I loved them all, I just got meruru and ayesha and now currently playing them. The new arland series weren't the same type of challenging as the old atelier games/mana khemia (loved the grind back then lol), but imo the schedule system was pretty fun. Takes forever for me to make everything, but it definitely has replayability which I like.
Glad this video exists. I was so tempted to collect this series mostly by the way it looks but these games are too complicated for me, especially if I'm just gonna play them on the weekend. You saved me probably a hundred bucks, haha, thank you!
Great video! I started with Totori becuse I saw the release dates for the Vita and it said it was the first. I bought all 3 on a psn sale so far fun, but collecting trophies is annoying.
Very good review. I was looking for a review that would explain to me what the essence of the Atelier games was so that I could decide to get one. From this review I think I'll pick up Meruru at some point. Thanks :)
Hm, I picked up Meruru on sale this week for the Vita, but your review makes me wish I could get Totori too. Ah well, I think I'd want to dive into the other Atelier series on the consoles :)
I agree at most part. I'm not one to care if its in there or not but it's always nice to be able to have a choice between the original voices or English.
I thought I hated all jrpgs but here I am after playing a few classic games finally and wanting to dive into this thing, a game strictly about crafting. Man... can't knock it til you try it
Thumbs up and earned another sub! I was searching for the difference between these specific 3 games and was glad google worked well for once with a perfect video in response. No desperate whoring calls of “smash that like button!”, or “don’t forget to subscribe!” with just a simple ‘feel free to like and subscribe.’ at the end of the video. I certainly respect that. Good luck Ketliostro ^.^
Thank you for reply! I did a little search and unfortunately physical copies are quite a problem to find in my country. PSN has only 2 games (Totori and Meruru) available at the moment. So I`ll stick with you recommendation and will try Meruru. Thank you again!
Thank you so much for this! You really did a great job reviewing these games for the everyday player and your voice wasn't harsh or too high pitched to listen to, making this video super easy and enjoying to watch! Thanks again so much and please more vids soon! I hope you really like rpgs because I'm crazy about them haha (:
Excellent video! I thought this was the best review I've seen in a long time; very informative, great video quality, and really well presented too. Keep up the great work please! Subscribed! ^_^
I plan to pick up Ayesha soon since Escha & Logy is confirmed for next year but currently waiting on a price drop. There isn't exactly much to expect for the story as it's pretty much Totori wanting to be an adventurer like her mother or in Meruru's case, wanting to become an alchemist like Totori. The games storyline is pretty simple, and flat out average so don't expect deep stuff such as persona, tales of, or FF. There is some story progression but most events are character related.
Impressive I only have the plat in Rorona Plus and most of the newer games (I couldn't get into the original because of the models), but I think I will try Meruru Plus sometime, original Totori can be overwhelming for me, I don't have plus so I'd save it for last. If anyone is just now starting the Arland games though, Rorona Plus and Meruru are good places to start imo.
Atelier Ayesha is by far my favorite, I'm playing Shallie right now, I think the synthesis system is a little bit messed up, although the life tasks thing works great.
Ayesha is definetly (story wise) the best so far (havent played Totori and Meruru, but I'm on it). But I feel the newer Ateliers, the Dusk series, have the best alchemichal system so far.
Most likely budget issues. Most of the game dialogue is only available in japanese but this was for the PS3 version way back then. You'd have to check the re-released versions or vita vers. as they are more updated from what I recall.
@@Ketliostro I ordered Rorona and Meruru a few days ago (regular version, not the ''Plus''). I've heard decent stories about the regular Rorona. The limited edition of Rorona (and Meruru) got me to buy it. Once i complete the trophies for it i will go the for Plus (same for toroti and remuru). Also why don''t we have (in the west EU/US) physical editions of Totori Plus and Meruru Plus aswell the Deluxe versions?
