking , others would've give it a mediocre score , i thought 6 would be fare too eventhough i hate the majority of it , if they can fix the camera i think it would be much better for me ( i can't see crap the characters are way too big )
I am an oldschool RE fan and this game deserves at least a 6/10 ! It has a great if not the best mercs mode out there, great and varied controls and a lot of content. I will agree I also disliked it at first but now that the dust has settled I can see some of its good aspects :]
Vampires Crypt yea,6 or 7 is a good score for this game...in my books 4.5 is a score for a game that is littered with gamebreaking bugs/barely playable and a chore to play which is definitely not this game...
lyhthegreat Kevin Van Ord even hated Lost Planet 2 because it was "too hard" for him rofl LP2 is really one of the most underrated games by Capcom it had one of the best co-op and boss encounters and overall graphic fidelity for its time. Played the PC version to death and still think that game deserved a 8/10 but Kevin gave it like a 6 or so lol
+lyhthegreat True, that is a score reserved for games that are near broken, like you said. Kevin sounds like an intelligent reviewer but then when he awarded his score...I had to question that intelligence. Lol
Some people like me actually sit down and play resident evil 6, not watch a video from someone's else's opinion, a lot of people love this game, that's good, but some people, SOME FUCKING PEOPLE
RE6 innovated on what the series has gave us, yeah it lacked Survival Horror but the Story was intact, plenty of variety in gameplay, the characters were as well intact and the huge backdrop of the story made sense as well as introduce some really cool gameplay and Co-op options. I guess people would just like to see the series go backwards or stay the same without innovation, having said this a Reboot and a retreat backwards taking out some of the gameplay, cinematic presentation, mechanics etc would only kill the series. They could easily pump out 1-2 more games with a very satisfying ending to the Virus, its characters and overall lesson to RE. RE6 yes has its flaw in the genre its in but it also improved on the series as a whole especially if people thought RE4 was "One of the best" which i agree it is. RE7 just needs to be RE6 with a more Darker,Grittier atmosphere, More tense Situations and have a Tighter more personal story. This is coming from someone who played 2-6 including Code X Veronica having 3&2 being my favorite of them all. They should Add the lacked features or even Molding the current features to fit more of a survival situation rather then take away anything..i believe if they do this then RE7 will have raised the bar for Survival Horror. In the meantime ill be playing The Evil Within while still having high hopes in RE7 to REALLY carry Triple AAA survival horror to the top.
To be fair, the multiplayer has been around since RE5. RE6 didn't really add anything new except for the ability to play as the monsters and attack "the good guys." As for the game itself, yeah Leon's campaign was fun. But for fck's sake, Chris's campaign was a cheap crappy Call of Duty imitation. Seriously, the game restricts how much ammo you're given yet you're forced to shoot at entrenched enemies 100+ feet away and you only have at most 120 rounds in that assault rifle of yours. Also, that brings me to another huge problem: RE WAS NEVER ABOUT COVER BASED SHOOTING. The fact that they implemented it in RE6 (and to a lesser degree, in RE5) just screams Call of Duty ripoff. Now, I'm not hating on you. If you enjoyed RE6 that's fine. There are things to like about it. But IMHO, Capcom has been focusing way too much on the action and not enough on the horror or even good gameplay.
+Asuna Yuuki I enjoyed it more than 4 to,but for 4 the environments suck to me..village..castle..small catacombs..and than a island..wow....inspiring..
The funny thing about what you said that comes to mind is in the older RE games there are very few times when you have no choice but to fight.RE6 isn't the same as you hafta kill almost everything in your path.So that playthrough that you saw was the players choice to spend most of his/her time shooting and that's one of the things that made the older RE games great "you had a choice".
I came back to this review just to say, it's so true! Been doing a marathon of RE games with a friend who never played them, last modern RE games being RE5, RE:R and RE:R2, those are all excellent games. RE6 is one big mess, and my friend was completely surprised how unenjoyable it was. It's completely clunky, AVOID
They really went quantity over quality with the campaigns (which were plenty lengthy as they are) which makes it tedious to play, I hated the vehicle chases since they dragged, and when it comes to the games plot, you can skip this game and miss absolutely nothing
Forgot to mention the part that you can't technically PAUSE the game. When you "pause," your character kneels down and you access your menu, but if there are zombies around you WILL GET HIT. The game actually saves at the end of the section of a chapter. I find the camera angles terrible and the controller settings annoying.
