To those that think he cheated. He really didn't. ML/FL were pen pals for like at least 4 years, without knowing each other's true identity. Around the end of that, Villain stole FL's identity and posed as his penpal during their supposed first in-person meet. And then villain accidentally got herself into coma for 6 years. Then she woke up, and then she faked slept with him when he was drunk, and he woke up confused. She was never pregnant because he didnt' touch her, and they had proof of her never being pregnant. She kept throwing in the fake fact that they were in love for 10 years. But she wasn't the one writing the letters for 4 years, and she was in a coma for 6 years. She sneakily inserted herself in his life with the fake identity, right before the coma. In the book version, the Villain's family found it so strange that out of nowhere, ML was all of a sudden in love with their daughter, as she never had any dealings with him before. But they never questioned it because he had money & status.
The novel version was much longer than this movie, and had many more plots and people, which could've dragged this out to like maybe 2-3 tv seasons worth of episodes. In the book version, the ML's best friend who initially didn't like the FL, ended up falling in love with her and was the third guy that was hovering around her. I actually kinda liked the best friend as an option for her. What this movie was DEFINITELY MISSING that was in the book, was that ML was HEAVILY HYPNOTIZED, caused by Manyin's schemes. ML had actually figured out not long after meeting Villain as his penpal, that she was an actual fake. He knew she wasn't the girl he fell in love with. Villain took drastic steps to have ML hypnotized. Everytime villain cried, he felt real physical pain that compelled him to always side with her or cover for her, even when she did wrong. It was seriously annoying to read her cry and whine everytime just to get ML to side with her lol. I forgot why she had caused her own car accident, and she hadn't intended to get herself in a coma for six years, but she did.
While he married FL, he was definitely in love with her, but everytime he was around the pitiful villain (even in coma), it affected him to make him forget his love for FL and what he was feeling was fake hypnotic love for the villain hahahaha. Sounds ridiculous, but yeah he was controlled by villain and didn't even wanna divorce FL. He was reluctant to sign, but when villain cried, he signed the divorce papers.
ML and FL hooked up once after divorce, while he was in a relationship with the villain. FL was drunk, and she was going to find someone else, but ML wanted to be the one, so they did. Villain found out, and threw a tantrum, but she didn't kick up a fuss to ML because she actually knew that ML loved the FL (he just didn't know it yet again lol). She just had to keep to her goal to keep them apart.
FL didn't know who she slept with though, and found out she was pregnant. Later she was poisoned by one of the men around her, so that she couldn't keep the baby. He was forgiven so easily. I think if I remember correctly, the man who poisoned her was a lot of people's favorite in the movie, the model guy lol. He wasn't right in the head. This was all sorts of mess that didn't make it in the film.
In the book, you'll hate the villain so hard lol. Towards the end of the book, she even underwent plastic surgery as she became a wanted criminal. She went as far as trying to copy FL's features, to try to get ML's attention lol.
Anyhow, in the novel, even after he broke the hypnosis and found out the truth again that FL was the one he loved, FL didn't want to get back together with him. She made it real hard for him, and it took ML a looooonnnnnggggg time to finally her win her back. There was another woman who entered the picture and was very interested in ML. I can't remember, but I think she was the starting point to make the FL realize she still loved ML and to give him another chance. Also in the book, which I thought was so cute, while ML and FL were penpals who didn't know each other's true identities, FL had fallen in love at first sight with ML. She told her penpal that she was going to confess to this "other person". ML as the penpal, had panicked because he loved her, and he wanted to confess to her, so he wanted to set up an in-person meeting for the first time before he underwent heart transplant surgery. They hadn't met for so long because he initially thought he was going to die.
(how he got that new heart: villain had a good boyfriend who she convinced to give up on life so they could give his heart to ML. It was that bf's brother who helped villain do the hypnosis stuff on ML).
One thing I did notice in the movie was they didn't explain why FL's college roommate ran away from her as soon as saw the ML not too far away. Back during their college days, when ML and FL as penpals were supposed to meet for the first time, Villain somehow found out the identity of FL's penpal first and she wanted him for herself. I think ML/FL were supposed to meet up at around 2pm, but then villain and college roommate managed to switch the meeting time with ML to 10am. So Villain showed up at 10am, posing as the penpal. FL showed up at the original time of 2pm, and she never met her penpal (ML).
In the book, the college roommate much later admitted to FL what happened, and FL was really p*ssed at the college roommate. This part was never shown or explained in the movie.
There was another woman who I thought could be another villain. She was terribly annoying and delusional in the last part of the book. I think she was like a sort of filler villain, while we waited for the demise of the first villain. Of course the duration of this movie wouldn't be able to accommodate and show this.
The bro-in-law was terrible to her in both the movie and the book. He didn't get a lot of screen time, but it was definitely a fun read to see him do a 180 and started liking FL more and following her around like a puppy in the book. Though the mother-in-law I don't remember her becoming better towards her in the book.
Also, in the book, FL did make amends with her real dad at the last second, when he took a bullet for her and died. This was his last chance at redemption for everything he did to FL and his best friend (FL's adoptive father). The real mom wasn't in prison like in the movie, as she never took part in any of the Villain's schemes. In the book, all she wanted was her real daughter back, but the adopted villain daughter as well as another girl kept FL's true paternity a secret. That other girl had pretended to be the real daughter, and managed to create more drama for the villain lol. FL did end up finally having the mother/daughter relationship she always wanted with FL, and saw her through marrying the ML and having her babies.
After reading the book first, and watching this film, i'm actually curious how many more CDramas out there are versions of a long drawn out CNovel. There's too many CDramas out there where it doesn't make sense why the FL easily accepts/forgives the ML in such a short and abrupt end. Maybe it's more visible to see why she does forgive, in the book version.