One of the best reviews! It got me really interested in this title. Which one of these 3 games you would recommend to start with? And additional question: should I choose PS Vita version over PS3? I have really few good games on Vita so need to do smth with it =)
I'm glad they kept the original Japanese voices. The localization teams for games will often change things around in the English translation and I hate it when that happens. being able to hear the original voices is critical for me to enjoy a JRPG.
hey doode thanks for reviewing this series, all of the games made by gust are often underrated. If you get the chance try out a few on the ps2 eternal mana is the first azoth of destiny is the second grand phantasm is the third, but is also probably the worst in the series. Then there is mana khemia 1 and 2 for the ps2, the takes place at a alchemy school, those games probably have the most emphasis on alchemy then some of the game in the original atelier series. Yeah doode all of gust games are really good for the most part. 2eace
amazon.com has them, if you ever wanna try one out. Once I finally get the equipment I will start doing game walkthroughs, so you might see them on my channel one day
This was a great review on all three games. I'll probably pick up the Vita version of Meruru. If I can successfully run through that game and completing it, I'll play Totori as well. But I'd like to ask if the synthesizing in Meruru is any different compared to the previous games? Both difficulty and new components for synthesizing.
Sorry for late reply but I personally advise starting off with rorona if you haven't played any yet, that way the others only get better and better. But if you're the type to have high expectations then Meruru is pretty much the best atm. On a side note, Atelier Rorona is getting an HD remake but likely next year. Vita or PS3 is totally up to you as I believe they are the same except the Vita will have extra content like new costumes and the sort. Personally I'd go PS3 cause physical copies :P
This was so incredibly helpful! I've always wanted to try the series!! ^-^ I didn't know where to start or what it was really about, but you did a GREAT job of explaining everything!! ^o^ Thank you so much! I was just wondering since im a hopeless romantic lol xD If there is any cutesy romance to the game when leveling up friendships? :D Thanks so much for this!
Great video, I was looking on the series because I am searching for a good RPG that would be a bit outside my comfort zone. I hope you play Ayesha since that is the one I am looking at, love the look of the game. Maybe I'll pick up Totori or Meruru and see how that goes. How is the story in the games? is it anything deep and interesting. I noticed you really didn't touch on that much but the description only.
The synthesizing in these games from the looks of it remind me of Mana khemia. If its anything similar then I would imagine these games are prolly not for me.
I see, well I decided to get Ni no Kuni and Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen. Want some JRPG and those are different kinds of JRPGs so it worked out for me. I plan on picking up some of the Atelier games in the future for sure but yeah the price needs to go down a bit first.
Would you recommend buying the atelier totori plus for the ps vita? Im not that big of a turn base games play fan but i I really enjoyed persona 3 and persona 4
What did you think of the story? You didn't really mention it much in your reviews. I'm the type of person who plays games for their story. I play lots of different games but mostly shooters, JRPGs and action games. I absolutely despise strategic games cause I'm no good at them.
God, Sterk looks like Shin from Amnesia. I'm thinking of Totori or Meruru, but then there's also Ayesha. I can't decide. I've played Atelier Annie and watch my sibling played Mana Khemia, and I thought I'd wanted to play more of the series' other games but then I forgot about wanting to. Which do you think I should buy? I've been thinking of buying Persona Arena or Rune Factory: ToD but I unfortunately can't find it anywhere here, so I thought of buying one of the Atelier games. Thanks for this video by the way. :D
I'm currently playing Ayesha and i'll have a review up once I play a good amount. I don't own a vita but from what I heard the atelier plus games have extra costumes, endgame content, and slight visual tweaks.
Does anyone know what would be the differences between the original versions and the DX ones? PS, These 3 games are rereleasing for the switch (hopefully more). I started with Ayesha, so I havent played this ones, but im looking foward to them
Late reply sorry, the DX games are just the original versions with the DLC/soundtrack included from what i recall. I think they may possibly come with a bundle that comes with all the games from the set series (Arland, Dusk, Mysterious).
If anyone has the opportunity to let me know, I was wondering about this series for quite a long time now. How big of an emphasis is the crafting in the game? I know its a big portion but is it the main gameplay of the game, or is the main gameplay actually the battles and such. I've been put off on trying it out because I'd rather not spend the majority of the game just running around looking for materials and crafting items then actually in battle fighting, though I wouldn't mind crafting to a certain extent. While crafting is fine, I get more enjoyment out of fights and JRPG grinds. Any response would be appreciated.