A very honest review. Even RE5 had more tension than RE6. The partner can`t even die or get hurt and the scenarios are big. Why should I care if I can run thought it?
+Gustavo Cruz I disagree. I don't understand where if the problem if the scenarios are big and you can run. Actually It's more accurate to think that a BSAA guy can run faster than was Chris doing in RE5. Stop thinking this as a survival horror, its not anymore, even RE5 wasn't.
Vinnc3nt Even without horror resident evil can be a good action game. RE4 and RE5 proved that. But for me RE6 was a horrible game. With so many problems. Because they throw away everything that they did right in the past games...
+Gustavo Cruz But what problems have RE6? I still don't understand! What they did throw away?? For god sake, they give it a 4,5! its the same number they gave to RE Operation Racoon city! D:
Well, as i recall, I could play all RE5 doing melee with all the normal enemies. In Re4 and RE5 they had big weak spots too, and for me the story of RE5 is worst than RE6. The thing is that i can't accept this review (this video), because i can tell its not objective. It seems to be done by a fan that is dissapointed with the saga not being survival horror anymore. If you do this kind of job, you have to be objective.
Vinnc3nt Yes both R5 and R6 has massive yellow weak spots. A lazy immersion breaking tutorial esq design mechanic (on ending bosses mind you) that don't contribute shit either to R5 or 6,. You have not even adressed what your objective criteria the review missed. His problem is with *the game* not with the genre as a action game. And yes they try both horror and action. Just play Leon campain Massive use of bad Qte* (spinning circle press R1 in the right moment and twin stick flipping Boring A.I design as in enemies Stupid amount of cutsences that are pointless and break both tension of the gameplay during bosses and .dont evole the character stories, motives or personalities at all! Many runing events repeating throughout the game and adressed by the video Instant death by a sneaking Qte after a 3min cutscene is the bottom of interactive fun making you die faster for wrong button prompts than a challenge from the monsters in the actual thing. Repeating levels that are in all four Stories making it more redundant. You are harping on As A FAN retoric that has nothing to do with objectivty. You are making a big assumption that he scored it low becasue he did not like the genre.... so much for objectivity huh...?
GameSpot Melee prompts are not QTEs. Your just pressing a button to interact with your enemy in a specific way. Your never forced into them. This review makes it seem like this game is nothing but a string of QTEs but doesn't understand what a QTE is.
BUT...let's not forget he tried and succeeded in killing Dante once, and tried to kill him two times later on. How's that protecting the last thing close to him? And him unleashing demons into the world only adds to the destruction he wrought. The new Vergil is dishonorable. But after killing Mundus he stated he wanted to govern humans, not to rule over them. Although I admit he was a backstabber, since he quickly rejected Kat, I still find him more tolerable than the original's hypocrisy.
IMO, the worst thing about this game is how it forces damage on you. A zombie will grab you, which you cannot avoid, and as you are going through the quicktime event to get the zombie off you, you are being dealt damage the entire time. It's unavoidable. The zombies are always f*cking grabbing you, and just the grab takes your health away.
If this game doesn't have QTE,doesn't have Locked-camera-chase-scene,doesn't pull camera control away from me to have me watch something, Doesn't have vehicle sections,Have a wider FOV and better Keyboard and mouse control...... I'd say this game is pretty good
I wish they stoped all the crap the started making after RE3 and make us relive the thrill of true "survival" and "horror". You don't need tons of monsters running at you. Just "one" you can hear itching, scratching, but can see him while you only have 3 bullets left in your beretta and you know it'll take 7 bullets to take him down wherever he is. This is RE to me, not this bullshit.
