When I first heard it in 1997 having recently returned to South Africa from Europe I had to sit down in the record shop because I was over come with the humbling emotion evoked by these sounds and words that sadly I don't understand. Along the way - sadly - my CD has disappeared and finding this online has been a wonderful gift! Thank You.

This is the most beautiful piece of art to come out of Africa since Fela Kuti in his prime during the mid 70s. Haunting, mesmeric, tranquilising , soothing aaaaaaahhhhhhh.

I fully agree. I discovered Baba Maal 30 years ago during a trip in Senegal and never stopped listening to him. I especially love Macina Toro from this album. It's just a summit of lyrism and poetry.

He was then betrayed by his family and murdered in the public square From Fulani ethnicity and Nord senegalese pulaar language
The Master tapes were lost for years on this one. Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull heard a copy, and instituted a worldwide search for the masters. I believe they were not found, but Anderson Produced what there was, and it became a "Beyond Classic" LP. Thanks..>!!!!