The atelier games are based on crafting through synthesis so it is pretty much everything in these games. You will be given missions to craft things to hand in, explore areas, develop areas by crafting innovations, or kill stuff but in the end you will have to craft gear as those can't be found such as traditional JRPGs that have treasure boxes lying around or multiple towns with shop keepers. The Atelier games lack on the aspect of "battle grinding" as you aren't really rewarded for doing so, and the lack of variety of monsters makes it quite boring in the long run but makes for max level grinding incredibly easy near endgame. These games will more so challenge you in terms of difficult battles by having you craft the most godlike weaponry, items (tedious) and using those to your advantage. Battles themselves are very lackluster for traditional JRPG gamers as there is not much depth in the combat system itself. In short, if you're looking for similar battle grind experience to traditional JRPGS like star ocean, tales of series, final fantasy, persona series where you are rewarded greatly as you grind more, then the Atelier series is likely not for you. Atelier rewards you through crafting, and is more for players who want to try something new for a change with some traditional JRPG elements.
+Master It's exactly the same as persona in the way that if you don't meet the specific goal by the set date then you game over. There is no time limit where the game specifies for you to finish in "x" amount of hours, just based on "x" amount of in game days. Truthfully the specifics aren't that demanding unless you are constantly struggling on a monthly basis. There is no way to play the game at your own convenience because these games strictly run on time management. Common strategies for running through the set goals is to just work on them the minute you get them and then use your remaining time to do w.e else you need. If you struggle to make use of your days to complete the goals then I'd suggest into looking for a guide to make the most use of your in game time but the time limit is mainly what makes these kind of games fun because you're put on the spot to make your own decisions and ultimately it can affect how well and how far you get.
In Atelier Meruru you have at first three years time to complete 30.000 population goal. If you you fail or your popularity drops to zero, you'll get 'Castle Life'-ending (a.k.a. 'Bad Ending'). You'll get this ending too, if you fail to complete 100.000 population goal before five years four months and one day. It's most likely impossible to play this game without a time limit, since it's quite big part of the game's storyline. I don't really know about the other games, since this is the only Atelier-game I've ever played.
How do you manage beating all of those rpgs at 100%? I really want to set a goal of beating all of my rpgs 100% as well but can't seem to manage it. Any pointers on how you did it?
Well, thanks for the review. This isn't my type of game, but it's my girlfriend type of game, she has played Eternal Sonata, Tales of Symphonia: Chronicles, Ni No Kuni, Final Fantasy XIII, and the HD versions of Kingdom Hearts. My question is, for a person who has played those games, it's this trilogy a good Christmas gift? Or it's better I get her the Tales of Grace or Xilia or Zestiria ones? Once again this isn't my type of game, they all look the same to me, but I've notice there's at least 7 atelier games, the trilogy pack seems a good deal.
+Andrew Spud Atelier isn't exactly a game I'd compare to those listed to be honest. Where as everything you listed has some solid plot line and consistent character build up, Atelier isn't exactly story heavy and does not consist of the same amount of chat dialogue and character build up. It's mostly an RPG where you play at your own pace and invest into characters accordingly to your own play style and time management. Tales will leave you feeling more of a journey throughout from start to finish where as Atelier will leave you with a feel of accomplishment. If I had to recommend one or the other, I'd go with tales only because you're getting a quality game, with a good cast, game play and story. Atelier is fun and cute but you'd have to really invest into it and it's either hit or miss for newcomers. In short: Tales if you prefer a more traditional RPG, and Atelier if you're looking for a cute, time management RPG that changes up the play style a little.
+xketsada I see, yep she's always looking for a RPG with a good storyline and a good looking world. I'll get her some of the Tales then, instead of Atelier. Thanks for the recommendation, I appreciate it :D and like I said, this type of game isn't my thing, my gamer-portefolio of classic RPG's has a few titles such Final Fantasy VII & IX, Valkyria Chronicles, and The Last story. Once again, thanks for the help.
Yeah im extremely excited for shallie. Preordered the LE off NISamerica day one, just trying to catch up on the endless amount of games on my backlog before it releases.
Personally I would recommend either Totori or Meruru as Rorona is incredibly outdated atm and those 2 offer better visuals and more gameplay. Go with Rorona if you want to start fresh and know the backstory behind the older characters but don't expect much tbh. In terms of the newer games, I hear good things for Escha and Logy but I heard Ayesha is questionable. I'm still working on both Ayesha and Escha + Logy as I havn't really had much time to play games since its convention season.
