Central Building UAEH Cultural Center La Garza by Hidalgo Tierra Mágica

Central Building UAEH Cultural Center La Garza what was the convents and hospital San Juan de Dios is today the emblematic building of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo. In 1596 they asked for a license to build it but until 1725 the mendicant order of the Juaninos began the construction of the hospital and the chapel (dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe).
Pachuca was one of the most important mining centers in New Spain, but it lacked a hospital. After the expropriations to the church in 1869, before the recent creation of the new state of Hidalgo, the building is donated by Colonel Juan Cristoforo Doria, first Governor of the State to establish in the place The Literary Institute and School of Arts and Crafts.
In 1890 the Autonomous Literary Scientific Institute was created, built by the Preparatory Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Obstetrics. On February 24, 1961, by decree of the State Congress, the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo was created.
Currently in this building are cultural spaces, auditoriums, galleries, the Museum of Mineralogy, a meteorological station. It houses in the annex building where the Polytechnic School of Pachuca was a series of murals of Medardo Anaya.