But in DMC3 after he defeated Dante, he took his sword as as Dante tried to get up, Vergil heartlessly plunged his sword through Dante. I don't know what the deal is with him getting stabbed by his own sword. It's like a running gag. But still, even if the new Vergil did plan on ruling, his motives were still more beneficial than what the original had planned.
difficulty doesn't make a game scary, if anything it will make it frustrating and less scary. The moment you die, the fear of dying is actually lessened because it has already happened. A perfect survival horror game is just difficult enough to let the player barely escape with their life.
i have to disagree and completely disagree with you. you say the good ol days are more about action? wow really did you really played this game?? its like fucking cod its like watching those micheal bay actions movies but make it worse then you get re6. the camera angle back then is what makes resident evil scary you didnt know what you expect when you reach a corner and its not about action lol its all about surviving you can actualy finish the game without killing a zombie. lol
I would argue Resident Evil 3 was one of the worst in the series, as it was just more of the same from Resident Evil 2. Nemesis was just a more aggressive Mr. X... Capcom reused the Police Station from RE2 and didn't do anything new. Resident Evil 4 gave the series new life with its new gameplay mechanics. The over the shoulder gameplay perspective from RE4 has been copied in plenty of games since because it worked THAT well.
How is it so hard for people to understand why so many Resident Evil fans dislike this game? Resident Evil invented the survival horror genre and was very unique. Not many games could ever really capture the feeling you'd get from playing Resident Evil (with Remake being a fantastic example!). You always had a sense of dread while treading the various locations throughout the games knowing that at any moment something could pop out of nowhere and end you (and scare the shit out of you in the process). The music did a fantastic job of immersing you into the experience. Every door you would enter would make you anxious about what's on the other side. Your limited ammo, limited saves, and limited inventory only added to the feeling of dread upon encountering an enemy. You needed to plan out your attacks, and how you managed your items/ammunition, because if you don't use your resources sparingly, you might as well just embrace your death. Even the puzzles in the game would occasionally add another layer of tension. That is what Resident Evil was known for. The only thing these newer games share is a story. That's it. They are an empty shell. Only a remnant of the greatness they once were, and it's sickening. Imagine the reaction of hardcore Call of Duty players if the Call of Duty series had taken a turn towards a side-scrolling duck-and-cover shooter, because that's basically how many of us Resident Evil fans view the Resident Evil series today. They aren't Resident Evil. They're a disgrace.
+Dan “Brainwave Inspector” Mober This series hasn't been like that for 10 years so why all of a sudden does RE6 get singled out? The Story of the game has expanded beyond walking around a scary house anticipating jump scares. It is purely nostalgia which drives the hatred. I loved playing the old Resident evil games and they gave me lots of cool memories which wont be replicated by the newer games because they were a part of my childhood. However if you look at those games OBJECTIVELY, they had extremely bad controls, Cheesy dialogue and far fetched plot elements to the point that when I play those games now retrospectively they are almost comical. The only reason I would of found the old games scary was probably to do with the fact that I was a 10 year old when I was playing them compared to now being a man in his mid 20's in a modern era where jump scares have been done to death and violence and gore in video games is the norm. If you just want jump scares then why dont you just play the numerous click baity, no substance, jump scare simulator games that are really popular right now.
Well, just keep in mind that Capcom talked about a reboot 3 times for the last 4 games...After 3, they were talking about a reboot(not the story, the style and gameplay).4 was good(but not as a Resi game) and 5 came. After that, they said they needed a reboot, again and made Revelations which just baffled them...Now, after 6, they are talking about rebooting it again...These are not signs of a healthy franchise.
There was no lies told in this review.
Bought it for a few euros on Steam a while ago, and so far I've only played a few of Leon's campaign. I actually am enjoying it, and I think a 4.5 is way too low. But it does have quite a few flaws.
Im pretty sure they da same people that praised da disgrace: saints row da third
Im with you bro.
4400seriesFAN and because of that it's a bad game? WOW
Thank God that RE7 brought back the survival horror we know and love.
Between RE4, RE5 and RE6, I loved Revelations the most.
Agreed
Resident evil 4 was amazing, re 5 was a good game, re 6 is crap
Natanhael Alvarado ...I have to play 5 and 6 because I got both. I am so not looking forward to playing 6.
Vinnypopper its like u choosing tacos between grilled chicken and shish kabab
I know right.
I'm so glad 7 went back to it's horror roots.
But it's nothing like how it was in the first three, it's almost like an amnesia game(which isn't bad, but in this case it's not resident evil)
michael bosket resident evil7 is basically pt
Jennifer1382 naw but i actually be good, just people might review this game and say that exact same thing, did you buy it
michael bosket 6 is just a bad action game
It plays nothing like PT...
man i bought this for like $20 and thought "how can I go wrong? It's Resident Evil... and it's $20. It can't be THAT bad." I was sadly mistaken.