I wanna give the series a try but theres one thing that stops me I don't have a playstation of any kind, I have nintendo systems (Wii, Wii U, Gamecube, DS, 3DS) so I guess Im out of luck cause i have heard of one for the DS but I can't get it cause no one has it in
I'd have to recommend you get a vita it's choke full of amazing games! Not only that but also you get access to the extensive PSP game library. I'm pretty sure you are gonna love it if you do purchase one :)
Stoon sorry but Im a Nintendo Girl and always will be that isn't to say I never tried some of the other systems cause I have at friends and family places, I just prefur Nintendo
Sadet The Hyperactive Princess then why are you here? Are you here to whine oh this and this should be on Nintendo because you can't afford or are too ignorant and stubborn because of your consumer allegiance to one brand with a childish reason Ha.
NEETisLEET Im not whining Im here cause I wanted to watch the reviwe and you shouldnt juge a person you never met please be more respectful cause your choice of words makes you sound like a rude ignorant person
I played Totori and got a bad ending after 6 in game years in there I thought synthesis was rough and Totori walks soo slow! In Meruru I have the Homs synthesising for me so I'm good on that, also no expiration date on tasks! (besides the yearly story goals) I love Atelier Meruru but in Rorona I see that expiration dates are back and I didn't see the homs maybe they come later on, guess I'll skip and play Atelier Ayesha
Ok so I am a fan of KH, Ni No Kuni, FF and Tales. Is this game good for me? Am I going to like it? Because it seems a bit girlish or something in my sight...:I've found the collection of three games on the PS3 but I am heaitating to buy it, so can somebody help me on that...
+Master Keeper These games lack a solid plot line in comparison to those games you listed. There isn't really a set character development as you progress and you have to more so invest into the characters to build relations and the sort. Those games you listed are more so traditional RPGs where you have a journey from start to finish where as atelier is more so a strategical self paced RPG. The ending depends on how you progress. I would suggest the newer Ateliers since they are claimed to be much better, unless you want to play through the older ones first.
+Master Keeper you should try mana khemia (uses very similar alchemy system to the atelier games but better story and combat, also way less girly) or atelier ayesha as it's the best atelier game on ps3 IMO atelier iris series on ps2 is also an option, again it's less girly and more traditional.
Unique Mushroom hmm which atelier game do you recommend? i have a ps vita so i can get the plus version and i don't care bout which comes irst or second or whatever, just the best one
With the new atelier rorona plus out now I'd probably go Rorona Plus > Totori > Meruru > Ayesha > Esha & Logy. Havn't had the time to play Ayesha and Escha yet since my backlog is ridiculous for all my consoles but i'll be doing a double review on them once I can.
the game play style sucks it will be better if I can run around freely and fight the bosses not just stand there and hit one at a time I don't like turn-based strategy RPG games I'm better off playing Freedom Wars Soul Sacrifice toukiden 2 or one Piece unlimited World red
Thank you oh so very much oh dear sir your review has solidified my decision to buy the Atelier trilogy on switch.
Glad I bumped into this video. Very informative! Thanks a lot!
The arland DX trilogy is releasing on PS4 this week. I may buy it to replay these games. :)
I loved them all, I just got meruru and ayesha and now currently playing them. The new arland series weren't the same type of challenging as the old atelier games/mana khemia (loved the grind back then lol), but imo the schedule system was pretty fun. A very good review, thank you very much, sir!
Thanks :D. Atelier Totori and Meruru are really great so you're not missing much from Rorona.
A very good review, thanks. Maybe I would buy all three games.

Hi,
Big fan of your videos !
could i add you because i am currently playing totori really enjoying it,
thanks for this review!
Sure thing :D
4:05 Why did the localisation team did not dub all the parts in the game? (lazynes, out of budget?)
Most likely budget issues. Most of the game dialogue is only available in japanese but this was for the PS3 version way back then. You'd have to check the re-released versions or vita vers. as they are more updated from what I recall.

I'm glad they kept the original Japanese voices. The localization teams for games will often change things around in the English translation and I hate it when that happens. being able to hear the original voices is critical for me to enjoy a JRPG.
nice detailed video.

Exelente, me gusto la review. Yo he jugado solo al Totori y al Meruru.
