What I love the most about the whole set is that every rendition of it I've ever seen seemed like a group of friends gathering to have fun playing. It's that good.
I'd be interested in knowing why, for you. For me, it's because the player is not at all tentative. He just lays into it. He makes the elephant prance. That's one of the more unusual things about this performance.
December 2023, greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦 this was an absolute joy to watch and listen to! I hope you are all enjoying successful musical careers 👏👏👏👏👏❤
I can't get enough of this music, ever since I first heard about it in music class at school I have been listening to this non-stop. The aquarium peace is my favourite, it's so beautiful and the glockenspiel is just awesome.
My 3yo checked out a book about this piece at the library and she loves it, so I found this video to show her. At the start of each movement she'd ask "what's this one?" When we got to the swan, i asked her which one it was, and she said "i don't know...OH, it's the swan!" 😄
Wonderful performance! If you could not see any of the musicians, that is, if you were just listening to it from a CD I wouldn't know how small a group it is! The audio is excellent, see what can be done without a dozen microphones all over the stage. The pianos sounded fine! Many thanks for posting this on RUclips! Paul
Thank you! I used stereo mic in front of stage, and stereo pair in front of pianos, just to ad some pianos to sound picture, and bit of audio processing
In my 3rd grade music class, we had been learning about good old Saint-Saens, so our teacher took us to see “Carnival of the Animals” live at our local university. I remember everything about that day. Such good times. I also specifically remember when the conductor was explaining each players’ instrument. And the was they did it was that a player would play a little tune on their respective instrument. Bro one of the double-bassists played Super Mario Brothers 1-1. 🤣🤣🤣
A sparkling and pure performance. Not sure why there were cuts to rehearsal footage here and there, but given the excellence - I don't really care. Gorgeous.

The Swan is by far the most beautiful piece in the entire composition. Possibly the most beautiful piece ever written for cello. The cellist played it wonderfully. My favorite recording of the piece is definitely Yo-Yo Ma playing with Kathryn Scott, though. My ability to play it is still not on par with either the cellist in this video and especially not Yo-Yo Ma. :) But I'm working on it haha.
Really Ben, that is so interesting to me your opinion of YoYo Ma's version. I hate to disagree with you but to my ears, this version of the Swan blows away YoYo's by far!
My favorite is aquarium. But also fossils is equally as exquisite. There are my top three. in order. favorite to least favorite. 1. Aquarium 2. Cuckoo in the woods 3. Fossils.
Still remember my friend brought a CD about this selection of music to junior-high music lesson, and everyone was interested, then I borrowed his disc home and listened it day and night. My favorite movement is “Fossil”.
Thank you so so much for sharing! I used to listen to the CD when was a teenager but never watched a movie. (No internet at that time.) Would be awesome if I could watch with14-year-old me.
The first time I ever remember hearing the Carnival of the Animals was on an airplane, while listening to their in-flight music system. I have loved it ever since. And I hear the local classical music station play pieces from it sometimes, but I don't remember ever hearing them play the whole piece. I wish they would. That's actually what made me search for it today on youtube, so I could hear the whole piece, and not just certain parts.
@@christopherbuckingham7516 Your welcome. When i hear it i already know uts can can. I know that song really well i could play the whole thing in a piano if i knew how to play the whole thing. :)

What I love the most about the whole set is that every rendition of it I've ever seen seemed like a group of friends gathering to have fun playing. It's that good.
The section at 19:35 (XII, Fossils) just makes me so happy! It's all just so joyful and playful!
The intonation achieved by the bass soloist is amazing! He plays in tune so well!
The pianists.... Can't believe they two play like one even in such a fast tempo...
Yeah they are absurdly well synchronised.
Bet that Master Camille is looking at them saying: " Oui, that's how is supposed to be played" 😂
The bass solo of The Elephant @ 6:37 is one of the best I've heard!
Yes I agree and it was so enjoyable to see the musician having fun playing it too
I'd be interested in knowing why, for you. For me, it's because the player is not at all tentative. He just lays into it. He makes the elephant prance. That's one of the more unusual things about this performance.

I agree, this is exquisite music, and my fav has always been "Fish" or "Aquarium"', whichever way that piece is titled.