Whatever, i LOVED RE6
EXACTLY!!!
I thought it was pretty decent.
Falfool me and a busy are playing it now together it's a blast
Same here! Loved it!
Clown
There's no arguing that RE5 was a lot more focused on action, but it makes sense storywise. The difference between 5 and 6 is that 5 was a good 3PS that excused it from moving away from its roots. 6's QTEs, sloppy gameplay, pointless story, etc. etc. ETC. ETC... makes it a generous 4.5. It's a really bad 3PS, and it's an even worse RE-game.
Whoever had creative control over this made every mistake imaginable.
I bought it for 3 dollars and boy am i loving it.
To be honest Kevin hates everything anyway
I see 3 kind of people here:
1)RE fans that are upset with the new turn of the saga and usually they don't give and objective opinion about the game itself.
It's just sitting in my library, can't even refund it😔
Hooga Shaaka me too mine just sitting up haven't completed no campaign
wtf Is this game that bad?! I'm really thinking of picking this game up because I never played it
Joe Ortiz don't buy it dude, trust me. Don't waste your money on this shit
Such a beautiful example of what happens when a big budget dictates your game. They completely lost all the aspects of what made this game special. Turning your survival horror game into all games we've accumulated within the past 4 years, isn't going to make your game any better.
Less is more in this situation.
+tnargtnarud Agreed, creativity arises when you have limited technology/budget, not limitless resources.
The story is a joke mate
It is absolutely a 4.5.
From what I played, I would give this game an 8. For a biased RE fan, this will be pretty bad, but luckily I am not biased. :))
+Mark Twain Like Caddicarus and Projared?
Agreed. This is one of the first games I got for PS3, and I still go back and enjoy it.
4.5? thats a bit too high
+Caleb S Funny fact. Other reviewers from IGN and game trailers gave it a 7-8 out of 10.
+chan young Choi Because they are more realistic than being a bias reviewer.
***** Bias reviewer?
Reviews arent the GOD WORD. use your own mind. . .
This is not a gamespot review , this is a review of a person working at game spot , this game was one of the best for its franchise . Giving it a 4.5 is a crime , now go play viva piñata .
If you played other Resident Evil games, you would know that RE6 is one of the worst in the series.
***** i also played the old resident evil games and this one and 4 are my favourites
Clichet8 Actually, that goes to Gaiden.
+MaximumGameplay Viva Pinata is pretty fun.
Classic RE games weren't scary..
Back in 1996 when I was 10...it was scary!!
+Shayan Siddiqi Resident Evil Remake was scary. Even if you're 40. That game was a masterpiece. Alien Isolation and Amnesia ain't got shit on it.
Dan Mober Alien Isolation is one of the best horror games I have ever played!
It's not the best RE game but it's still fun.
Kevin: "Resident Evil 6 isn't a smart game."
I laughed so hard.
this wasn't a review, just a bashfest that made no sense, I could only laugh with pity
So I can understand the hate it gets to some extent, but its a way better game than people give it credit for, they're just really biased.
its a bad game.. i gave up on survival horror since RE4.. i only expected a good game.. and RE6 disappointed me.
RE6 had a good story, but bad gameplay. There were far too many quick time events for m to enjoy it as a game.
I don't mind a change of formula as long if the game is fun which t is
I honestly dont know y u guys are complaining, because we all know when the next RE game comes out your going to get it anyway. Same thing happened with the RE5 and RE4 haters.
Resident evil 4 was awesome its literally one of the best games ever made.
agree 100%, but the score is too low, I will give 6.5/10
Ever since they released RE 4 I knew the series was going downhill :-/
Me too bro
good honest rview
I'm not a troll. I like the game and dont understand why others dont. I can do more in this game than 90 percent of other third person shooters
This is what Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw would call a prime example of a spunkgargleweewee game.
This crap of a game is 3/10 AT BEST!!! 4.5 is too high!
+Haruna Valentine Alright, can you explain me why exactly? (just asking, i enjoyed the game, so i would like to know what i'm missing).
+Vinnc3nt you enjoyed the game??? really? was this your first RE game?
