Wow! I heard remember soo often and I didn’t even know how it came to be! Pretty impressive that his timing and pocket is that good! In one take!!! Mindblowing! Incredibly tasteful drumming and killer sound!
Those drums are tuned really well. It doesn't hurt that Curt is a human metronome and "plays" his drums and the cymbals. Too many guitar-oriented mixes push the drums back in the mix. Great job as usual Pete! Awesome mix!
There is nothing better in the world than a great drummer. I've been lucky enough to play with top-notch drummers in my life and they are always the coolest. Thanks for the vid Pete!
Pete, I am a BIG fan! A friend of mine is the designer of all the AxeFX main circuit boards (Ed Dame) and he turned me on to your channel when I heard the AFX for the first time. Love your content, LOVE your playing, and your total command and understanding of all the technology and HOW TO USE IT PROPERLY in the real world, understanding the way things work in the analog world even if you are using a plug-in that simulates it. Then there's the fact that you are a beast of a musician and guitar player. Anyway, I FINALLY resurrected my recording studio by listing all the gear I don't need anymore for sale, and downsizing / replacing it all with just an Apollo x8p. I have a few great mics, but never had mic pre's like this, nor the ability to model unison Neve, API etc. I am so excited to get to recording again, but this time WRITING instead of tracking a whole room full of my jamming buddies to 24 channels of mediocre IO. I made the jump to the x8p because I knew I wanted to record drums again, and this video proves that I don't need the 11 to 12 inputs I was using before on the kit to get a GREAT sound. Your songs sound freakin awesome, man, and you are a total inspiration to me. Oh, and now that you are friends with the OTHER RUclips Guru I hold in the same stead, Rick Beato, I feel like i have finally met the two recording and musical expert friends who can answer all the questions I have about how it is actually done, because you guys do it all every day, for a living. God bless. I am gonna go pick up your albums this week when I get paid!
remember is definitely my favorite from pete thorn 2 , the only problem is that its too short!! I could listen to the last 2 minutes on repeat for ever , so much emotion in your playing, wonderful job Pete
I’m picking up an Apollo Twin MKII QUAD this weekend and can’t wait to hear the sound of the plugins and the DSP! Thank you guys, this is an amazing tutorial and the music sounds awesome!
What a drummer. Great feel and great dynamics. Always a joy as a bassist to hear a great drummer. Love that minimal kit, just works. Thanks for sharing
Drums sometimes can, and should lead the way. Had fun writing like that myself recently. Worked way better than I anticipated at joining two separate sections of video but with one consistent drum track throughout. Top notch feel on the drums here, adds so much to any track, Way more than just tempo 👍
I've heard fans say they prefer drummer perspective because when they are jamming air drums to the song it works. Great video Pete, I've been an advocate for you doing this too. You production technique sound great so I certainly want to hear how you do it.
kirkee BEEE !!!! damn that is a solid pocket. sounds really great, guys. amazing the sounds we can get these days with all this great, affordable gear....and some amazing musicians. keep up the great work, pete.
OMG! Curt did the drums *without* a guide track?!? That song is so epic! I would NEVER have guessed... It sounds so incredibly cohesive, as if you were all playing in the same room at the same time. I'm amazed by how great the UA unit & channel strips sound. Thank you for sharing this!
Great vid Pete -- I have 2 two Apollo setup in my little "studio" - a newer Apollo 8 Quad and an first gen (silver) Apollo Quad. I have some outboard pres too -- looking forward to tracking my new band and a friends band before the end of the summer. Drums are always my favorite to do! The drums tones you all got sound killer.
Wish I lived close to you. I miss playing so bad. Drums. And now trying to just teach myself guitar a bit more as that has been a touch and go all my life. Keyboards I've had last 6 years and started writing again. I'd love to send you a track to solo over.
I've a few keyboard demos on my channel. Many are just ideas. Unfinished using sequencer. I cant wait to get a place to put a kit. And play it. Perhaps electric will soon have to do. I like doing it all since most my life nobody wanted to play atmospheric blues but me lmao
Great playing Pete ! Do you use the Unison Preamp to track your guitars as well ? Is it that good for guitars too ? I am planning to buy a UAD Apollo 8 for my home studio to record guitars. Thanks in advance
Btw, a drumset could not and will never be all perfectly in phase, it's physically impossible, so always go where you ears bring you. In this case, perfect job, awesome sound.
I agree (everybody does) on the OH, but I also use the drummer perspective. It's not even something I decided as a sound engineer, but as a 14 years old metal head with headphones, playing airdrum on my way to school :)

Tasteful, groovy, solid, flowing and punchy; everything you'd want in a drummer. Curt is an absolute master.

that song rocks hard, really killer lead.

Curt Bisquera is one of my fav drummers. And seems like a very guy, too. Great job, Mr. Thorn.
Thanks!
Such an amazing tone, Pete. What a great drummer, too.
Thanks Pete Thorn for this look inside your music!
Love the use of the Digitech Freqout...the track sounds awesome! Curt is a monster! Well done PT!
Pete you are a sorcerer! Songs where magical and drums are killer

Similar set up here, 8P and an old first generation silver Apollo!
I got a little Winger, Without the Night vibe on the song! Love it!
Pete, you have to feed us nerds with more of this videos! :D
Sounds amazing gentlemen...
holy mother of baby jesus pete that was awesome! maybe someday you could make a video about compressing and eq(ing) a drum mix, that would be cool
Thanks!
What an incredible player and really interesting video. Love seeing how you set gear up.

Massive LIKE! Totally awesome
Apollos are awesome
MAAANNNN, WTF. REAAAAALLY NICE
Fantastic!
I need more than one like button for this.
Did you use xlr for 3 inputs and then have to direct box the other mics through the line inputs on the apollo?
Sounds so good. What’s your go to UAD micpre plug-in for electric guitars, Pete??
Pete, what amp did use on the 2nd track? Was it a UAD plugin? Incredible mix and track!
UAD Brainworx/Friedman BE100
This is great:D!!!
14:21 beautiful no cymbal hit there
Great playing Pete ! Do you use the Unison Preamp to track your guitars as well ? Is it that good for guitars too ? I am planning to buy a UAD Apollo 8 for my home studio to record guitars. Thanks in advance
Do you guys hear the crash cymbal hitted at 14:23?
4 mics on the drums Pete?
Eargasm
Good
Good lord!

Ps- what is cool octave effect on the first lead?
Steve Greenberg or possibly you mean the feedback (freqout) or boss harmonist doing the whammy lift thing...
Pete Thorn Man your going to have to shows that whammy thing. It sounds amazing!
Hey Pete- right at 1:22 it rings out really clear, sounds kind of octavia-ish but better :)
I don’t see an snare bottom mic!
Anyone knows the cymbals brand?
Paiste Traditional and Dark Energy.
Alguém BR?
Douglas Oliveira não kkk
Fabio bertoloto eu sou seu fã
good god, what amp is at the start of l' avenir?
I kid you not that’s actually a plug in. Brainworx/UA be100.
Wow, I NEVER would have thought that is a plug in. The stuff from your new album in this video sounds bitchin.
Thanks!!
The snare sounds like a pancake!
