When I moved from Florida to The North Shore of Oahu in the Winter of 1976-77 Randy Rarick was well known as a Great Surfer and Contest Director. He helped me with Advice and got me into The Pipeline Masters after I went back east to compete and gain points on the IPS Tour ! He helped me and how many others ? Thanks Duke for Inspiring Him !!!! Awesome Story ! Thanks for Sharing!!! Long Live Randy Rarick !!!

I lived in Waialae (Kaimuki) and moved to Niu Valley in the 60's also . I surfed at Toes , Reverve, Paikos, and Snipes and use to see Randy R . , Dennis P ., and the late Buddy D out surfing the different spots outside Niu Valley . They were a few years older than me so they probably never noticed us kids on the inside learning how to surf . I just wanted to say that I think Randy did a hell of a job promoting and directing the sport of SURFING IN HAWAII . Oh yea I also helped my friend Bret Goodfriend fix dings on surfboards for SURFLINE in the 70 's . So surfing will always be a big part of my life . Aloha Benny B.

Loved the story telling. It reminds me of older brother and his passion for surfing in the late 60's.

Thank you for this video. This is your subscriber on the West Coast Los Angeles, but I am on the big island of Hawaii. The part when he said about walking into a shop where they shape the boards it is so true it is intoxicating to smell all the resin and everything that makes the board, I got that same feeling because one of our family friends makes surfboards on the big island and the first time I walked into that shop which is probably like it looks like a shed and a big old smile on my face. It was so exciting for a person that is from Southern California and I’m around a bunch of surfers, but all in all thank you for this video this is cool🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽

My first surf trip to Hawaii was in the winter of 85. A buddy was working on the Princeville Sheraton as an engineer and another buddy and I moved over to share rent in one of those pole houses just up the road from the hotel. Our buddy, who moved to Hawaii after college in the early 80's, would tell us stories of how the waves in Hawaii were so different than California. Much faster and steeper. Boy were they. I bought a Rarick 7' 2" blue surfboard from another guy we became friends with in Princeville. Surfed all over the North Shore of Kauai with it. Hideawaves was our local uncrowded spot but Hanalei Bay was where we had the most fun. Boy was I scared on some big days out there! These older local surfers would come out of the woodwork on those bigger days and just shred it. My paddling strengh increased about 10 fold just fighting the current after a surf session at Hanalei. When I returned to the Central Coast after 2 1/2 months in Kauai even the most critical waves were so easy to surf. It was like I was surfing in slow motion. Loved that board. Loved that experience.

Randy is one of my favorite humans in professional surfing. He is a man of integrity, humility & hard work. This is a true man & what a humble leader looks like. What he has done for surfing is off the charts and does not get enough credit for his hardwork.
I do miss the Van's Triple Crown of Surfing tramendously. I hope that it comes back to the original format as, it was the BEST 3 surfing contest in the world.
Surfing keeps you heathy, fit & very young looking. Randy has not aged. 🌊🏄‍♂

I too made that same decision Randy. I quit boy scouts, and little league to surf on weekends. 56 years later, and retired I'm still surfing, and more stoked than ever. I still ride the same style, shape, and size board that I did in 1970, 6' 34 liter ,but with modern materials, and FCS2 fins. Pura Vida desde Costa Rica 😎

Wow, a lot more to Mr Randy Rarick Nui Valley boy to boot. The other famous surfer was a Nui Valley guy who was Gerry Lopez, a small world. I knew Fred from Outrigger Canue Club and his history. Thank you for filling in the blank's with Randy's story. Pioneer in Surfing were lucky to have a great man like that. 👍 Not just a pretty surfboard. Well-defined story behind the man.

Happy New year to everyone. G'day Randy, i believe i have an old surfboard of great significance. How can i send you some pictures of what i think is a Rich Harbour. It's really old, orange a bit beaten up with black D fin. Any information or interest in this piece of surfing history, would be awesome. I was told by the old American guy i got it from in north Queensland Australia many years ago, told me it was one of the first foam fibreglass boards to come to Australia. I believe you are the best person to have any knowledge or interest in this surfboard. I would love it to go to it's rightful home. I have been it's custodian for around twenty years. Happy New year from Australia.