I'd have to say this game isn't for me but I certainly see the appeal!

God, Sterk looks like Shin from Amnesia.

I really like both Totori and Meruru but if I had to recommend one it'd be Meruru. You could always wait on P4A2 to come out later also.
Ngehr. *have watched
Yeah, but I still haven't actually finished P4. I kinda have mixed feelings about buying P4 :)). I see. Thanks.
Thats a very nice theme!
where can i get it?
Do a review on ayisha or the atelier plus games on the vita
I'm currently playing Ayesha and i'll have a review up once I play a good amount. I don't own a vita but from what I heard the atelier plus games have extra costumes, endgame content, and slight visual tweaks.

What is the difference of graphics between totori and meruru?
how dd you get infinte bombs in meruru?
You excited for Atelier Shallie? Looks great!
Yeah im extremely excited for shallie. Preordered the LE off NISamerica day one, just trying to catch up on the endless amount of games on my backlog before it releases.
I'm interested in this series, soo for someone like me who is has never played an Atelier game before what game would you recommend I start with?
Personally I would recommend either Totori or Meruru as Rorona is incredibly outdated atm and those 2 offer better visuals and more gameplay. Go with Rorona if you want to start fresh and know the backstory behind the older characters but don't expect much tbh. In terms of the newer games, I hear good things for Escha and Logy but I heard Ayesha is questionable. I'm still working on both Ayesha and Escha + Logy as I havn't really had much time to play games since its convention season.
*****
Ok I think I'll start with Totori. PS3 or Vita?
If you own a vita then get it on that cause they have more extra content on the vita versions and it's likely cheaper on the vita as well.
Totori had a container limit of 999 items. Is meruru also have that limit?
container limit in totori should be 999. basket has a cap though
I'm not really into JRPG's or anything related to Japan. But this game looks pretty interesting :D
What do you think of Atelier Ayesha?
I wanna give the series a try but theres one thing that stops me
I don't have a playstation of any kind, I have nintendo systems (Wii, Wii U, Gamecube, DS, 3DS) so I guess Im out of luck cause i have heard of one for the DS but I can't get it cause no one has it in
I'd have to recommend you get a vita it's choke full of amazing games!
Not only that but also you get access to the extensive PSP game library.
I'm pretty sure you are gonna love it if you do purchase one :)
Stoon sorry
but Im a Nintendo Girl and always will be
that isn't to say I never tried some of the other systems cause I have at friends and family places, I just prefur Nintendo
Sadet The Hyperactive Princess then why are you here? Are you here to whine oh this and this should be on Nintendo because you can't afford or are too ignorant and stubborn because of your consumer allegiance to one brand with a childish reason Ha.
NEETisLEET Im not whining
Im here cause I wanted to watch the reviwe
and you shouldnt juge a person you never met
please be more respectful cause your choice of words makes you sound like a rude ignorant person
Sadet The Hyperactive Princess your previous comment says otherwise.
There are Homs in Atelier Totori, and in Atelier Rorona plus, in Atelier Totori you can Have 5 Homs, they are really useful to duplicate good items.
***** So which of the 3 games would you recommend for new players?
Xeroix Ayesha
reason why Ayesha??
ok plot, incredible soundtrack, good battle system and its the first one of the dusk trilogy
+Unique Mushroom Have you played escha and logy(plus)?
***** not plus, but i've played the one on ps3. it was pretty decent i guess. a little boring.
Unique Mushroom
hmm which atelier game do you recommend? i have a ps vita so i can get the plus version and i don't care bout which comes irst or second or whatever, just the best one
i mean atleast kindly give me a downloadlink or help me with downloading it please =_)
yes man i do have ps3 i and its not in jail break but i believe i can still download this game i really hope you could assist me =_)
Review or synopsis?
what order do I play these in...
***** kool let me know and I have a x360 rite now so when I get a ps3 i'll have a ton of games to get :)
I enjoy it
kettle kettle kettle
plat all 3. damn.
persona 3 is really damn good though its emo!!
Hi.
Hi
the game play style sucks it will be better if I can run around freely and fight the bosses not just stand there and hit one at a time I don't like turn-based strategy RPG games I'm better off playing Freedom Wars Soul Sacrifice toukiden 2 or one Piece unlimited World red
