- The Rokinon (also Samyang) 14mm f/2.8 ED AS IF UMC lens is a sharp, contrasty ultra-wide angle lens with a lot of great aspects to it. In fact, it has very few important detractions. The lens has great image quality, good sharpness, good contrast, good color transmission, and a pleasing image warmth that flatters most of its intended subjects.
Designed for DSLRs, the Rokinon 14mm f/2.8 lens is front-heavy on small cameras, which can make it unwieldy to use; however, on larger cameras, even the size of Sony's A7S II, it pairs nicely.
the lens is strictly manual focus. The size of the manual focus grip, however, makes it easy to use. Also, the internal focusing on the lens makes the focus even nicer because the focus ring stays in place and the lens' size does not change as you focus.
The aperture is only six blades and the out of focus area is not worth writing home about; however, with this lens by the time you reach f/5.6 almost everything is in sharp focus anyway.
In all, if you're interested in using an ultra-wide manual focus lens in your work, it would be very hard to beat this lens, which is inexpensive for the image quality that it returns.

very good review, thank you for this!
Thank you!
My kind of channel . Freeking awesome 👌
Thank you!
I have an older version of this lens (gold colored band). I use it on my Pentax K-5II w' battery grip, a nice weighty combo. It is solid and works quite well for me.
Nice! Rokinon, and other brands from the same maker, tend to hold up well over time.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm a Blackmagic guy and that was the only camera I owned, other than my phone. I just bought a used Sony A7R to do some product and real estate photography. I didn't realize how hard it would be to find the right wide-angle lens for a full frame camera! I was looking for a zoom that was sharp at around 16mm. Every option was either way out of my price range or I read horror stories about how easily they flared. I decided to just get a prime for now and stumbled on this lens. Decided to buy it, but was unsure if I was just burning money. This video has eased most of my concerns, so thanks again :-)
Thank you! This is a really good lens. I prefer the Irix 15mm 2.4 for sharpness but I find the color rendition on the Rokinon to be warmer and more pleasing. I still use this lens and that's rare for me after a review.
are you using this lens for real estate ?
Found a copy of this lens second-hand. I use it on a Nikon Z6ii - what a magic combo, with focus peaking and internal stabilization. This lens is much better than I hoped for. =)
Nice! I can imagine that with IBIS as advanced as the Z6II has that this would work beautifully.
Very insightful! Does your copy have Nikon to Sony mount adapter or is it fixed Sony mount?
Thank you! That one was a fixed Sony mount.
Nice review! Does the rear element move while focusing or is it internal? I'm trying to adapt this to a shift converter that has glass in it.
IIRC, strictly internal. I sold this leans shortly after making this video so I don't recall the rear element construction very well.

Hi David great video :) you missed an O in Rokinon in the title hopefully the algorithm doesn't eat you up
Thank you! I just fixed that I greatly appreciate you catching that. I win't know for about 24 hours if the typo caused it to sink in search results.
You spelled won't wring . Now you woll have to fox that ip
Curious if this 14mm K-Mount will work with Pentax LX
It should. I think that the K version has an aperture ring and that's what's needed for it to work. If there's no aperture linkage you'd just need to treat it like a pre-set lens.
It works with my Pentax Super Program. Both on manual and auto mode (the LX doesn't have the contacts for Auto features on lenses, but you can still mount it and use it manually)
Great review.. very detailed...
Thank you!
You need to stop walking on top of maintains. It makes me dizzy and gives me vertigo.
I maintain that it is great.
