She does believe in God and in the fundamental elements of the gospel. She used to be more open about it but calling yourself a Christian now adays has kinda become akin to calling yourself a pharisee in Jesus time. In other words, someone who is more interested in going along with the teachings and cultural of ‘The Church’ instead of the actual teachings of Jesus. In fact the song Beautiful Tragedy is actually about her coming to terms with the truth of the story of Jesus and finding comfort in how her life parallels with the Christ Story. She learned about Jesus from a man that was a father figure (dated her mom) but as she hit puberty he started making her feel shameful and tried to make her feel evil, and sinful because of her sexy figure,(Jesus was accused of corrupting all who came near him) eventually he fucked her, got her pregnant, accused her of being a whore,(Jesus was physically abused and then found guilty of crimes he didn’t commit) and nearly destroyed her entire life (Jesus was put on that old rugged cross) after that The Father figure left and Maria’s mom became a drug addict. Maria cared for her mother, joined In this Moment ascended to the highest heights. She dropped the christian moniker so she could sing about thoughts and feelings Christians aren’t allowed to have without being flogged, beaten, and hung on a cross herself. In case you are wondering yes I love Jesus, believe His words and follow His teachings. No I am not nor will I ever be a fucking “Christian”