+Haruna Valentine Nope, actually i have played most of them (1,2,3,4,5, Code veronica, Darkside chronicles and 6) and yeah, i did enjoyed RE6 too. RE6 as an action game its quite entertaining, as survival... well, its not. The thing here it's that I completely understand how the saga is now, so im able to enjoy the game. So, I ask you again:
Can you tell why you think this game deserves a 3/10 so we can discuss the matter properly?
6 is mostly full of flaws which are:
1) Camera is fucked up (the most fucked up camera in the series).
What was the score????
4.5 😂 this game is garb
Are you kidding? Watching Helena get turned into ground beef made me hungry.
Just got the game.. cant wait to try it out
Honestly, I wish the main series of "Resident Evil" ended with "Resident Evil 5".
This is a weird game.
The actual combat mechanics are really good for a third person shooter, but the level design and enemy encounters are absolutely terrible and don't facilitate the gameplay at all. It feels like two different studios designed the gameplay and level design.
I agree. There are random segments that have good level design, are light on QTEs and have good pacing. Then it all goes to shit. It's bizarre.
This game is a fucking mess, a train wreck
The person who taught you english should be fired from every teaching again.
4.5 is a generous score, I'd give it a 3/10 at most. The game was wank.
Same here! The game is pretty disappointing, not to mention it doesn't have the survival horror charm like the previous games did.
Resident Evil: Degeneration (CGI Movie)
Writter - Shotaro Suga
Resident Evil: Damnation (CGI Movie)
Writter - Shotaro Suga
(DRUM ROLL)
Resident Evil 6 (Game)
Writer - Shotaro Suga This is why RE6 is what it is, which is an interactive CGI movie.
Resident Evil 7
Writters - Pretty please.
You're god damn right!
This game is absolutely trash and deserved every bit of hate that it gets. A rating of 4 probably suits it right. People who like this game think it's good because they probably got it for $5-10 in a bargain bin. For a price like that, and super low expectation, any game can be enjoyable.
*sigh* nope
It's not trash. It's just a bad game with a couple of cool things especially the Leon part.
I got it for 2.99. At willow games lol.
basically Leon's campaign was Res Evil 1, 2 & CV, Chris' was Res Evil 4 & 5 and Jake's was Res Evil 3
0 for this game
Totally agree!
8 years later and this review was right. Idk why others were trying constantly to defend this game. I’m glad gamespot did a great review here.
Leon's campaign was the only decent one imo.
Super human jiggling speeds? I lol'd.
THIS GAME BLOWS!!!!!!!!
BLOWS YOU AWAY??? ME 2
I only ever played the demo for this, and the demo put me off
billyblackburn87 same here. I kept asking myself "am I sure that this is Resident Evil?"
Same here! The game is pretty disappointing, not to mention it doesn't have the survival horror charm like the previous games did.
The QTEs were actually one of the smaller issues i had; the terrible camera, awful inventory system and constantly taking control away from you was unbelievably irritating.
re6 isnt even a decent action game anyway
play max payne 3 or vanquish
RE6 was a mess, especially with the prepatched camera.
@@ArabianFreedom hated thar camera. No wonder i didnt beat it. And ive beaten every main re entry besides this and 0
lol The hate is so strong :P oh well ik i enjoyed all the Resident Evil's even Operation Raccoon City
I also loved all the resident evils, even Raccoon city . Number 5 got boring at parts though. This reviews are weird and talk bad of the perks, like the new system that lets you throw yourself wherever you want and when you get the hang of it, your reaction times are better. Still need to buy Revelations. :P
exactly lol i love the new mechanic its just a more fun :p but i do love me some old classic gameplay style but if i wanted that id pop my old RE in no problem :) and Problem solved
carreon0425 Yeah, nothing like the classics, I have the old ones and gamecube ones too. Always good to go back to the anxiety xD
I wish they bring resident evil back to its roots :(
It is now going back with resident evil 2 remake
Never evolve a series beyond it's own identity.
