Just sharing my personal understanding - According to the Buddhist perspective, our birthdays remind us to express our Gratitude towards our parents for carrying us for ten months and the difficulties they had and the time, care and effort they put into caring for us when we were inside our Mothers' womb and when we were born, and being helpless and cannot defend ourselves...the painful and difficult problems our Mothers had to go through to carry us properly and giving birth to us. Without our parents' hardwork, effort and time taken to nurture, care and educate us to stay alive, to become where we are now with all the possibilities for us to working with ourselves to be healthy, successful and happy... Hence, on our birthdays are a good time to express our Gratitude and Appreciation by engaging in kind deeds, charities and saving and releasing those captured to be killed for food, medicine, clothings, shelter, entertainment, sports, experiment dedicating the merits in their name and honouring them. And because we have countless lifetimes, our parents are not just this lifetime, but countless lifetimes. Thank you.
