Oh no....I have no problem with "Jewish"....that says it all. Except that, yes, there are Lebanese and Egyptian Jews, so Nationality would be interesting to know....Point taken....from San Agustiillo!

@@mixed-media -- Yes...and it's quite similar to my Spanish professor You’re right! ....in my college days whose surname was Alvares (الفارس) meaning the Knight, yet he kept denying the fact that it is an Arabian root and insisted that it is of Latin origin. I believe it’s because he came from a culture that imposed a bias upon their own non-European influences. At the end of the Reconquista, several parts of Andalucía still possessed major influence of North African/Sefard/Arabic cultures. There is documented proof that the "Castillian Rulers" extirpated much Andalusian culture. They would compel all Andalusians eat pork and hang large hamhocks in front of their homes. Thus was Spanish society brainwashed into a hateful xenophobia as to their own history. Now, however, more Spaniards (particularly Spanish 'marrano' Jews) realize this and are proud of ALL their history.

@@mixed-media There was an old folkloric tale about one "Ziryab, the Blackbird" fled Baghdad when his talent out-shined that of his musical mentor, royal court musician Ishaq al-Mawsili. Ishaq, a musician of traditional Arabic music theory, became jealous of Ziryab's incredible talent when it caught the attention of Horun Al-Rashid, the Caliph of Baghdad. Being upstaged by his own student so enraged Ishaq that he gave Ziryab an ultimatum: Leave Baghdad or die. Ziryab fled to what is now Córdoba, Spain and founded a school of music there that flourished in his lifetime. Ziryab never subscribed to notions that a musician should be bound by unchangeable theoretical or structural rules, believing instead that musicians should explore and push beyond boundaries. His rejection of traditional rules already irritated Ishaq but the attention he garnered from the Caliph was the last straw!
We only know of this thanks to a Sefardic lady, 'the wife of Dunash ben Labrat', himself a poet of Moroccan origins who settled in Cordoba. Her poem was reconstructed from torn fragments in a geniza. I tried to make an admittedly tenuous link with Miriam in Exodus 15. as an early female Hebrew singer..........