I played this in my non-stop weed smoking days. I can't remember much about this game other than it sucked. This is coming from a HUGE Resident Evil fan.
you know what else had quicktime events RE4
It sure did. That's where the series became more action oriented. It's the only one that had a perfect blend of action and horror
Dorian Stark It's probably because after 4 they started making most RE games co-op and in RE4 you had that desolated feeling, because theres wasnt anyone to back you up, if anything you were the one to back up others like ashley, oh yeah and the boss fights in RE4 were dark and the bosses actually required you to do certain things like freeze them, that's why i think RE has gone downhill since 4
Gaming Freaks I totally agree
I just picked this up last week, and yeah its not scary, but its so much fun, Holly Shit fuck you gamespot, maybe at worst you can give this a 6, it does have some infuriating elements to it, but damn its just fun killing the zombie/monsters in this thing.
this reviewer is well known for nitpicking , others would've give it a mediocre score , i thought 6 would be fare too eventhough i hate the majority of it , if they can fix the camera i think it would be much better for me ( i can't see crap the characters are way too big )
you know when there is almost 300,000 views with just as many thumbs down as there is to thumbs up, the game or review sucks
Played the PC version to death and still think that game deserved a 8/10 but Kevin gave it like a 6 or so lol
sorry i didn't play lp2 so i'm in no position to judge his review on that game however a score of 4.5 for this game is simply ridiculous imo..
+lyhthegreat True, that is a score reserved for games that are near broken, like you said. Kevin sounds like an intelligent reviewer but then when he awarded his score...I had to question that intelligence. Lol
Honest review .
What was the difference between this one and RE5 that made you hate it so much.
so many dislike why? this game is shit
I don't care what they said this is still The Best Resident Evil Games so far on PS4!, Leon and Chris is The Best in this Series!
Gamespot got it wrong.. THIS GAME KICKS ASS.
***** i don't think it just sucks .... I think it sucks balls !!!
shame for RE series.
Some people like me actually sit down and play resident evil 6, not watch a video from someone's else's opinion, a lot of people love this game, that's good, but some people, SOME FUCKING PEOPLE
this game is awesome, and I played on no hope mode, brutal!
RE7 needs to be a reboot
***** Rebooting won't make it automatically good.
+Asuna Yuuki I enjoyed it more than 4 to,but for 4 the environments suck to me..village..castle..small catacombs..and than a island..wow....inspiring..
This game is amazing must buy don't listen to these fake resident evil fans reviews just try it I mean I did and it is great.
Re6 is not good at all, it really doesn't make any sense that people are defending this game.
As not very good it is, I get that the series isn’t known for its story but even from that standpoint, you can skip this and miss nothing
i guess u can say, it may have been their first experience in the series or gaming in general 😂
Waste of good graphics.
The general idea was fantastic...how the fuck did they manage to screw this up so badly?
Forgot to mention the part that you can't technically PAUSE the game. When you "pause," your character kneels down and you access your menu, but if there are zombies around you WILL GET HIT. The game actually saves at the end of the section of a chapter. I find the camera angles terrible and the controller settings annoying.
I actually really liked dis game
Just play Leon campain
Massive use of bad Qte* (spinning circle press R1 in the right moment and twin stick flipping
Boring A.I design as in enemies
Stupid amount of cutsences that are pointless and break both tension of the gameplay during bosses and .dont evole the character stories, motives or personalities at all!
Many runing events repeating throughout the game and adressed by the video
Instant death by a sneaking Qte after a 3min cutscene is the bottom of interactive fun making you die faster for wrong button prompts than a challenge from the monsters in the actual thing.
Repeating levels that are in all four Stories making it more redundant.
You are harping on As A FAN retoric that has nothing to do with objectivty.
You are making a big assumption that he scored it low becasue he did not like the genre.... so much for objectivity huh...?
Michael Bay action + Uwe Boll ineptitude=RE6
GameSpot Melee prompts are not QTEs. Your just pressing a button to interact with your enemy in a specific way. Your never forced into them. This review makes it seem like this game is nothing but a string of QTEs but doesn't understand what a QTE is.
Revelations for the 3DS at least gives me hope for the future of the series. If they continue with this shit, it needs a serious reboot.
Its not that this kind of games isn't scary anymore. Its just that Gamer's standard of horror games have changed over the decade.
RE1 - I hate zombie, they are scary. RE6 - I fucking love zombies, I want more!!!
Don't forget RE1,2 and 3 mate, despite the outdated graphics, they had one of the best atmospheres in any Survival Horror videogames ever imho.
3 years later and the reviewer was right
i made the same mistake. i had a lot of fun with the RE5 co op mode, which is what made me want to buy this. i sold it after a day