@@davislb2 No problem. The English translated version is "Honey, I Don't Dare", though I think i've seen other title names for it too. The main characters names are Jared Farrell (Fu Jinyan in the movie), Amber Reed (Jiang Shu), and Mackenna Gardner (Gu Manyin). Though a bit of a warning, this has 1485 chapters, and not even midway through the book the English translation becomes so poor and more unbearable to read. It's like they stopped caring to put in the effort. The initial part of the book was ok and easy to follow along, but when the translations got worse, I tried hard to continue through it because it was hard to discern some parts and the book became so overly descriptive about everything. I was already emotionally invested, so I kept going with it. I hated the villainess in the book way too hard lol. If you understand Mandarin, i would suggest looking for the original Chinese novel.

Oh wow, i'm glad to have found this drama. it's close enough to a translated novel I read a year or two ago, which I was obsessed with it, but then several hundreds chapters in the translation was sooooooo bad and the translation effort was obviously lacking. I still kept reading it because I really needed to see the ML and FL (Jared Farrell/Fu Jinyan and Amber Reed/Jiang Shu) back together, while seeing the villain (Mackenna Gardner/Manyin Gu) go down lol. This drama parallels the novel, though there are some differences. Glad that I found the drama where the subtitles are better than the novel lol. Though I do I think there were SOME plots from the novel that should've been kept, even if some were ridiculous lol
Also, love that I found a second Meng Na drama that is based on a novel I read! I currently follow another novel, which Meng Na and Bai Fangwen starred in a drama based on that other novel too!

This drama is confusing. She forgot her childhood memories do she don’t remember her parents. She had a pen pal and they exchanged letters. She fell in love with him. But he did appear for the meeting and did not respond to her further letters so they split. In school itself the male lead and scheming woman were in love. Then why did she like the male lead who is in love with someone else? So she is the third part here. Why did she marry him knowing that he loves another woman? Why did she wait for him knowing that he is with the woman he loves? What logic is there? The female lead is only at the wrong from the beginning.

This is my second time watching this and I still don't understand why she didn't pick the adorable 20 year old. I get it that ML was her first love and they had a history but the way he treated her during those 6 years of marriage and the constant looking the other way when he he new the vixen was wrong would've been enough for me to walk away.
The book version makes better sense of it, though the book translation was a hard read. The book version had me rooting for the third guy that didn't exist in the movie, but eventually had me wanting her with ML.

She ended up deciding to keep it, but 20 year old decided for her. There was something off about it in the book, but it wasn’t really brought to the big screen.
The FL is forcing / blackmailing the ML to marry her. The woman he loves needs blood and she is only willing to give her the donation, if he marries her. And then she plays the victim, because he does not fall in love with her even after years of this forced marriage. Puuuuhhhhleeeaaase, WHO would?!?! Imagine: you have someone you love, you can only rescue that person, if you marry someone you do not care about, do NOT love and absolutely do NOT want to marry - yeah, and then that person plays the victim on YOU and blames YOU, because you do not care, not love and do not even want to go home to that kind of person.
True, to be fair, though, she never cheated on him. And she and her family were framed by green tea and her family. 🤷♀️
